1.- Layal, tell me about the city where you were born and raised.,What do you like about your hometown?

I was Born in New Jersey USA, right by the shore! I guess that’s where i get the immense love for the sea from! Then i came back to Lebanon, where i spent most of my time for education and as soon as school would be over, we would be traveling back to the US, especially if my family was not visiting Lebanon! So i never really got to experience “hometown” in one place, but i did love the mix of it! Spending time at the mountains with my grandparents from my mom’s side, eating authentic Lebanese food, surrounded by nature, gardening… i also remember playing jump rope and cooking with my grandma, and listening to grandpa as he taught me some of his Arabic poems. He was very keen on teaching me the proper way of speaking and writing, which i found difficult sometimes! I also loved spending time on the beach in New Jersey with my Uncle and Aunt, in Washington DC with cousins, and New York with more family and friends. It was a different vibe, going to nice playgrounds, malls, playing with kids my age! Growing up, I spent a lot of time going back and forth!

2.- What are your hobbies?  What makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?

My hobbies i would say is traveling…anywhere, anytime… traveling is always a good idea! I love to create new memories, try new experiences and learn from other cultures! I love animals in general, dogs, horses and dolphins make me happy, i did own a horse when i was a kid so i ride horses when i travel sometimes!

I also love fashion! I love to shop, mix and match, even make my own designs sometimes! A lot of friends ask me to help with their outfits for certain occasions! I also absolutely LOVE planning and decorating for an event! In my humble opinion, i am very talented in table decorating and designing a theme for an event! And my go to therapy/addiction is the beach. I always say there is no problem that a good day at the beach can’t fix!

3.- International Model, Miss Europe Continental Lebanon 2023. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?

Honestly i never dreamed of entering a beauty pageant, that was never a life goal, but i did find a slight interest in modeling! Growing up, i was regularly told that i should consider entering a beauty pageant, but i never took it seriously until i was contacted without even casting to Miss Emigrant Lebanon, to represent the USA and to Miss Europe Continental to represent Lebanon in the same year! I guess i got lucky to get the chance to represent both countries in different pageants by chance! And i was always asked to face model for makeup artists, so i guess having these experiences pushed me more into the modeling/influencer industry. I do get a lot of offers from photographers or jewelry modeling or stuff like that between Lebanon and Dubai, but i am very selective with what I accept. For me it’s fun and not a job, and that’s what i like about it! The fact that i get to choose and decide what i want and if i take the offer depending on where i am and how i feel about it! Being a cover girl in Dubai was fun! I like to keep it fun, but maybe one day i will take it more seriously… who knows!

4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Layal in each activity carried out as a  beauty queen and model?

I think “authenticity” because i really do care about enjoying myself and having a good time and feeling happy,  confident, spreading positivity, self love and empowering others when i do it, so when I don’t actually feel good (and we all have bad days), i don’t fake it! Instead, I would pass the opportunity to model! Even as a micro influencer, i do show people, especially on my stories very random, authentic moments where sometimes i am goofy, upset, or even tired… Also a good trait to have in this specific field is not caring about people’s opinions, jealous people will always judge you no matter what you do! Successful people have better things to do!

5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?

Be confident in your own skin, nothing is more beautiful than showing people how much you love yourself! Even if people try to bring you down, fix your crown and shine! You are special the way you are, don’t try to be someone you’re not just to fit in! Especially now, the standards of models have changed to fit the realistic shapes! Be proud of who you are, Be confident and be yourself!

6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

Having a background in early childhood and having worked with amazing students, some with learning disabilities others with ADHD or autism… i know a lot of teenagers (former students), especially girls look up to me! And at that age they are going through physical changes, emotional changes and dealing with life in general, which can be tough sometimes , therefore i know that some things can affect them psychologically, and this might lead them to think that they can never be influencial people/models/beauty queens! It is important for me to show them that NOT EVERYONE IS PERFECT LIKE YOU SEE ON SOCIAL MEDIA! Even I don’t look like my pictures sometimes! when i am having a bad day and I’m wearing an oversized hoodie and eating a bag of chips with my hair up! Models have stretch marks and cellulite and little tummies or else where would they hold their uterus??? This is how we are made! Sometimes we have pimples, sometimes we gain or lose weight…But on social media most people show the positive things! The good times when they are laughing, because when someone is crying people don’t document that and post it! The nice outfit with makeup, because surely no one will post themselves chilling on the couch with a tshirt and shorts on! The sexy bikini pic with the tummy tucked in and the perfect pose, surely not the one where the rolls come out when we sit….. but every human being has these things, they just don’t show them! So no matter where you are in life or how you look like, YOU DEFINITELY CAN BE ON THAT STAGE!  Especially in today’s day, there is no standard size to be a model or a beauty queen! Also all pageant pictures are edited, so be easy on yourself!

