Rebekah is also Youth Services Director and Color Street Stylist managing a Private VIP group on Facebook. Rebekah gives me a fabulous interview.
Welcome Dr. Rebekah W. Slayton!!!
1.- Rebekah, you were born in USA, What do you like about your hometown in USA?
I was born in Athens, Tennessee (USA), but grew up in Murphy, North Carolina (USA). Murphy is a small town nestled in the gorgeous mountains of Western North Carolina. Mountain People are generally kind, generous, and strong-willed. Though I now live in the state of Tennessee, the mountains of North Carolina will always be home.
2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?
I am a Color Street Stylist and manage a private Color Street VIP Group on Facebook. I love the women in my group, and we have evolved into a close-knit support group, rather than a sales group. This group makes me laugh and brings me joy on a daily basis! I also enjoy spending time with my family! I especially love family/friends trips to the Gulf Coast of Florida!
3.- Model , Beauty Queen, Ms. USA Ambassador WUP (World Universal Productions) 2022-2023, Ms Tennessee, When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
I didn’t begin modeling or pageantry until (4) years ago (age 43). I knew I wanted to have a broader audience for my platform/life passion of Juvenile Justice Reform, and so I decided pageantry would be a great way to do that. Since November 2022, when I won my current National Title of Ms. USA Ambassador for World Universal Productions (WUP), I’ve become even more dedicated to my platform, and have really focused on sharing the best parts of myself with others in an effort to BE THE CHANGE that I wish to see in the very broken system of Juvenile Justice.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Rebekah in each activity carried out as a person and model?
I never attempt to do anything in a mediocre fashion. I always strive for excellence in my every endeavor.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
You must be willing to meet people where THEY are. You must be culturally diverse and aware. You should never assume that you know more about someone than even they do, and never ever judge a book by its cover.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
In my professional capacity, I am the Youth Services Director for the Juvenile Court for the county in which I reside. As such, I am keenly aware that I am in the “Public Eye”, and must at all times conduct myself with grace and dignity. It is no different in my pageant/modeling capacity.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
I have never experienced camera-shyness nor stage fright. I welcome the opportunities that come with modeling and pageantry because I believe that in being my true self, I am the difference that I want to see in this world. Confident women should never try to dilute the power that comes with their confidence. To do so is to lessen your influence on those who may need it most!
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social Media is extremely powerful, and when used wisely can be life-changing and enriching. As in all things, however, with great power comes great responsibility. When social media is misused or abused, the consequences can be devastating.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
I strive to share light, love, (and humor when appropriate) through all my social media interactions. There is enough “ugliness” on social media. I choose not to add to, or engage in it. My favorite form of social media is Facebook, and I use it daily.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I would advise anyone of any age to share their talents with others as often as possible, because by doing so, they could literally be world-changers.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
I’ve learned that not all pageants are built the same. You need to know what you value most and find a pageant system that embraces your values. I’ve also learned that inner beauty is vastly more important and valuable than outer beauty.
12.- Rebekah, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
I have always known my own heart, and I have always believed that it shines through no matter how I appear physically. That being the case, I have always enjoyed modeling and have never really experienced obstacles.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
Ironically, I have always wanted to be an actress, and the majority of people who really know me have said that’s exactly what I should be. I’m sure that’s because of my rather gregarious personality and the fact that I’ve never shirked from the spotlight.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
To be fair, I think that other cultures see American Women as fortunate or maybe even lucky because of the strides we have made in seeking equality with our male counterparts. The truth, however, is that we are still struggling to be seen and treated as equal. I long for the day that women (worldwide) are recognized for their tremendous impact on this planet. Women are the mothers of nations, and as such, just as important and worthy as men.
15.- Rebekah, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
I’ve always been motivated to help others, especially children, but since becoming a mother (13) years ago, I have become dedicated to ensuring that I do everything within my power to make this world a better place for my son. I am extremely grateful for the blessing of motherhood. It has made me a better person and a stronger and more determined advocate for others.
16.- Rebekah, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from USA?
I enjoy traveling, and especially to tropical destinations. My dream is to visit The Maldives! I’ve also always wanted to travel to Scotland as that is where many of my ancestors lived originally. For those visiting the USA, I would definitely recommend Old Southern cities such as: Charleston, South Carolina, Wilmington, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, New Orleans, Louisiana, and San Antonio, Texas just to name a few. Also, in my opinion, the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains of the Southern United States are some of the most beautiful places in the USA.
