1.- Virnalis, tell me about the city where you were born and raised.,What do you like about your hometown?
I was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, and raised in Salinas, PR, in a beautiful neighborhood called Parcelas Vázquez. My childhood memories are filled with playing around the neighborhood with other children, surrounded by nature in this rural area, close to animals and stunning landscapes. I’ve lived my entire life in this resilient neighborhood where the sense of community runs deep. Whether in times of need or celebration, the people here stand together, teaching me the true essence of community through their actions. What I love most about my hometown is undoubtedly its people. Additionally, being a coastal city, I can’t overlook the breathtaking sunsets by the Caribbean Sea and the delectable local cuisine. I’m immensely proud of my roots.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I have a deep passion for fitness, which has been a consistent part of my life for years. A day without some form of physical activity feels incomplete to me. I also cherish spending quality time with my family and friends, sharing experiences, meals, music, and laughter. Personally, one of my greatest joys is witnessing the mesmerizing sunsets along the coast of my island, particularly in my hometown. Whenever possible, I also indulge in the tranquility of watching the sunrise. It’s a serene moment for self-reflection, gratitude, and appreciation of the natural beauty that surrounds us.
3.-International Model, Virreina Miss Mesoamerica International 2024. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
My journey in modeling began during my teenage years, around the age of 14. In Puerto Rico, beauty pageants hold a special place in our culture, something I grew up admiring. Witnessing the impact these events had on the lives of women I knew, even before they became queens, left a lasting impression on me. Despite initial insecurities, I summoned the courage to pursue this path, and I’m grateful that I did. Through the highs and lows, I’ve evolved both as a woman and a professional. Today, I can’t imagine my life without these experiences.
Achieving something you’ve worked tirelessly for brings an unparalleled sense of relief and satisfaction. I’ve had dreams of becoming both a doctor and a beauty queen, and through perseverance, I’ve realized both aspirations. Being recognized as an influencer woman carries a profound responsibility, one that I take seriously. My aim is to inspire and uplift others through my actions, both as a model and a professional. What I cherish most about my roles is the opportunity to connect with people. Their support and encouragement drive me to excel in my endeavors. Ultimately, it’s their unwavering support that fuels my passion to serve and inspire.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Virnalis in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I believe my distinctive mark in every endeavor lies in my unwavering discipline and authenticity. I approach each task with a commitment to excellence, striving to do things “right.” Infusing positivity and genuine energy into everything I do is essential to me. I firmly believe that acting with kindness and focusing on positivity yields positive outcomes in life. Regardless of the outcome, each experience is a valuable learning opportunity.
5.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?
The primary virtue that any woman must possess to excel as an international model, beyond mere beauty, responsibility, and respect, is discipline. In the demanding world of modeling, there’s often a significant workload and tight schedules to manage. Discipline enables one to navigate through challenges and fulfill responsibilities effectively, even amidst adversity.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
Yes, I’m aware of the influence I hold over aspiring models, and it’s truly an honor. Recently, I received messages from numerous girls as a result of my experience in El Salvador expressing how my journey has inspired them. This feedback fills me with joy and reinforces my desire to positively impact lives. However, it also underscores the weight of responsibility that accompanies this influence. It’s essential for me to continue serving as a role model, encouraging authenticity, determination, and passion in aspiring young individuals. My aim is to lead by example, selflessly serving others and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to inspire.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
Like any “first time” experience, I felt nervous on both occasions. Over time, with preparation and exposure, I gained courage and confidence. To ease into modeling in front of the camera, I employ techniques such as listening to music and using affirmations to get into the right mindset. Communication with the camera operator is also crucial; they often provide guidance to help you feel more at ease. Similarly, my initial experiences with beauty pageants were nerve-wracking but educational. Confidence grew with each opportunity, aided by a supportive team and knowledgeable coaches who preserved my unique essence while refining my presentation. The culmination of efforts from various individuals transforms the raw potential into a polished performance.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social media wields immense influence, amplifying whatever content is shared. Its impact can significantly shape individuals’ lives, underscoring the importance of responsible usage and intentionality. It’s vital to differentiate between the virtual world of social media and real-life interactions, ensuring we don’t lose ourselves in the digital realm and remain present in what truly matters.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? What’s your favorite social media?
