1. – Fabienne, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. What do you like about your hometown?
To begin with, thank you for approaching me for this interview.
I was born and raised in the city of Vlissingen. Vlissingen is also known as the city by the sea, which is part of its charm. Did you know that Vlissingen has the longest sea boulevard in the Netherlands?
And that it is one of the few places in Europe where large ships sail so close to the coast?
The sense of freedom you experience when walking along the boulevard, where you can enjoy the beach, the view, and the many lovely restaurants, is incredible. I find Vlissingen especially cozy in the summer, as the city truly comes alive when the tourist season starts.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
What makes me especially happy is spending time with my family. This could be a fun evening at the cinema or going out for dinner together. In my free time, I enjoy reading or being creative.
Additionally, I love going away for the weekend, taking city trips, or going on beautiful journeys. I enjoy getting to know other cultures and meeting new people. Pageants are also a hobby of mine. I enjoy challenging myself, meeting new and inspiring women, and ultimately being part of the big show on stage.
3.- International Model – Miss Universe Zeeland 2025 Finalist . When did you decide to take your first steps as a model ? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
I started participating in pageants in 2020. For me, this became a passion that I unfortunately
discovered at a later age. In 2022, I participated in my last pageant when I was 27 years old. That was also the last time I could participate due to the age limit at the time. When I heard that Miss Universe had removed the age limit, I saw this as my chance to continue pursuing my passion.
This world has always intrigued me because I was inspired by the idea of gaining a platform to share my story. I see pageants as an opportunity for personal growth and development. I didn’t start participating in pageants because I had ambitions to become a model. I see myself more in the position of a role model, where other (young) women can relate to me. That’s why I always stay true to myself. Pageants have taught me not to fit into a specific role or conform to stereotypical ideals of what a «miss» should be.
Through my participation, I stand for mental health, diversity, and the power of unique personalities. I especially want to highlight the issue of having a negative self-image and the strength of introversion. Did you know that 30% of the population is introverted, but no one really acknowledges it? This happens because introverts often have to step into a role to meet societal norms. I no longer want to step into a role and just want to be myself. My main goal with participating in pageants is to raise awareness that it’s okay to be different, and in doing so, I want to break the stigma surrounding mental health and promote diversity in personalities.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Fabienne in each activity carried out as a model?
I believe my strength lies in my unique personality, distinctiveness and authenticity. I may not be a ‘typical’ miss. Since I already talk about typical myself, that means there is a certain stereotype and image associated with being a miss. I want to break with this stereotyping and show that any woman with ambition who wants to share her story on a platform can become a miss. I have an introverted personality so I am still sometimes overlooked. But still waters run deep. This is what also sets me apart, my humble character, down-to-earth mentality and my empathy.
5.- What’s is the main virtue that any woman must have to be a model?
Authenticity is the most important thing for me. A miss must stay true to herself, her goals, and her ideals. Not wanting to change who you are. I believe that when you stay close to yourself, you come across as genuine. Additionally, it’s important to have adaptability. You must be able to adjust to different situations, cultures, and people.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I see myself more as an inspiration for others, not necessarily as an idol. With my participation in Miss Universe, I also aim to inspire others with my story and message. I believe this is important because, as a miss, you can serve as a role model. It’s crucial for me that other girls can relate to me and my story.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modelled in front of a video camera?
The first time I stood in front of the camera, I found it impressive. Suddenly, there are many eyes on you, which makes you very aware of what you’re doing and thinking—wondering, «What would others think of me?» But at the same time, it also gives you power. You see yourself in a way you’re not used to.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
I see social media nowadays more as something negative than positive. The image of real life has completely changed. People forget to pay attention to real life, to the here and now. The boundaries become blurred. Just think about the consequences of online bullying. Negative comments are easily posted, and that makes you very vulnerable. I believe that as a miss, you must be very aware of how you use social media. That’s why I try to be very approachable.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
My favorite social media platform is Instagram, because of its visual aspect. I’m not very big on social media yet, so I don’t have many followers. This is also because I’ve never used my social media with a career focus. However, I do want to keep my social media authentic and build real connections. My ideal goal would be for people to follow me because I inspire them.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
For young people who have talent but are afraid to take the next step, I would advise starting small and working on building self-confidence step by step. Look for small successes that push you forward.
Surround yourself with positive people who believe in you, and remember that it’s normal to feel nervous – it often means you’re doing something that truly matters to you. Dare to take risks and don’t be afraid to make mistakes; they are part of growth.
To parents who don’t support their children’s talents, I would say: try to listen to what truly makes your child happy. Your support can make the difference between dreams becoming reality or missed opportunities. Even if you don’t fully understand your child’s path, your encouragement can give them the courage they need to reach their potential. Ultimately, parents want their children to be happy and fulfilled, and often that comes from following their passion.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion?
One of the most important lessons is the value of perseverance and self-confidence. The industry can be competitive and demanding, but believing in yourself and continuing to push forward, even after rejections, is essential. I also notice that, because I sometimes still struggle with a negative self-image, it’s difficult not to compare myself to others and get stuck in negativity.
Another lesson is that authenticity matters. It’s tempting to conform to trends or expectations, but those who stay true to their own style and vision stand out and make a lasting impact.
12.- Fabienne, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
No, it was definitely not easy to choose this path. I struggled with my self-image for a long time. I focused mainly on the negative aspects and was so perfectionistic that I would dwell on them the most. I found it difficult to highlight my strengths or positive qualities, but I could easily pinpoint my flaws. Over time, I learned to accept myself as I am, and through the pageant experience, I learned to develop self-confidence.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
When I was younger, I really enjoyed dancing and acting. I loved putting on a performance and being in the spotlight. As I got older, this completely shifted, and I became more inclined to prefer being invisible. But if I were given the chance to act now, I would grab it with both hands.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I strongly believe that the role of women in the future will only grow stronger and more powerful, even in societies where they are currently oppressed. The world is slowly but surely changing through awareness, education, and women’s own efforts to increase their rights and opportunities.
Technology, social media, and international movements play a crucial role in making inequality visible and driving change.
In the future, women will continue to contribute to all aspects of society – politics, the economy, science, the arts, and more – and that will strengthen those societies. Equality is not only an issue of justice, but also of progress: societies that support women grow and thrive faster.
To accelerate this change, it’s crucial that both men and women commit to gender equality. Education, economic opportunities, and legislation are essential in this. I believe women will continue to play a key role in creating more just and inclusive societies.
15.- Fabienne, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
I am grateful every day that I am healthy and that I have the freedom to make my own decisions and work towards my ambitions.
With my participation, I stand for mental health, diversity, and the power of unique personalities. I especially want to highlight the issue of negative self-image and the strength of introversion. Did you know that 30% of the population is introverted, but no one really acknowledges it? This happens because introverts often have to step into roles to meet societal norms. I no longer want to step into a role and just want to be myself. My main goal with the pageant is to raise awareness that it’s okay to be different, to break the stigma surrounding mental health, and to promote diversity in personalities.
16.- Fabienne, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I love going on vacation, but I’m not much of a traveler. In 2024, I made my first long-distance trip to Mauritius, and it was a very special experience. I found the contrasts between the luxury resorts and the local population shocking. We need to be aware that we are in a privileged position and have the opportunities and means to travel and explore other cultures. If I’m fortunate enough to travel, I would like to leave something positive behind locally.
