In this exclusive Perumira Global Talent interview, we delve into the life of Yvonne Kabarokore—her inspirations, her achievements, and her vision for a brighter future for Rwandan women.
1. – Yvonne, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
-Thank you so much for the question, I was born in the Southwest of Rwanda, then moved to the capital City, Kigali where I was raised. I love it a lot . I can point out my favorite things which are: the fresh air and how super clean it is. I enjoy the weather there too.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
◦ I am a genuinely happy person, I laugh a lot at the slightest things. my life motto is that ‘even if you’re not happy, force yourself to be happy’
◦ I enjoy swimming, traveling,reading, movies, writing , going for runs, and I enjoy food. I also like eating out with friends, and dressing up for events.
◦ My favorite thing to do is to put on a good Disney show and just enjoy it in my room. It really relaxes my brain.
3.-International Model, Miss Planet Rwanda 2024 . When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
◦ I was always interested in the modeling world, I mostly did commercial modeling but I do want to taste my limits and go as far as I can. This was my first pageant and I believe it elevated me in so many ways.
◦ I pray everyday about my dreams. It gives me a good feeling that what was just a thought turned into reality, and it really motivates me to do more. It opens me up creatively and I hope one day I can use it to change the life of other passionate girls/women.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Yvonne in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
◦ I’m not a competitive person, with so many girls around who are thriving and doing so well, I wanna look out for them, look out for each other and make sure we are smiling, and I loved how so many other girls felt the same, making sure that your friend is comfortable… I think it is a unique beautiful thing
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
◦ I would say a beautiful heart, a passionate soul and a powerful brain. And of course the love and passion for it.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
◦ Oh wow, to be honest I want to do more for them, because I now realise that hard work pays off. It is really important to me because my life purpose is to help people, so there is no way i would help them without helping myself too, it makes me want to be better, so me being their motivation really motivates me too.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
◦ I felt great!!!! And I know what I have to change and keep, it really did make me feel like this is what I love to do. Seeing so many people when you are on stage and when you’re behind a camera is different but I do love it both.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
◦ I think it is a good platform for people who are looking for a starting point, even worldwide known businesses use it to be bigger, you can do so many things through social media if you are cautious.
◦ It promotes confidence, connects people, and brings the world together… it doesn’t matter where your loved ones are, you feel so close to them which is a beautiful thing.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
◦ My favorite social media is Instagram, we interact through posts, stories and so on. I would say my top three are Instagram, Snapchat and Whatsapp.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
◦ If it doesn’t scare you, then it is not big…the scarier it is then the bigger it will be for you, so you need to go for it.
◦ Well for the parents, I would say they’re just delaying the inevitable, even though they stop the child from following their dreams, the child will just wait until they are grown and they will rebel, it all just creates a bad relationship. support your loved ones because what really matters is their happiness.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
◦ Be a listener , don’t be too quick to anger and always keep your head high. The first supporter you need is yourself, giving up on yourself is not an option and fashion will always be beautiful.
12.- Yvonne, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles?How did you overcome obstacles?
◦ It is an amazing career, and it makes you want to do more with it so the obstacles would be not finding more people to collaborate with, so it requires you to be patient and even more creative than usual, which is good because the openness can take you further and motivate you to create your own fashion, and new ways to keep your career going.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
◦ I am actually an actress. Becoming a model was a second option for me, i started off in the acting career, did plays and performances for so long, and later went to study Theater directing at New International performing arts institute in Berlin, It was eye opening for me because as much as i love directing, i still want to be on stage and act, or even do film which is a dream to me.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
◦ While challenges remain substantial, the combination of education, economic empowerment, legal forms, cultural shifts, global movements, youth engagement, and international support creates a foundation for optimism regarding the future role of women in societies where they currently face abuse.
◦ The trajectory suggests that with sustained effort across multiple fronts- education being paramount- women’s roles will continue to expand positively even within challenging contexts.
15.- Yvonne, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
◦ My motivation is my family, I want to do so much for my sisters and it pushes me everyday, and I definitely feel motivated to be a great help to society, to make a difference in someone’s life.
◦ I am grateful to God, for my health, for my heart, and my patience. I am so grateful for my sisters, my family and my friends, last but not least everyone who roots for me, for those I know and don’t know.
16.- Yvonne, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
◦ I loveeeee to travel. I know a few places like Kenya, China, Ghana, Germany, Belgium, Uganda.
◦ I want to go everywhere. It is my goal to visit all countries of the world, if i could name a few i can’t wait to see : Korea, USA, Canada, Italy, France, Thailand, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Russia and soooo many others.
◦ My country has so many beautiful places, my personal favorites are at: Lake Kivu for the water lovers, Akagera national park for animal lovers, Kigali Memorial site for our history, Volcanoes national park ( has the most beautiful mountain Gorillas) And Inema Art Center for the Art lovers.