While I prefer face-to-face interactions, I acknowledge the value of social media in expanding connections beyond physical boundaries. It allows for immediate sharing of experiences and facilitates connection with individuals globally. Currently, my favorite social media platforms are Instagram and Facebook. I appreciate seeing the diverse experiences of friends and family through shared photos, videos, and stories, fostering a sense of closeness despite physical distance. Additionally, I enjoy the lightheartedness of memes shared on these platforms.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
My best advice is to embrace the courage to pursue their passions. Instead of dwelling on the “what ifs,” use fear as a catalyst for action. Every endeavor, whether it leads to success or not, is a valuable lesson and an act of bravery that contributes to personal growth.
For parents, there’s immense strength in being pillars of support for their children. Providing unwavering encouragement and guidance can make a world of difference. Having my parents by my side has been pivotal in my journey. Their support gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams, knowing that I always had a safe harbor to return to. Regardless of the outcome, knowing that their love and support are constant is invaluable.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
The most significant lesson I’ve learned is to embrace and love myself unconditionally, especially my body. The fashion and beauty pageant industries have a history of imposing rigid standards of beauty, which can be challenging to navigate. However, it’s crucial to recognize and celebrate one’s uniqueness and understand that beauty comes in various forms. Moreover, I’ve learned to prioritize inner qualities and characteristics over external appearances, focusing on what truly elevates and nourishes the soul.
12.- Virnalis, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
While my journey as a model has been fulfilling, it hasn’t been without its challenges. Balancing a demanding academic schedule with modeling opportunities presented significant obstacles. I missed out on many opportunities due to conflicting schedules and academic commitments. However, I believe that everything happens for a reason and in its own time. Despite the setbacks, I remained steadfast in my dedication to both my academic and modeling pursuits. Upon completing my studies, I seized the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico in Miss Mesoamerica, embracing the experience with emotional, professional, and financial stability. Overcoming obstacles required resilience, adaptability, and unwavering determination to pursue my passions while staying true to my academic goals.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
Absolutely! I’ve always harbored a dream of delving into acting and experiencing the intricacies of the entertainment industry firsthand. While acting is undoubtedly appealing, I’m equally passionate about communications. My aspiration is to merge my expertise as a pharmacist with my passion for communication, thereby educating and impacting lives on a broader scale. It’s a way for me to serve others while indulging in what I love about both worlds.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I envision a future where women continue to unite as a community, breaking barriers, and creating opportunities for the next generation. While acknowledging the progress made by courageous women throughout history, we recognize that there’s still work to be done. By standing together and fostering inclusivity, we can pave the way for a future where women are empowered to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
15.- Virnalis, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation stems from the opportunity to script my own narrative each day. I strive to live authentically and make a positive impact on others while continuously seeking personal growth. Inspiring others positively is a source of inspiration for me. Each day, I’m grateful for my profession, which allows me to positively impact others’ health, as well as for the unwavering support of my family, the beauty of nature, and the abundance of blessings that surround me.
16.- Virnalis, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I LOVE TO TRAVEL. When I was 15 years old, I won a student trip to Argentina because of my good grades. That trip was an eye-opener to the wonders the world has to offer. Different cultures, languages, foods, landscapes… We often get caught up in our daily routines and forget to truly live or explore beyond our comfort zones. The best way to learn is through experience, and that’s what I cherish most about traveling.
The countries I have visited so far include: Argentina, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas, various Caribbean Islands, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Greece, including Santorini and Mykonos, Milan, Venice, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and most recently, El Salvador.
I aspire to visit as many countries as possible, but the ones at the top of my list are Japan, Egypt, Thailand, Peru, Switzerland, and Norway.
There’s truly no place like Puerto Rico! From my beautiful island, I highly recommend visiting our stunning beaches, especially Playa Flamenco in Culebra, considered one of the world’s best beaches. I also recommend experiencing one (or all three) of our bioluminescent bays, exploring the El Yunque Rainforest, wandering the historic streets of Old San Juan, and enjoying many other breathtaking destinations.
