What makes K-beauty so unique?
How to achieve the perfect K-fashion look?
Which Asian beauty trends will take over next?
Let’s find out all this and more from Hannah Émile herself!
1. Hannah, your content is a paradise for K-beauty lovers! What first sparked your passion for Korean beauty and fashion?
I’ve always used to like and admire the Korean culture for a very long time and since I have started creating content on-line the Beauty and Fashion niches are the ones that I like the most. After a few years in this industry I have learned that the Korean Beauty products are the ones with the most advanced technology, diversity and the best quality for all skin types so I immediately fell in love with them!
2. What do you think makes K-beauty stand out from Western beauty trends?
The K-beauty products are so diversified and most of them won’t irritate your skin! I have extremely sensitive skin ( also acne-prone and oily) and most Western products irritate my skin and just don’t give me the results I was expecting. That usually doesn’t happen with Korean products. The amount of products for sensitive skin which are also good is huge!
3. K-beauty is all about achieving “glass skin.” What’s your ultimate skincare routine for this look?
I always like minimizing my routine as I have such low energy levels on a daily basis so I would definitely recommend a good cleanser which is essential for me like ‘ Arencia Rice Mochi Green Cleanser ’, a toner pad for sure like the ‘ Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad ’ from Skinfood, the ‘ Mixsoon Soondy Centella Asiatica Essence and Mixsoon Glacier Water Hyaluronic Acid Serum ’ and, of course, the ‘ Quadthera V1 ’ which is the Korean beauty device I can’t live without! I generally use with my own moisturizer but the texture needs to be like gel so I normally use the ‘ Numbuzin no. 1 Pantothenic B5 Active Soothing Cream ’ as an example.
There are days that I only use a gel moisturizer and Quadthera’s V1 device, the glass skin effect is really amazing!
4. If someone is new to K-beauty, what are the top 3 must-have products they should start with?
If you have acne-prone, oily and sensitive skin like me you should definitely try:
• the Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad from Skinfood;
• the Numbuzin no. 5+ Glutathione Serum;
• the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics Sunscreen.
5. Asian fashion trends are constantly evolving. What’s the hottest trend right now that you think will dominate globally?
If we’re talking about Korea, the K-pop style and oversized clothing are definitely dominating right now as many people are being inspired by their idols, especially on-line but if we expand our visions, the streetwear style is also very popular in Asia, especially in China.
6. Shein hauls are a huge part of your content. What are your top tips for finding high-quality pieces on Shein?
My tip when buying at SHEIN is finding the partner brand that most fit your style on the app. For example, I love the Korean style so I think ‘ Dazy’s clothes ’ is the perfect fit for me on SHEIN’s app. Besides that, I always take a look at ROMWE, MOTF, CUCCOO, SWIM MOD (Swimwear), GLOWMODE (Gym Wear) and SHEGLAM (makeup), these are all the best quality you can find there.
7. When shopping online, especially for Asian fashion, how do you ensure the fit is perfect?
To be REALLY honest, I’m always afraid that the outfit will not fit on me so to avoid this I always make sure to order one size larger than mine, especially with dresses. Asian clothes are really small comparing to Western clothes so be aware of that when shopping on-line and always search for reviews or just buy a larger size than yours
8. What’s your all-time favorite unboxing experience? Any unforgettable fashion or beauty product discoveries?
Oh, it’s hard to say. I had so many!
Recently I had two beauty unboxings who really impressed me. One was from a brand called Merrymonde, it’s a Korean brand. Everything was so coquette coded, I absolutely love pink. I have tried all their concealers, some of their eyeliners and the cake cushion, it was actually my first time doing a make-up only with concealers. I think the concept and quality is amazing, everything is so cute, I loved it!
The other one was from a brand called Quadthera, it’s also a Korean brand. I have tried their Quadthera’s V1 beauty device. I felt so lucky for having the opportunity to reviewing it and it really changed my skin, I didn’t know it would be so good. I would definitely recommend to everyone, a must have!!!
9. Many people love your style transformations. What’s your go-to outfit formula for an effortlessly chic K-fashion look?
If I would like to be chic I would use a tailored set (neutral colors such as black, nude, brown, white…), a light baby pink purse for sure ( I love pink purses ), a pair of sneakers that fits the look ( I like to be comfy ) and that’s it!
10. What are the biggest misconceptions people have about K-beauty and Asian fashion?
One big discussion that only exist on-line but contributes a lot for hate and/or cyberbullying is the fact that many people suggest that those who creates content related to K-beauty regularly, only use Korean makeup or skincare frequently or like using and/or buying from the Asia Fashion market but aren’t in fact Koreans are being what they called “koreaboo”.
In fact, there are “Koreaboo‘s” on-line and being extremely obsessed with any culture or anything isn’t health. However, the fact that you disseminate information on-line mentioning determined product, style, make-up and/or clothing isn’t wrong.
Please don’t contribute for the hate on-line!
11. Which K-beauty ingredient do you swear by, and why should everyone try it?
Centella Asiatica for sure, there’s no error! If you have sensitive skin, Centella Asiatica is the most recommended.
12. Your tutorials are super detailed and helpful. What’s one makeup hack from Korean beauty culture that changed your game?
Thank you! I think the Aegyosal makeup technique. I still have to practice more for sure but it’s a game changer for me when I started doing Korean makeup trends as I have such big eyes and they actually love people who have big eyes. So by doing the Aegyosal technique your eye looks even bigger, so I love it and I think it’s really cute!
13. Asian accessories can make or break an outfit. What are your top 3 must-have accessories for a trendy K-fashion look?
For daily life cap, hair bands and purses are must haves.
14. If you could only use one K-beauty brand for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
That’s hard!!!!!
Skin1004. Their products are amazing and are safe for sensitive skin. Actually they’re good for everyone!
15. Shein vs. other Asian fashion brands: Which one do you think truly delivers the best style and quality?
There are many amazing companies out there however the one who always delivered the best quality and service until this exact moment was SHEIN. I’ll be looking forward to get to know other services and companies, it would be a pleasure!
16. What’s the most underrated K-beauty product that deserves more hype?
BONABELLA Tea tree Purifying Mask!!!!!!!!!!!!!
17. Fast fashion is often debated. How do you balance affordability and sustainability when shopping for trendy Asian styles?
Truly understand the reason, I’m glad I don’t buy clothes really often! I try prioritizing quality over quantity in order to use my clothes for a longer period of time and to minimize waste.
18. What’s one fashion or beauty trend from Asia that you predict will take over Western markets next?
It’s hard to say but maybe more PDRN based products and certainly those Whipped like cleansers.
19. If you had to create your own K-beauty or fashion line, what would its signature style or product be?
I would probably sign as “ Like Mile”, who knows?
20. For those who want to embrace the K-beauty and Asian fashion lifestyle, what’s your best piece of advice?
Start slow, always be updated on the latest k-beauty trends and products on social medias, watch other people’s reviews so you can have a preview of the product you’ll be buying and/or receiving and have fun!!
