Perumira is honored to introduce Romy Gouw, finalist for Miss Aura Netherlands 2026, a young model whose journey is defined by self-discovery, resilience, and a growing desire to inspire others through her story.
Romy was born in Utrecht and spent her early childhood in Zeist, before her family settled in the peaceful village of Maurik in Gelderland. Surrounded by quiet streets, a close-knit community and the well-known “Eiland van Maurik” campsite, she grew up in an environment where simplicity, family life and personal creativity could flourish. Maurik’s calm atmosphere, local sports options and small-village warmth shaped her into the thoughtful and grounded woman she is today.
Creativity is at the heart of Romy’s personality. She loves drawing, crocheting, dancing and singing—activities that allow her to express herself and cultivate joy. She laughs the most during good movies or fun outings, and she finds true happiness in spending time with her family and keeping herself active and engaged.
Romy entered her first beauty pageant at the age of 17. What began as a path for a shy, insecure girl has grown into a transformational journey toward confidence, empowerment and purpose. Now 21, she views pageantry as a platform that teaches self-acceptance, courage and compassion. Her message to young people is simple yet powerful: you only live once, so do not hold yourself back.
Today, as a Miss Aura Netherlands 2026 finalist, Romy advocates for inner beauty, believing that self-love and self-respect form the foundation of true radiance. She encourages others to embrace vulnerability, honor their experiences and transform their challenges into strength.
For Romy, modeling and pageantry differ yet complement each other: modeling captures visual expression, while beauty pageants amplify one’s voice. Through both, she carries her distinct mark—authenticity, empathy and the courage to simply be herself.

1.- Romy, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. What do you like about your hometown?
I was born in the hospital in Utrecht and lived in Zeist until I was 2. Then we moved to a small village Maurik in the province of Gelderland.
It is a quiet village with its own famous campsite «Eiland van Maurik». We have a supermarket, snack bar and a Greek restaurant here, we have 2 primary schools and enough choice for sports.
2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh or gives you pleasure?
I have quite a lot of hobbies. I like to be creative like drawing and crocheting. And I like to dance and sing
What makes me laugh is a good movie or doing fun things. What I enjoy is doing things with my family and being busy
3.- Finalist of Miss Aura Netherlands 2026. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageant? How do you feel about achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
I started with beauty pageants when i was 17. from a very scared, shy girl I have blossomed in all these years into a confident young woman (I am now 21). I have learned a lot about myself in recent years but also about others, i have learned that you are not alone and that it is okay to be yourself.
I think chasing your dreams is very important and I also say that to the young people around me, you only live once so why let yourself be held back. To be an example to others is of course a great responsibility that i take seriously.
I want to show them that it is okay to have experienced things and that you can turn that into strength, don’t let yourself be held back and do what makes you happy.
As a finalist of Miss Aura Netherlands 2026 I am committed to inner beauty matters. I believe that real beauty comes from the inside. But if you don’t have self-love or self-respect, it’s very difficult to feel beautiful yourself, and you radiate that. That is why I now want to say “don’t be afraid to be yourself, don’t be afraid to love yourself, don’t be afraid to respect yourself. You are you, you are unique and be sweet to yourself” I think if you feel beautiful like how you are inside then you radiate that to the outside and then it doesn’t matter how you look to someone else
4.- What do you think is Romy’s distinctive, unique stamp in every activity you perform as a beauty queen and model?
The difference between beauty pageants and being a model is quite big but also beautiful.
Beauty pageants are about giving a voice and being a voice, you show that we women are more than just beautiful and that we can achieve great things.
5.- What is the most important virtue that every woman must have to be an international model?
What i find important as a miss is that you stay yourself. and that you enjoy what you do.
6.- Are you aware that you are an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to become models? How important is it for you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I am aware that as a miss you are an example for many young girls. I think it is important to show that you can achieve anything if you just believe in yourself.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
First time standing in front of a camera I found it scary and exciting. But the more you do it, the easier it gets.
First time on stage at a final I found it really scary. I do remember that when I was on stage I only heard murmurs and not really words. I was so nervous that I didn’t really consciously stand on stage. But now it’s really going much better, of course being nervous is part of it but it’s about improvement and I really see that myself

8.- What do you think of the power of social media today?
Social media is a big thing in the whole world. it has good things and bad things. The good things are: you can make friends all over the world, you can stay up to date on everything and you can use your voice to be heard on social media.
Bad things: people judge a lot in a negative way, you compare yourself quickly to someone else and can make you insecure.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? What is your favorite social media?
I like to start a conversation with my followers sometimes to see how everyone is doing. I use Instagram the most and I often share things about the pageant but also about who I am and what I love.
10.- What advice would you give to young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What advice would you give to parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I want to tell all those kids that you just have to do it. You only live once and if you don’t you will regret it later. If I hadn’t taken the step to sign up for the first time I would probably still be the scared and shy girl.
I think parents should support their children to chase their dreams and that you should just be there for your child no matter what. If children chase their dreams they can become more self-confident and stronger
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the fashion world and beauty pageants?
That I am stronger than I thought. And that clothes really help you feel better. I noticed that when I started dressing well, that I also felt more confident
12.- Was it easy for Romy to be a model? Were there any obstacles? How did you overcome that?
I found it very difficult to read negative things at first, but eventually I learned to leave it alone and focus on the positive. I got a lot of negative things thrown at me, but also a lot of positive things. I turned things from a negative point into a positive thing, which only made me stronger
13.- Have you thought about becoming an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I love this question. I really wanted to be an actress when i was younger. and to this day I still think about it. If I could I would like to do musicals or movies/series. I love entertainment
14.- Worldwide, women have taken on a greater role, even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion about the role of women in the future in these societies?
Women are stronger than people think and I am sure that we as women can achieve and do more than they think
15.- Romy, what is your motivation and what are you grateful for every day?
I am thankful for my mother and sister who support me with everything. I have seen my idol (taylor swift) in real life with my sister which I am also thankful for.
My motivational quotes are: «No matter what happens in life, be good to people.
Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind» and «Just be yourself, there is no one better»
16.- Romy, Do you like to travel? Which countries do you know? Which other countries would you like to get to know and which places do you recommend visiting from your own country?
Traveling seems like a lot of fun to me, unfortunately I haven’t traveled that much yet but I definitely want to do that in the future. America, Greece, Spain, Austria seem very nice to me.
From the Netherlands I would recommend these places: Efteling (amusement park), Amsterdam, Utrecht, Valkenburg and Texel.
