Rachel with her joy and captivating smile grants us part of her time a few days before perhaps being crowned Miss World Canada 2022.
Welcome Rachel Murgel!!!

1.- Rachel, tell me about the city where you were born and raised ,What do you like about your hometown? What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?

I was raised in Toronto, Ontario! I love the city because it is so bustling and busy, but it also has this sense of community.

I love reading and playing the piano. I believe that the arts provide depth to life, and they’re great ways to connect with others.

I love spending time with my friends and family. They make me laugh, and I feel so safe when we’re together.

2.- Model, Beauty Queen, Miss World Ontario 2022, Miss World Canada 2022 Delegate, When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized woman today?

I decided to participate in my first pageant about a year ago when I  saw an advert on Facebook. I have always been interested in pageantry but was never courageous enough to actually take the step. After Covid, I adopted this mindset where I didn’t want to put off experiences for “the right time”, which may never actually come! So I said, if not now, then when? And I haven’t looked back since. It’s been instrumental in pushing me towards my goals, and focusing on my passions. I think that contrary to the stigma surrounding pageants, it’s been a great way to connect with myself, others, and my community in a positive way, all while celebrating my femininity!

3.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Rachel in each activity carried out as a person?

I am driven by my desire to connect with others. It’s something that I take into every role in my life, and this care and compassion take centre stage in every relationship. People don’t remember what you say or do, but they do remember how you made them feel. And I do my best to ensure that I make others feel understood and empowered.

4.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be a beauty queen?

Empathy! As a Miss World Canada representative, I have taken on a Beauty with a Purpose project, which is a campaign that focuses on serving others. To genuinely serve others, we must be empathetic towards their circumstances. Empathy, to me, is the foundation of all meaningful relationships.

5.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for many girls who want to be beauty queen? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

I don’t often think about being an influential woman for young girls because it can be overwhelming to face that responsibility. I think it’s really important for young women to have someone to look up to, and it is such an honour to be considered among those role models. I hope to inspire young girls to be true to themselves, and affect positive change in their communities.

6.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

The first feeling was definitely nerves. But it quickly shifted to excitement. Modeling and participating in my first provincial pageant was such a great experience because it allowed me to own who I am, and that was so empowering.

7.- What do you think about the power of social media today?

I think that it can be a powerful tool for education and connection, but it must be used wisely. It can breed comparison, which is harmful because it takes away from the fact that everybody walks their own path in life! So, I say, live your life, share and celebrate that with others, but don’t overthink it.

8.- What’s your favorite social media?

I love Instagram and the way it connects people from across the world with shared interests!

9.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

I would say that if you have a dream or goal in life, but are afraid of judgement or an unfavourable outcome, feel the fear and do it anyway! You will never regret putting your whole self into something you believe in or feel passionately about. Trust that the journey of life will make you stronger and ultimately bring you joy.

Regarding parents, their support has the power to be a huge help or obstacle in facing challenges or successes. It’s important for parents to recognize that their children are their own people, and it’s okay that they chase dreams that may be different or unconventional. All they need is a little help to get there.

10.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?

I love the entertainment industry! I took drama all throughout highschool, and have definitely thought about being an actress. I’m currently focused on pageantry, but if acting is in the stars for my future I am totally open to that.

11.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

I think the role of women is ever-important. There is always space for different perspectives and ideas in positions of authority, and we still need representation to create change that continues to build up women and create equal opportunities.

12.- Rachel, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

I am so grateful for my family and friends. They play a huge role in my support system, and have been instrumental in facing challenges and successes in the last year.

My motivation is my future self. When I wake up in the morning, I want to choose to lead a life that I will look back on with pride. I don’t want to regret the choices that I made, or failed to make. That way, at the end of the day I know I lived my life with joy and purpose.

13.- Rachel, What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?

I spent this last summer travelling solo through Europe, which was such a fun and educational experience! While I have been so privileged to travel the world, I actually haven’t visited any provinces in Canada aside from my own, so I would love to do a national trip one year.

14.- You and me (Jaime William) are going to play ping pong, I will tell you one word and you will answer with another word that comes to your mind.
