She has traveled many countries and has a great love for different cultures and people. Her intelligence makes her obvious beauty shine even more.
It is an honor to present from Croatia Katica Rakuljic, 1ru Miss Universe Croatia, Miss Gothenburg Sweden and second place as World Supermodel representing Sweden . A queen of indisputable beauty, sweet, human, with solid values and exceptional.
Here is her interview:
1.- Katica , you were born in Split, Croatia ,What do you like about your hometown in Croatia? What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?
Oh l have always had much love for my country and there is so much to love ! The obvious things like Croatia’s Adriatic sea that is one of the clearest and cleanest stretches of water in the world. The food is amazing , the warmth of the people and the culture , and the beauty of Split itself.
Most of all ,which goes for all of Croatia ,is the amazing spirit of the people when it comes to supporting their country in different events expecially sports which is something l love to see. That brings me to your next question, lm a big fan of Croatian football and l love to support it , lam a serious nationalists there haha Things l love doing is definitely travel and experience new parts and new cultures on our planet. I’m also a animal lover and expecially a horse lover. My family brings me much joy. Also giving back , helping and inspiring others . Just life itself brings me a lot of joy and happiness. !
2.- You grew up in Sweden ,What do you feel for Sweden, its people and its culture?
Sweden is a amazing country in many ways . It has for decades been one of the best welfare states in the world and for good reasons lwould say .
We have topped the gender equality index both in the EU index and in Swedish gouverment where men and women are highly represented making it the most gender equal systems in the world. There is also a minimum pay gap between men and women ,another great factor even if Sweden has not reached all the way there yet. The education is aswell a major focus when it comes to equality which l find very important.
When it comes to the culture l think Swedes can be seen as a bit stiff nation when it comes to many things and not the warmest people so to speak.
I think there are definitely things they need to work on there. I’m grateful for Sweden and l do like the people and the mindset but you can’t like everything 100% ofcourse. Myself l don’t identify fully with the culture l feel more international since l lived abroad in many countries from a very early age and got different prespectives that enriched me.
I also in fact love the English language so much that In high school l changed to a English school instead of going to a Swedish.
3.- International Model , Beauty Queen, 1ru Miss Universe Croatia, Miss Gothenburg Sweden, , When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
Oh well l actually went to a model casting when l was about 15 that my mom took me to and they choose To sign with me. I was so exited at the time and over the moon about it . Howewer l was to young to move abroad and had school so l had to wait a few years to really pursue that dream of becoming a international model.
As to being a beauty queen , it started one summer when l was enjoying my time in Croatia with my sister and a lady approached me at the beach . She told me l should come to the casting for Miss Dalmacija/ Miss Split. I was leaving to Sweden just two weeks later but decided to go to the casting the next day.
After that they chose me as a finalist for Miss Universe and later the next year l was crowned as the first runner up. Shortly after the TV broadcast l was approached by international agents and signed my first contract with my agent from Canada, and from there the international travels took off. After that my competitive nature got really strong and l got the honor to represent Croatia at top model of the world , won Miss Gothenburg Sweden and took Sweden to a second place at Supermodel of the world.
All these things are an amazing feeling once you get to experience it all. I feel thankful for all the things lm getting to do and all the adventures and places it has taken me on. Most of all how it made me grow to the person lam today.
There is much more to do and accomplish and l think it’s important to challenge yourself and set new goals. But never forget we should stop once in a while and appreciate how far we came. I think that is definitely something l can improve on !
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Katica in each activity carried out as a person and model?
Hmm that is a really good question. I think it is love if l put it simply. I like to do all things with joy and passion , with love. l think that with that comes the feeling of giving back wich is important for me. It’s Love for the job ahead of me , for the people putting in their time and for believing and trusting in me. I want to leave a trail of kindness and warmth whether l go. Because why not ?
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
Passion for what they do even when times get hard , when you have to go to castings all day , even when you miss home , when you get a no or any criticism because that’s the reality of modeling. So a lot of passion and drive aswell as a intention to do good.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
Well to be a inspiration to anyone is really a honor. It’s never been something l thought of when l was younger but l realize now that girls , young women and people need that. I’m just being myself and doing what l feel is right.
I belive in hard work and l belive strongly in sticking to your values. That’s how l was brought up. For me to be a idol or influence is something lm very thankful for. I don’t really realize it until it comes up .
l’m here and l think we are all here to do good. Therefore l want to continue to pursue my goals and by doing so inspire others whoever they may be . Show them that anything is possible. It’s all in your mind and it is in fact very important to me if someone decides to go on and do whatever they want to do because they got inspired by something l did or said.
When you get a message from someone saying l inspired them to do something. That feels amazing. I love to give back and such things makes me very happy. It’s all about inspire people.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
I was very nervous! I didn’t move too much because l was insecure on what to do or what not to do. I think l totally faked my confidence But the pics turned out great that’s the point haha. First time at a beauty pageant was nervous aswell , very nervous having to answer live questions in front of millions of tv viewers .
l remember feeling like the moments were unreal and l felt panic Inside haha .But with time you become very used to the camera and you begin to love it!
