1.- Marija, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
I was born and raised in small Croatian city near Adriatic sea, Zadar. My childhood was very beautiful there. I had a lot of friends, big family and attended many sport activities.
Altrought I moved to bigger city called Zagreb at the age od 18, I still have special place in my heart for my town.
When someone asks me what is my favourite place in Zadar, its hard to choose only one.
My go to places are definitely Church of St. Donat, Sea organ and Greeting to the Sun.
Sea organ is unique architectual object that plays music with help of sea waves.
2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I actually have a lot of hobbies!
First one is modeling of course, but I also love writing blogs on Lux Vitalis platform. Altrough my blogs are mostly based on fashion and beauty, I am currently working on new blog about Mental Health. That theme is really important to me because before pageants I was anxious girl that never showed up in public. Pageants helped me to overcome that and I want to share my powerfull message to all the girls watching me.
When it comes to sports I am mostly into dance. Dance is my way to relax and train at the same time. I love learing new languages. I can speak Croatian, English, Italian and I‘m also learing Spanish and Turkish.
3.-International Model, Miss Heritage Global Croatia 2024 – Miss Tourism World Croatia 2023 . When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
It all started when I was 17 years old.
I was invited to compete on regional Miss pageant in my city. Altrough at that point I didn‘t know anything about beauty pageants and modeling, I gave it a try. I haven‘t won anything that time, but it was my first step into modeling and Pageant work.
Now 21, I have 8 sashes at home that I achieved with dedication and hard work, and I‘m soon going to my 2nd international pageant Miss Heritage Global in September 2024.
I will also appear on Croatian TV Drama in smaller role, as model in 60-ies. That will be my first acting role in life and a new opportunity for future.
It still feels unreal to me, but I am so grateful and happy for everything that is happening now.
I wish my journey inspires young women to go for their dreams and take their steps into better future.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Marija in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I believe we are all valuable, unique and beautiful, that is something we should never forget. When I do something or focus on something, I put my whole me in that task. Even when the days are hard and challenging, dedication is the only key to success.
I work hard to make results, but I also never forget I am Human. It is really important to stay grateful and humble at every point of your life.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
I believe it is hard work and dedication.
We see many talented people around us, but talent without hard work won‘t pay off on long-term. Being an international model, means a lot of traveling, shooting different campaigns and excitement, but also a lot of dedication and loneliness. For example I remember spending my favourite holiday-Christmas on Istanbul Airport while my family was in Croatia.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I believe our words, actions and social media are really influental to young girls who are watching.
As an influental women, I want to use my platforms to inpire young women to be the leaders of their own life. I also want to raise awarness on important topics like mental health.
I believe I have positive impact on younger generations and I want to continue with my mission.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
My first modeling job was actually after first beauty pageant, few days later.
On first pageant It was hard to relax and I didn‘t know how to do a catwalk, but it was still nice experience. I did show a lot of personality on stage, especially on Q&A part. After the pageant, Croatian designer Ela Dusevic booked me for her fashion show and bikini shooting.
I still have those photos and I can‘t believe I‘m only 17 there.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
I believe it has strong influence on everyone. Because of that, we need to learn how to get positive impact from it. It is also a place where we see a lot of negativity like bullying and unreal images of women/men. We should be always aware social media is not the real life, and try to use positive aspects of it and stop the negativity.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
I like to show them my creativity through all work I do. It is important to respect your public so I always reply to my messages and comments.
When it comes to blog, sometimes I give them options to vote for the topic they want to see next. My favorite social media is definitely Instagram.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I was there before. We all need to start somewhere. Start is the hardest, later it is much easier, so I would advise them to take that first step. One of my favorite quotes is: „Trying and failing is better then not trying at all. „
Don‘t be scared, believe you have what it takes and Universe will listen to you.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
Not everyone‘s path is the same. Sometimes it takes longer but If you keep going you will get the results.
12.- Marija, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles?How did you overcome obstacles?
My biggest obstacle at beggining was my height. I am only 172 cm tall, which is the minimum height for modeling in Croatia and most of Europe. But I keept pushing harder and never gave up. There was lot of No, but it didn‘t define my capability to succed.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I love it. I mentioned before I will appear in one Croatian Tv Drama, in role of a model in 60-s.
After that we will see what happens, but one day I would love to get a main role in international movie/seria.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
It really breaks my heart to see injustice when it comes to women. I believe world is envolving and societies are learning how important women are in all fields of life. They are not only our mothers, sisters and wifes but beautiful, smart and capable of big things in our societies.
15.- Marija, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation comes from my heart. I love what I do, so it helps me motivate myself on hard days. I feel grateful for every new day, because each day is a blessing from God and new opportunity to do something you love.
16.- Marija, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I love traveling! Actually I visited almost whole Europe. Apart from Europe, I was in China for Miss Tourism World finals. China really impressed me with culture and big buildings. My go to place in China is definitely Quingjing Taouyan and Chinese version of Disneyland Huai‘an West Amusement Park.
In Europe I can imagine myself living in Istanbul because of similar culture and a lot of delicious food. Also, Turkey has a lot of modeling and commercial work!
When it comes to my country, you should visit Zadar-Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun, Plitvice lakes and worldwide famous Dubrovnik. Game of Thrones was filmed in Dubrovnik actually.
