1.- Yara, you were born in Palestine, What do you like about your hometown in Palestine?

I love the wonderful and unique cities, churches, mosques, traditions, nature, weather and delicious special food we have in my beautiful country. Additionally, I admire the strong mindsets that the people in my country have and their desire to always make a progress and leave a special mark in a lot of fields such as agriculture.

I am also proud of the special designs that we have that are called “Thobe” which is made out of “Tatreez”. These designs symbolize our culture and other than the fact that they are so uniquely beautiful, they are also made out of sustainable fashion that won’t negatively impact the environment. This was the essence of my national costume in Miss Earth.

2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or gives you a lot of joy?

As model and a lawyer I have a very busy life, however, there are a lot of hobbies and other things that I do. I am a dancer since the age of 4, I started dancing ballet and then added modern, jazz, bachata, salsa, contemporary, afrobeat and eventually decided to get a college degree in dancing so I became a hiphop and dancehall teacher. Dancing is something sacred to me, it brings me massive joy and it gives me the feeling of freedom.

Moreover, I’m a writer who writes books and poems. Some are inspired by my personal experiences and most of them are about feminism. My goal is to influence girls and let them know that they deserve to fulfill their rights. Also, my writings include convincing and touching methods that target sexist and conventional people in order to make a positive impact. I will start publishing them when I feel like it’s the right time.

I would like to mention that I actually don’t like to consider these things as hobbies because I believe in the quote “all in or nothing” so mostly the things that I do are things that I consider professional or official in my life. In this way I make sure I either do something and “conquer” the field or don’t enter it at all.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about happiness is my work as a model and beauty queen. It brings me happiness because it’s my dream job and it suits my character so much as I am a person who can’t live a normal life with a regular routine and because I admire and adore the modeling industry. In addition, my family gatherings bring me happiness, in spite of the fact that most of them are actually foreigners and live abroad. This made me appreciate every happy moment I have with my family.

3.- International Model, Miss Earth Palestine 2023-2024. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and a beauty queen? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?

I have loved taking pictures since my teenage years and when I started posting them on social media people noticed a new striking and distinguished type of poses and movements in my pictures and videos in addition to my unique catwalk. This made me realize what I have within me and what I am able to do if I become a model. Fashion shops, designers and makeup artists began to contact me to model for them and that’s how it all started. Along the way I and other people discovered a lot of qualities in my personality and appearance that made me outstand in the modeling industry. Thus, I announced my decision to become international and that I won’t accept any achievements that are less than what I deserve. Here I am now achieving them at a young age.

When I became a model I didn’t think I was going to become a beauty queen also. However, with time I have come to learn that it is a connected field and a one that I am really interested in. I had a lot of beauty pageants’ opportunities but I chose to start with one of the biggest beauty titles and pageants ever which is Miss Earth.

It is indeed a magical and wonderful feeling to achieve your dreams and passions especially when you know you deserve it after the hard work you have done. Every time I achieve a goal I set a higher one to myself.

Being a recognized woman influencer is really significant to me because that’s how I know that I am definitely leaving a positive mark in society. I am sincerely grateful for having the platform and the opportunity to influence the ladies and men in order to motivate, strengthen and further educate them in my fields such as modeling, law and feminism.

4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Yara in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?

I tend to see myself as someone who was born with something special within me. I don’t know if it’s a result of the things I’ve been through or something I was born with. I say it with humility but I know for sure I was born different and I’m someone that leaves a gigantic mark wherever I go.

The unique stamp I leave and hope to keep leaving can be the effect of the good heart combined with the strong character. My stamp comes from the epic feeling and motivation I get every time I dare to dream big and perfectly achieve. I think I have a lot of unique features but I believe that this one is what makes people tell me I always stand out wherever I go and reach every small or big goal I set to myself in a short period of time.

5.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?

There are a lot of virtues and qualities that one has to have in order to become a successful international model. For example, good look, thin legs, pretty face, strong character, fitness etc. However, as I see it, there is a another different and special virtue or characteristic that you must have if you want to be a model, which is to be ready to sacrifice a lot and work hard in a way that makes life almost all abut you career in order to achieve mass successes in this industry.

