Genelita Clifton

It is an honor to present from the United States, the beauty and talent of Genelita Clifton, International Model – Ms. Nation Universe 2021-2022, Ms. US Nation 2021-2022, Ms. Texas US Nation 2021-2022. Genelita is a native of the Philippines and grants me a valuable interview.

Welcome Genelita Clifton!!!

1.- Genelita, you were born in Philippines ,What do you like about your hometown in Philippines ?

I think I miss the food most of all. One can get anything they want at anytime. It is a vibrant, 24 hour city. There are many islands and places to discover and I wish to go back and see the rest of my country some day.

2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?

I really enjoy traveling, shopping and trying new foods. My husband knows how to make me laugh. Preparing meals for my family is a gift of love that satisfies me and fulfills me. If only I had more time to commit to this.

3.- International Model, Beauty Queen – Ms. Nation Universe 2021-2022, Ms. US Nation 2021-2022, Ms. Texas US Nation 2021-2022 – When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?

Though I had always wanted to be a model, beauty queen and actress since I was young, there were really no opportunities for me until just recently. I had to get the rest of my life stabilized – marriage, children, settling into a home were all priorities before i could focus on my personal dreams. It was just recently when I decided i could devote some time to developing my skills in front of a camera. This was something I did for me, but I have support from my entire family, especially my husband who gives me honest and constructive feedback.

4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Genelita in each activity carried out as a person and model?

Anyone that works with me will tell you that I have a golden heart. Because i truly enjoy interacting with others, I get along with everyone and that is what photographers, producers and fans comment to me all the time – that I am genuine and easy to talk to and get to know. My husband says that is my number one attraction and the reason he married me – my sweetness.

5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?

Modeling is about confidence. Of course you need beauty, grace and charm, but if you feel confident in those traits, it will translate to your audience or clients.

6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

I am aware of this because it has been my primary goal since i started. I have the advantage of being a bit more mature than most models so I feel it is my obligation to pass that wisdom on to others who are just finding their purpose and style. I enjoy doing this in training of young and new talent and mentoring aspiring models.

7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

Though I can be very shy in one-on-one situations, being on stage (literally and figuratively) gives me a feeling like no other. I love to be in the spotlight and to be the center of attention whatever I am doing. This refers back to confidence. I am most confident when I know that people are watching my every move.

8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?

It goes without saying that exposure to opportunities has increased exponentially since the days of billboards and television. One can reach millions of people in seconds and interact with them from across the hemispheres. Of course this can have negative impacts on one just as easily, but i think the advantages outweigh any disadvantages.

9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?

I prefer Facebook, simply because the audience there consists of those who I am trying to meet. I liked Instagram until my account was hacked and received no support from them in recovering my account, so I have not really gone back to it. LinkedIn has provided several unexpected opportunities, so it is high on my list as well. As for interaction, I do not usually use direct messaging unless I know the person, so I use posts and reels to get my messages across to my followers.

10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

Many people would say “follow your dreams” and don’t give up, but the reality is that not everyone will be accepted or successful, so my advice is to pursue it but don’t put all your efforts into it. You must be able to pay the rent and meet your obligations while following your dreams. I believe parents should convey this to their children. There needs to be a balance in developing your talents while working to pay your bills. This applies to modeling, acting, sports, music and any other creative endeavors.

11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?

Unfortunately, there are many people who prey on aspiring models and actresses. Beware of scams on email and industry websites, “gigs” that require you to pay, and agencies that offer to represent you if you pay for their educational programs. I was surprised to learn how the industry takes advantage of its own people.  As for pageants, I learned that there are many different ones, most of which are about making money and not development of young women. I was fortunate to win several pageants, but I also lost one that I later learned had pre-dtermined winners based on their contributions to the producer.

12.- Genelita, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?

The work has been easy for me, because as i mentioned before, I am naturally drawn to the center of attraction and i thrive on it. Being accepted into the industry is not as easy. One has to discern between those who want to exploit you  and those who really find value in your assets. I learned this the hard way, through trial and error and wasted time and money on false opportunities that got me nowhere. But now that I know what to expect from people, i can easily make decisions on which jobs to accept.

13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?

I tried a little bit of acting and was excited when I got my first credit. Once I hit that benchmark, I stopped actively auditioning and looking and now I wait until someone I trust calls me or refers me to a casting. This will likely not make me an overnight actress sensation, but I am in a position of doing other things that I am not desperate to get a part.

14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

I think countries that still oppress women have bigger challenges than acting and modeling. As women achieve more rights, such as in politics, socially, and academically, the arts will follow along. This is going to happen fast, in my opinion. I am already seeing movies on streaming sites that are being produced in some countries that did not allow women in any industry before.

15.- Genelita, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

I have a natural motivation to make people happy. This is partly a product of the culture in which i was raised and partly because of my personal belief that there is good in everyone. It sounds corny, but I really believe that everyone has beauty and talent and can make a positive contribution to society. The only difference with me is that i do not wait to see it before acknowledging someone’s worth. I just assume as soon as i meet them that they are a good person like me and are deserving of my friendship.

16.- Genelita, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from Philippines and USA?

Traveling is a hobby of me and my husband. We have been exploring the US in the past few years, and while we have not been there yet, we want to see Europe and any other parts of the world we can. I am a big advocate of my home country of the Philippines. Those who have never visited would be surprised at the lush, tropical mountains and beautiful beaches. I encourage everyone to put Phil on their list of places to see. As for the US, we spend a lot of time touring the south and we both like the people and sights from Texas to Georgia. There are not many places left that have not been degraded by poor political and economic decisions, so I want to see every state as soon as possible.

17.- You and me (Jaime William) are going to play ping pong, I will tell you one word and you will answer with another word that comes to your mind.

– Marriage – Sacred/soulmate

– Childrens – Gifts from God

– Love – happiness

– USA – Opportunity

– Travel – Exploring

– Abortion – Sorrow

– Dance – Joy

– Sing – Emotions

– Europe – History

– America – Freedom

– Sport – Exercise

– Money – Power

– Parents – Guidance

– Dreams – Inspiration

– Passion – Enthusiasm

– Madness Percentage – Craziness

– Character – Integrity

18.- Genelita, your last words or final tips

Everyone says “follow your dreams” and I agree, but with some caveats. Be realistic and honest with yourself. Of all the thousands of persons aspiring to hit it big, only a few will ever make it. Of those that make it, it is based less on talent and more on being at the right place at the right time.  Another common advisory from those who have been around is to have a job that you truly enjoy. I think if you combined those two pieces of advice, you would have a better chance of success. For example, if you aspire to be a model, get a job as an intern at an agency, or learn to be a photographer, or a makeup artist. Working within the industry gives you a much better chance to be “discovered”.
