1.- Daphne , tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
I’m born and raised in a town called Winterswijk. It’s in the far East of the Netherlands, very close to the German border. I like how everyone kind of knows each other and is always rooting for one another. For example, me participating in the pageantry.
People see my face and recognize me, and are willing to vote for me and support me even though they don’t know me personally. Just me being from ‘their’ town is enough reason for them to support me. And another thing I love a lot about this town, is all the nature we have. It’s easy to get out and go for a hike in the middle of a forest.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I make art! I’ve been doing that for as long as I can remember. It started with some scratches on paper, but after years of practice I’m able to draw realistic portraits! It always helps me to relax and clear out my head.
And what gives me joy are my friends and family. I love spending time with them. Going on (day)trips, going out for a bite and a drink etc. They always know how to make me laugh!
3.-International Model, Miss UniverseGelderland 2025 Finalist. When did you decideto take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
This is actually a funny story haha. Three years ago I signed up for this beauty pageant, but never expected to get an invite for the casting. I eventually moved to the United States for a while and after half a year of living there, I received an invite for the casting.
I was shocked, but also bummed because I couldn’t attend since I was living in the United States. I emailed them to explain my situation, and they told me to sign up again when I would be back. So I did, and now we’re here haha. It makes me feel proud of myself to see how far I’ve already come.
It really shows that if you really want something, you’ll be able to reach it as long as you’re willing to work for it! It’s an amazing experience to be part of a group full of beautiful women and to be able to learn from the best.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Daphne in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I like this question haha. I’m always trying to be myself, and I’m always trying to become the best version of myself and rooting for the people around me to become the best versions of themselves too. I have a lot of perseverance and once I’m setting my mind to something I won’t stop until I reach my goal.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
I think being able to stay true to yourself. No matter how successful you will become, never forget where you came from and who supported you to become the successful women you are today.
If you’re able to stay true to yourself, you will have an authentic look that only you can show.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I’m aware that we as finalists of Miss Universe Gelderland are a rolmodel for many girls and young women and I take this role seriously.
That’s also what I like a lot about being part of this pageantry. Being able to use my voice and appearance to inspire girls and young women to become the best versions of themselves and never stop dreaming. If you can dream it, you can do it.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
I was super excited, but also a little bit nervous. I had no clue what I was doing and if I was doing it correctly haha. But luckily we get a lot of support and guidance from the people around us in team Gelderland.
So that made it easier to feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera!
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
I think, if used correctly, it’s amazing what you can do and accomplish with social media. It’s a fun way to be able to express yourself and reach a big audience. But at the same time I also see a lot of people focusing too much on what they see on social media, and comparing their own lives to what they see online.
Another reason why I think it’s so important to stay true to yourself, and use social media as a fun platform to reach people and show and express who you really are!
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
My favorite social media is Instagram. I like it a lot because you can post so many different things. Photos, videos, stories. I also use it as a platform to get inspired. For example for fashion, art, working out, food etc.
I like to interact with my followers by posting a lot of stories to share my daily life, and by posting pictures or videos on my feed to share what makes me happy!
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I’d advice these young people to take a deep breath and not overthink it too much. The first step is always the scariest, and growing and developing yourself never comes from your comfort zone. You can’t fail, you can only learn.
My question for parents who don’t support their children’s talents is, why not? If your kid is talented and enjoying his or her talent, support them! They can only grow from that, and being a loving and supporting parent never hurt anyone.
You never know what they’re capable of and by supporting them you’re helping them in becoming successful people who aren’t afraid to step out of that comfort zone and develop themselves.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
If I look at the Daphne that came to the casting day, and the Daphne now… I’d say I’ve gained so much more confidence. I feel more free in what I do and say, I’m not afraid of what other people might think because I enjoy what I’m doing and I do what makes me happy.
I’m the only one living my life, so I might as well enjoy it the way I want to. This beauty pageant is so much more than just having a pretty face. We learn so much about ourselves and about supporting each other.
12.- Daphne, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles?How did you overcome obstacles?
Well, to be honest. This is my first time of trying to become a model. When I was younger I wanted to become a model, but I always thought I wasn’t good enough for that. Too tall, not pretty enough etc. But I learned to not focus on what I saw as my flaws, but focus on what I did like about myself and embrace that. It made me more positive about myself and gave me a boost in my confidence.
My mom is always encouraging me to stay positive and always look for the good things. And she is right. Because the young me always thought she wasn’t good enough, and now I’m here as one of the finalists in Miss Universe Gelderland!
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
As a kid we all have dreams haha. But right now I don’t think being an actress is something that would fit me. However, I do like the entertainment industry.
I’ve been a dancer since I was 5 years old, and being on stage always gave me joy. So the entertainment industry is something that I like, but more as a hostess of a show or as a model or something.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I think most women have that caring nature that can help making people feel comfortable and creates balance, as well in a family life as in professional life.
So I’m very glad to see that our role as women is becoming more and more important and that we show that we’re capable of doing great things and that we’re able of being great leaders too.
15.- Daphne, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
The young Daphne who didn’t believe in herself is my motivation every day. But the all the support I get from my family and friends is also helping a lot with that.
I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve gotten so far and that I had the courage to take all these opportunities thanks to the support I got from family and friends.
Without all their encouragement, I probably wouldn’t have taken half of these opportunities and I wouldn’t have been the woman I am today.
16.- Daphne, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I LOVE to travel. I’ve done an internship on Curaçao. I’ve lived in the United States for three years, where I traveled to many different places to get to know the country. And I’ve also been to a few countries in Europe.
But there are still many places on my bucketlist that I want to visit haha. Places that I can recommend from my country are -of course- my home town if you like nature and going for hikes. But one of my favorite places that holds a lot of my childhood memories is Callantsoog. It’s a town at the coast, and the people are super friendly.
The food is good and the beaches are clean. It’s less touristic than the other, well known beaches of the Netherlands. Which I really like about it!