6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

I am indeed aware of that. I receive a lot of messages from so many girls and gorgeous ladies and I always try to help them enter the field or get better at it in the best way I can. I sometimes post my fashion poses, makeup poses and catwalks for inspirations.

Of course it means a lot to me to be considered as an inspiration and a role model to so many girls from my country and the world. That is part of the dream, also because me influencing them can show them the hardships of the industry so they can take the right decision whether to enter this field and how to deal with it.

7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

There’s something about me that I have never shared before which is that whenever I achieve a big dream I don’t get overwhelmed or stressed because everything that I achieve is planned in my head and I know how to deal with it. This is mainly because I strongly believe in myself and I believe that literally everything is possible.

The first time I professionally modeled was for a fashion boutique and it felt so magical. I was already used to the flashes of the camera and the posing in front of it because I loved taking pictures and liked to keep up with the modeling industry’s news and work.

The first beauty pageant of mine is Miss Earth which is one of the 4 biggest beauty pageants in the whole world and that is considered rare because people often have some medium level local and international pageants until they get chosen to represent their country in such a huge pageant. It was an honor to represent my people and the feeling of accomplishment accompanied me everyday through my journey in Miss Earth.

Honestly, when I landed in Vietnam and started my journey in miss earth it was the first time that I got a feeling of not being able to “absorb” the fact that I am actually there. I took me about a month or two to realize that I did it. This is what happens when you dream so big and accomplish it. It was a gigantic dream of mine that I have worked so hard for by myself so I know I deserved this outcome and huge results that I got. I felt so glad to be able to make my country so proud of me, it is the best feeling.

8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?

In my opinion the social media’s power today is the biggest power of all. I am glad that my job is related to the social media platforms in many ways because it means I can positively influence people in the best ways and tools possible.

However, the cons of the social media almost outweighs the pros of it. A lot of people who are followed by a large number of followers might sometimes influence young people badly, take advantage of their power or fake their accounts in order to trick people. Another harmful side of social media is the effect that it has especially on young women who according to statistics are getting more depressed and more plastic surgeries due to the fake lives and fake filters we see nowadays. This is one of the reasons why I always highlight the besuty of our natural selves on my instagram story.

9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?

I like to post professional pictures and videos of me from my work because it is an official account, but also I stay in touch with my followers since I consider them asd my second family that supports and believes in me.

I am an influencer with a purpose. This purpose is mainly related to feminism and changing the old conventional rules into new ones that improve the women’s status and lives in my society. I also entertain them and more importantly give them a lot of professional tips from my diverse fields, like dancing, learning and modeling.

My favorite social media is Instagram (yara4bishi) because that’s where I get the most professional jobs and you can advertise yourself in marvelous ways. My followers especially there know me well and keep up with my life in the best way possible.

10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

We only have one life to live, if you don’t dare now to live your dreams then when? It’s your life and you deserve to live it the way you like so if you want to stay in your comfort zone and never fight for your dream life you are going to regret it for the rest of your life. The worst that can happen is sitting home not working hard to improve the talent that God granted you and never know what could have been if you fought for your dreams.

I advise parents to always support their children’s talents, however I understand that there are a lot of differences between the parents and their kids which makes it harder for the parents to always support and encourage their beloved children in every dream or goal they set to themselves. What I advise in such cases is that the parents shall give space to their children and let them explore their own targets and dreams because the most cruel and unfair thing ever to do to someone is to ban them from reaching their dreams. The children who explore their dreams and life will come out independent, strong and aware of what they want in life. As a result, they build the life they want and deserve.

Unlike what a lot of people think, the children are not a property of the parents. The parents’ job is to keep them safe and that’s what they should do while observing them but letting them explore and achieve their own dreams.

11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?

Professionally, being a model and a beauty queen have taught me a lot about the business side of the world and the industry. I have learned a lot of techniques and information about business and advertising to the point where I can easily open up a firm of my own. As a model and beauty queen I have strengthened my character even more and got to know so many well known professional people from the industry with new cultures and languages that taught me a lot.