7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

I’m not ashamed to say i cried so hard, i was so nervous and i hated my hair because they did the styling and  it was just not my style, as you do not get to choose sometimes! But at that point there was nothing i can do, i would definitely look better on a regular day! So i convinced myself to just feel the moment because not everyone gets to be here and enjoy it! I walked on that stage and loved every moment, i even waved to my friends and family, which in my opinion was what got me in high ranks! Now i laugh at how upset i was and i am grateful for the opportunity! I remember my authenticity post-pageant, when i revealed to people that i was craving a burger which every one found funny!

8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?

Big question! Social media has a huge impact on everyone today, you can’t live without it and it surely causes damage to live with it! I think knowing how, for what, how much and when to use it is key! It can brainwash people into thinking that everything is perfect In everyone’s life leading to depression, it can be a tool for destroying relationships, but it can also be a tool to reconnect and be up to date and even make money! Managing how you use social media, and what you see so you don’t feed your brain garbage, and limit it’s use to avoid addiction is very important!

9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?

Currently I mostly interact on Instagram! i have been told to have TikTok but i guess it peaked for younger generations! Who knows? might follow that trend one day but not for now! I also rarely use X, and Facebook is more for family in the US that are not on Instagram!

10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

It’s better to try and fail than wake up one day when you’re older with the feeling of regret for not trying! And also, it is never too late, you can do whatever you want at any age, life does not stop after a certain age! I would tell parents that do not support their children’s talents that you are dimming their light! If their talents cause no harm, let them persue it, it might make them shine more than sticking to a book!

11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?

You have to be up to date and very well informed! In the fashion industry, sometimes you will get backlash for wearing something that everyone is boycotting for good reasons! In pageants it is important to go for the experience, fun and friends, not the crown! Be yourself and enjoy it, and good things will come to you!

12.- Layal, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?

As I previously mentioned, the opportunity came to me, and i am grateful for it!

13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?

I haven’t thought about it, but i am open to the idea if it comes! And if it doesn’t, i will not lose sleep over it! It is very important not to obsess and have expectations because you will be disappointed rather than just enjoying life and being surprised when things come to you!

14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

Today, women who have voices and followers on their platforms can be the voices of these women! Social media can be a positive tool in that case, to raise awareness!

15.- Layal, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

My family, my family and my family!God’s greatest blessing! I am so very grateful i have the best parents and brother. They are my motivation, my support, my genuine best friends! I aspire to give that to my future children!

16.- Layal, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?

As previously mentioned, i travel a lot, i have been to a fair number of places, some of which are Indonesia, Australia, Capetown, Several States in the US, Dubai, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt… the list goes on but no matter how much i travel, it will never be enough! I love seeing new cultures, trying new food… etc! I would love to visit Peru, Thailand, Croatia, China… several countries that my pageant sisters represented which i found fascinating! Let’s not forget The maldives and Venice but these are a bit more romantic places!

If you ever visit my beautiful Lebanon, I recommend you visit Tyre (by the sea) where dad comes from! It was once referred to as the capital of the world! The first alphabets came from the phoenicians where they lived thousands of years ago! Europe was named after the daughter of the king of Tyre! They call it the fishermen’s village with golden sunsets and it was mentioned several times in the Bible, and Tannourine (mountain) where mom comes from, also where Shakira originally comes from and visits frequently to smell the the cedar trees, the icon of Lebanon that is found on our flag ! Trust me, as much as i’ve traveled, i am still fascinated by the beauty and resilience of my Lebanon!