8- What do you think about the power of social networks today ?
I think it’s a very good thing if you use it correctly . You have to decide what social media you consume and be aware of it. Consume positivity is my advice. On another note social networks has opened many opportunities for both business and people , it’s just a matter of how you choose to use it .
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social networks? Whats your favorite social network?
Hmm l would have to say l use Instagram the most !
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I would tell them to ask themself the question of why they feel the fear and be honest about it. Usually it’s one of two reasons , fear of failure or fear of the opinion of others , both of that are complete made up fears in your head.
What others think is non of your business and by failing you learn , you should want and be willing to fail to reach whatewer goal, failure is needed to make you the best. Once you realize that you just take one step in front of the other and keep going, stay focused on your goal. I would advice parents to try and really be open minded and try to realize what their behavior will result in down the road.
They should try to support whatewer dreams even if it’s not what they want for them, because the most important thing is their kids happiness and well being.
They need to understand that their own lack of support comes from other people’s opinions of how life should be and that is a scary mindset that if you as a parent have it you need to question yourself. Realize that if you are not your child’s biggest supporter who will be ?
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
I have learned to have a lot of patience , be consistent and always be profession and show up with a smile on your face no matter how you feel or whatewer you go through. Modeling and expecially pageantry is hard work.
You may had a press day the whole day , a very late dinner and had to be up at 5 in the morning just to do it all again in high heels looking amazing the whole day and night. It can be very exhausting but this is what is expected if you want to get on top . Or in modeling it could be leaving a shoot to running on castings all day expecting to come fresh and full of energy. l learned to do it all with energy and a smile on my face and never ever complain.
It taught me much patience and discipline. Another thing l learned is to always have confidence in yourself and know your the best. I’m used to getting a lot of criticism from model agents, customers etc and you need to be really mentally strong for it not to get to you if it’s negative. Always remember another Persons opinion of you is just that , their opinion. Everyone has the right to one but that dosent mean it’s true. Only your own opinion matters and whether you think you can do something or not , you are right.
12.- Katica, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles?How did you overcome obstacles?
It’s been both a mental and physical challenge for me many times so it’s not always been easy. It’s much pressure to keep your measures right at all time to have great hair , skin , nails. You are constantly judged and closely watched on good and bad terms.
The biggest challenge for me has been to overcome the negative criticism and it’s a very hard thing to do when you are young. I have seen many models break down from it and l thought that is horribale. I learned to be very confident in my own skin as l mentioned previously and really to realize that everyone has a opinion but my opinion is the only one that matters.
You got to know you are the shit so to say , without validation from no one. I also learned never to put people on a pedestal , a model agent or a customer that don’t like something about your looks can be intimidating for a young person. Just realize its just a person with a opinion.
That’s all really , and it’s their opinion. Focus on the people that give all the positives l would say , agents , bookers , clients etc.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
Yes ! I love acting and it’s definitely something l would get More into. I did a lot of commercials in different country’s and l loved to become a character and live that out fully. It’s definetky something l want to do more of .
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I definitely think that women have got a more equal role in today’s society and expecially as l mentioned before it’s definetly something that is true for Sweden that is a forth runner of gender equality. I wish that all country’s in the world could be like Sweden when it comes to this expecially.
Women are getting more recognition in sports , in work and in entertainment so l belive we are on the right path but we still have a long way to go. With that said many countries indeed have fallen behind and it’s sad to see that some women are still under the control of the gouverment in the country’s they live in. We all as a people need to do something to help , educate and change these society’s. It’s hard but l do belive it therefore requires hard action. I experienced diffrent treatments of me as a women depending on what country l have been in and growing up in Sweden you can sense the difference and it’s very sad.
15.- Katica, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation every day is to be better then l was yesterday , it’s always me against me. To inspire to motivate and to make myself proud is a drive. Iam grateful for many things every day , for family for love , for something as simple as the fresh air in my lungs really . That’s a privilege and lam thankful for it and all the amazing opportunities we are represented with each day really.
16.- Katica Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from Croatia and Sweden ?
I absolutely LOVE to travel ! To discover new places new cultures new food and go on andvetures aswell as learn about history witch l love is what l like the most about traveling. To loose myself in a place and time. I have been to many parts of the world and worked and lived in country’s such as china, Mexico , Dubai , USA etc.
I love tropical places and the most beautiful place l been to so far is definetly Mexico Cancun. I would love to visit Bali , Hawaii , the Maldives aswell as places in Europe. I love castles and there are some amazing ones l want to visit in Europe.
If you go to Croatia ofcourse you saw this one coming haha – Split! My beautiful home town is a must to visit or any of the towns by the Croatian coast aswell as many of the beautiful islands such as Brac or Hvar. In Sweden l would recommend my home town Gothenburg as it’s very cosy aswell as Stockholm has a lot to see and experience like taking a stroll in the pretty old town of stockholm.
