1.- Daphne, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
I was born and raised in the city Weert, Limburg in The Netherlands. What I like about my hometown is that once a year we have one of the biggest fairs of The Netherlands, you wouldn’t expect that because Weert is such a small city. Also in Limburg we have a holiday/party that’s called carnaval, since i was little i really liked it.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
My hobbies are dancing, singing, music gives me a lot of joy. I also like to be creative, coloring or painting. Spending time with my family and friends also gives me a lot of joy and is something I like to do in the daily life. My friends never fail to make me laugh.
3.-International Model, Miss Diversity Netherlands 2024 – Miss Progress MDN 2024. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
When I first decided I wanted to model or compete a pageant was when i was supporting one of my best friends during her pageant, I never really thought of competing myself but when I was at her finals I got really excited. I wanted the same confidence as my best friends, she really inspired me. When I saw the pageant Miss Diversity Netherlands I knew this was the right pageant for me. The feeling that I have for achieving my dreams is a lot of pride, I always was too insecure to follow my dreams because I was scared of what other people would think of me. But when I finally got the confidence to follow my dreams and sharing my story I was very happy and proud of myself. I want to influence other people to do this too and never be ashamed of what you want to do. It feels very strange to be an example for others now, but I am also very grateful for it.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Daphne in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
This is a very good question! But I think everyone as something that makes them unique. And I really like to see that in the pageant/model world. For myself I have Autism, this was also something I used to be insecure about but today I embrace it because it’s the thing that makes me who I am and it makes me special. Everyone should be able to be themselves and be beautiful in their own way
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
As i already said, everyone is beautiful in their own way and I think everyone can model. But i think that these three things are important: confidence, perseverance and motivation. Especially confidence because in my opinion when someone is insecure you can really see it. And to be on stage or something confidence is key!
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
It feels awkward because I’m new to it but I am certainly aware of it and I also want to inspire other girls. That’s the most important thing to me. Because I also used influencers as an example and you notice that this has a major impact on yourself. I hope I can make a positive impact on other girls. During Miss Diversity Netherlands I talked about autism and i received some messages from other people that they can relate to my story and that was something that makes me happy. You can feel really alone because you feel like nobody understands you, so I hope that more people/girls with autism will find me so that we can help each other.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
The first time I modeled for a camera was exciting but I was very nervous. Lucky I got a photographer who made me comfortable and helped me through it. After it I was so happy with the results and felt confident. At the beauty pageant it was of course different. The very first time I was at a casting, I wasn’t chosen as a finalist and I was very sad about it. But I chose to not give up, that’s when I got scouted for Miss Diversity Netherlands! When i became a finalist I couldn’t be happier. This pageant brought me so much and I went through so much growth. When I got the subtitle ‘Miss Progress’ I got a little emotional because growth was my biggest goal during Miss Diversity Netherlands. And winning the main title was absolutely a dream coming true.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
I think social media can have a negative impact but also a positive one. Sometimes we compare our lifes with others and we can get insecure, the hate on social media makes me really mad. And social media is addictive. But I also see a lot of support and love, especially when it comes to mental health. I think it’s important that we share our story’s and help each other out. Social media helps with that. Personally in the past I met some friends through social media, for some people that struggle to make friends in real life they can do it this way. Of course you have to be really careful with it, this can have an negative side too.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
I like it when followers are active on my account with likes or reactions. But what I love the most is when they send me a message and that I can talk to them. That’s why my favorite social media is Instagram, you can make it so personal and share everything that you like! TikTok is also one of my favorites, on this platform I like to spread kindness on my for you page by commenting under random girls, telling her she’s beautiful to boost her confidence a little!
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Be aware of your talents and choose to grow. I always say, practice makes perfect. And don’t care of what other people will think, this can stop you from achieving anything you want! Follow your dreams and they will come true. Hard work pays off. For the parents I want to say, please let your kids do what they want to do. You want them to be happy right? Then you should listen to them. And let them do what they want. It’s your kids life, not yours! The most important thing is to support them in everything thing they do and every choice they make. That’s when your kid can live a happy life for themselves.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
I am new to this world so I have a lot to learn but what i already learned is that everyone is different, I always had this idea in my head of a model and that all of them where the same, but that’s not true. In this way I learned to love myself as I am and that I matter also in the model world. So far I have learned a lot of basic things like photography, social media and my favorite thing to do is the catwalk. I look forward to growing even more and doing lots of fun things.
12.- Daphne, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
No it hasn’t been easy for me. Today I still struggle with my mental health so that’s a obstacle. A lot of times I don’t have the energy because i focus on my personal life and job the most. But I always try to remember that modeling/pageants gives me motivation, energy and joy. For now it is a hobby for me but maybe when i get better, I can put all my energy in modeling!
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I like this question because since i was little i dreamed of being a actress. So i hope one day i will achieve this dream too. I remember when i had a school musical, i got a lot of compliments from teachers for my acting and performance, it’s something i will never forget and gives me confidence for the future. Being in the spotlights is just one of my favorite things to do.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
Well I think that we did a good job to give woman a voice these days. Gender should make no difference. It hurts me to see that in some countries it’s still an issue and that woman have nothing to say. Or that the gouvernement decides for woman. I hope that no matter what happens we will fight for our rights all over the world, because I think we are going in a good direction now. We are all strong woman, we should use our power and fight this together.
15.- Daphne, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
What motivates me is my own mindset and the people around me. I like to make myself proud because it wasn’t always easy for me and people used to tell me that I can’t do anything because of my autism/mental health. I want to show people that nothing stops me and I will always try. Nobody can tell me that I can’t do anything. I see the future very bright for myself and i like to stick on that plan even if it has a lot of struggles. I feel really grateful for my family and friends that will always support me in everything I do. Everyday I’m grateful that I can live this life I have now because it is not self-evident.
16.- Daphne, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
Actually I am a person that likes to stay in my own space, because it scared me a little to be in places I don’t know haha. So a lot of traveling will not be for me. But I like to go on vacation or a little getaway. In January I’m going to Londen and I’m so excited! In The Netherlands of course people will recommend Amsterdam, it’s beautiful but we have so much more to offer in this country. So for example if you want a beach, you can visit scheveningen. I would recommend to go somewhere in Limburg, not because I live there myself but because it is so beautiful because of the nature and mountains.