Personally, I have learned that in order to get something you have to work hard for it alone and be ready to sacrifice whatever for your career. I have also learned that nothing is impossible and no matter what you are told, in the end what matters is the idea that you have of yourself and how strong you believe in yourself. In addition, I have sadly learned that people will always try to take advantage of you and if you are not strong, persistent, self-loving enough you won’t be able to succeed in the modeling and the beauty queens’ life.

In addition, I learned how to work under pressure, how to wear high heels for many long hours, how to stay openminded in the industry yet not let anyone take advantage of my abilities, how to keep up with the rapidly changing and growing industry of fashion and modeling.

12.- Yara, has being a model been easy for you? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome the obstacles?

Being a model is never easy. It is a broad field, full of challenges and it’s not possible to excel in it unless you own or work on a strong personality, sacrifices, open mindset, passion, strong motives and knowing how to form connections.

I will start by saying that nothing in life comes easy to me but maybe that’s God’s way of making me special and a girl with purpose. I know it’s unfortunate, however, working hard and always facing hardships made me the way I am and taught me how to maintain and keep the goals I achieve because I know how hard I worked to reach them. Thus, when I get a good modeling contract I know how to work it and deal with every situation that can happen during a photoshoot and in general.

Since I started modeling and till this very day I have dealt with a lot of obstacles that my society has put in my way. Some are due to the conventional and outdated rules and traditions we have, especially for women and some are because of the people who unsuccessfully try to ruin things for me. I believe that overcoming this obstacle is done slowly for instance when I made history of competing in the bikini round in Miss Earth and speaking English fluently to talk about us, I got a massive positive reaction from my people because they noticed the gigantic positive change and effect I have made in the world’s perspective of them.

13.- You are a dancer!!! Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?

I am a dancer and a dancing teacher with a degree of hiphop, afrobeat, dancehall and others which made me appreciate and love art even more. Being an actor is also a dream of mine and it’s already happening. For now I can only state that there are big projects and films that I star in which are coming soon. My dreams in this field too are getting bigger and bigger especially when directors notice my acting advantages in the way I look and in my personality. I have even been told that my life experiences, especially the bad ones, have helped me become a good actor that knows how to express and show emotions in a right way.

14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

I believe that the role of woman in all societies is gigantic and it shall be more appreciated and less taken for granted. Sadly, a lot of women in a lot of societies are still being treated poorly and abusively. Women’s role and position has indeed positively evolved in the last period of time. We see woman taking over all kinds of jobs and still taking care of their children and giving them the love and affection they need at home. That is what woman do, we can conquer all fields at the same time. As a result of that and the feminist wave we are experiencing in the world, I believe that the women’s role in all societies will become bigger and more appreciated.

15.- Yara, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

I am always motivated by my work which is modeling and my big meaningful message about gender equality and peace. Moreover, I’m deeply motivated because of the hardships I have been through and the obstacles I faced to reach the success I am in today. I feel grateful to always be unique and manage to outstand in every step I take especially in my field, but more grateful for being able to keep a good heart no matter what happened or happens in life.

16.- Yara, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit in Palestine?

I like to travel, however, I don’t prefer traveling only for vacation because I am focused on my work as a model and beauty titles’ holder and this means a lot of traveling for the purpose of work and business. I have traveled to a lot of countries such as; Germany, America, UAE, Vietnam, Jordan, Switzerland, Egypt, Thailand, Austria, Romania, Hungary and others. There are a lot of countries that I am going to travel to soon for the sake of work.

There are a lot of magically beautiful places in Palestine. I have done a lot videos for Miss Earth showing and explaining about these places. Such as, the old city of Nazareth, the Bahaiin in Haifa, Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, etc.

18.- Yara, your last words or final tips

Lastly , I would love to encourage anyone that is reading this right now to keep fighting for their dreams because no matter how many times we fall we will always be able to come back even stronger. If it’s not okay then it’s not the end, never give up.

Furthermore, I would like to encourage people to go back to admiring and appreciating good hearts even more than good looks if that is possible. I sincerely see people more beautiful when they are pretty on the inside. Saying, I believe that the character of one’s self reflects on the way he or she looks. Thus, a pretty gorgeous person with a bad heart is someone that is almost impossible for me to find pretty because the inside beauty or ugliness reflects on the outside.
