In this edition of Perumira Global Talent, we have the honor of interviewing a woman who has it all: beauty, talent, intelligence and social commitment. She is Lee-Ann Naidoo, an international model, brand ambassador, beauty queen and Mrs Grand South Africa 2023. Lee-Ann Naidoo is an inspiration to many women, not only for her successful modeling career but also for her courage in facing life’s challenges.
Lee-Ann Naidoo tells us more about her personal and professional journey, her current and future projects, and her vision on the world of fashion and beauty. Don’t miss this exclusive conversation with one of the most fascinating and admirable women of our time: Lee-Ann Naidoo.
1.- Lee-Ann, you were born in South Africa, What do you like about your hometown in South Africa?
My country is so diverse in culture religion and race. Dubbed the rainbow nation we form a melting pot of culture. My country displays beauty beyond comprehension from oceans to mountains and the most breathtaking wildlife and dispite the past and our apartheid regime. We triumph as a nation. The term ubuntu displays our sense of pride as a nation.
2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?
My hobbies are baking as i am a baker by profession. I afore using the medium of food as a canvas to create culinary genius. Family brings me joy as i am a mother to 3 beautiful children. I love reading and acquiring knowledge and my favourite past time is travelling and exploring new lands culture and people. I love engaging with peopke and community work and charity makes my heart sing as i know my purpose.
3.- International Model – Brand Ambassador – Beauty Queen – Mrs Grand South Africa 2023. When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
Last year i made a decision to go out of my comfort zone and entered a competition. My fame actually comes from baking and being a well known food editor for various magazines in South Africa. This opened doors for me as i hold 2 south african records for macaron baking. This was to challenge myself and also it gave me a platform to grow as a woman through influence and the sisterhood of queens. The feeling of setting an unachirvable goal in my world and achieving it shows me im capable beyond my own comprehension. I entered as i wanted to use my influence to become impactful. Mrs Grand highlights community and the empowerment journey of older more established woman. I was beyond excited achieving this goal. I want to be an impactful woman that drives change through action and service to mankind.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Lee-Ann in each activity carried out as beauty queen and model?
I define the crown the crwon doesnt define me. Im bold and full of passion and drive. My defining stamp is that i represent the underdog the woman that has been divorced abused and a single mother and i succeeded in this life through compassion grace and service to mankind. Im defined by my energy i bring to the room and the source of positivity. Im a beacon of hope to all those that were told they cant. Im a gender based violence survivor and im hope that dreams are a living reality. I define that with hard work and sheer determination you able to life a life with purpose and passion.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
Integrity and honour. You need to be an honest honourable woman that displays integrity and compassion in all her engagements. Grace of a woman is vital to hold the crown as you are a role model to so many. Be virtuous in your engaements and in your life.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I want to live my life to the best of my ability. Being a mom of 2 daughters i understand the impact beauty standards have on developing teens and young woman. My advice is yo embrace your authentic self. Show the world your sparkle. Dont try to immitate anybody else as the magic lies within you. You are capable and a womans worth is measured not only by beauty but her impact on society and her educational footprint she leaves. I would advocate for kindness and acceptace in the harsh world of beauty. I would also advice that the world of modeling requires great mental stability and education. Your brain is your biggest asset. I want to advocate that you can chase your dreams at any age. In my 20s i didnt enter pageants because i was insecure and thought i wasnt worthy. I came back in my 50s to take a title becausr i believed in my own worth. Know your worth always.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
The nerves arr insanely real. Well i was aware of the butterflies in my tummy but nobody prepares you for your knees literally going weak. The experience is frightening but so liberating and empowering. Knowing you overcame the fear and triumphed. The experience is exhilarating and you will gain confidence with each shoot. Practice makes perfect and if at first you dont succeed keep trying.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social media is the most powerful medium in converting the world into a global village. We have incredible reach and influence of socials all around the world. Its a perfect way to showcase your talents and achievements but most importantly to advocate for your causes. Social media also joins and is a netwotk for people to collaboratr and grow regardless of where you situated in the world. Influence comes from socials and growth of models or beauty qurens are insane. Social media has an amazing way of bringing people together. I have made familya and friends from socials and also found long lost family. Sovial media has its positives and negatives. Just dep3nding how you navigate it.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
Facebook definately. My followers have become family I have met so many people through socials and i grew my network leaps and bounds. Im constantly engaging in comments and attending dms. But the most support comes when the public see first hand my involement in community drives. Im also always giving back in form of competitions and giveaways. My socials also is a platform for me to advertise my sponsors and their impact in my journey.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Your talent is your god given gift to share with the world. Its what defines you as a human. As parents its out duty to nurture and grow our kids talents. Follow your passion always it will lead you to your purpose in this world. Parents encourage your children to achieve freatness through hard work deligence and a will to achieve greatness. Our children are the future of this world its not our place to stop their growth and developement. Parents your role is pivotol in the success of your children.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
Always be your authentic self. Dont imitate any other person. Your super power is to embrace you. Nobody is petfect we all have off days. Guard your energy as this world is harsh and remember always be your competitors source of inspiration. Be kind always mean girls do exist in this world but you dont have to sign up of it. You have a choice and choose kindness
12.- Lee-Ann, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
It took me 2 years to release my face on the internet. My challenges were my own insecurities not pretty enough or skinny enough or how would people see me as old. I also wanted to be somebody i was not. Prayer and mediation and constant self improving of skills will assist you in going far. Remain humble in your endevours and rise to every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
Yes i have had these thoughts and who knows what the future holds. I have been for castings with my agency 33 and me and this i leave in gods timing and grace. Hopefully soon you see me on the big screen
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
As a victim of genderbased violence and having Indian heritage the role of woman is exploited. We are expected to excell in every facet of life. The expectations are unbearable to be a good wife great career woman mother and be beautiful and well kept. Woman are beginning to make a noise to be heard. We are actually entering a phase of collaboration over competition. Woman are standing together to make their voices heard. We advocate for our rights and we are also providing supportto change the mindset of the role a woman plays in society. Be a trailblazer make a noise take up space and let the world see a womans worth.
15.- Lee-Ann, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
I meditate daily to stay grounded and focused on my dreams and achieving my infinite potential. It also quietens down the noise of life. Live a purpose driven life and adopt and attitude of gratitude as you operate on the frequency of love understanding and compassion.
16.- Lee-Ann, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from South Africa?
Im a traveller at heart. Iv stayed in usa for 5 years in boca raton florida. I have a brand ambassadorship in turkey istanbul so twice a year im there. I have travelled to Dubai all states in america. Amsterdam Switzerland France, phuket and Brazil. I advise every human to travel to explore and expand as an individual. Its a pwrfect eay to discover the world and yourself and meet tons of friends that become family
