1.- Cortni, tell me about the city where you were born and raised.,What do you like about your hometown?
I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma but shortly after I was born, my family moved to Alaska! I’ve been fortunate enough to have the privilege of growing up in two different states! All though I don’t have a hometown, I consider myself very blessed to have experienced the childhood I had. I spent a majority of my life in Oklahoma and have moved around a lot and experienced many different parts of the state! I love the diversity of Oklahoma and the history of the state! Theres always something to do and something new coming into the state!
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
My hobbies include reading, writing (I hope to publish my first book in the near future, as I am already a published writer), Rock Climbing, and binge watching Bridgerton with my friends! Something that makes me laugh is my family! My family loves to joke around and have fun! Someone is always acting, choreographing dances and just telling funny stories from their week!
3.-International Model, Miss Regency International 2023. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
I started competing in pageants in 2007! I started competing in a little pageant for young girls in my moms hometown and then switched to larger systems shortly after! I began modeling once I grew older and decided that I wanted to switch from the pageant stage and try my hand at the runway and dabble in print modeling as well! When I think about my life within the pageant and modeling world, I tend to get emotional thinking about all that I have accomplished and how I have grown and changed into the woman I am today because of the industry and all the hard work I put in. Sometimes I’m still shocked that people see me out in public after seeing my pictures on ads since I’m the face of an entire pageant system! People will come up to me because they follow me on social media and its such a surreal experience.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Cortni in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I think something that is my Unique stamp is, bringing a part of me into everything I do. I no longer try to be like anyone else and I strive to show my personality in my walk, my style, the way I talk and the way I model. I want for everything to be uniquely me!
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
Flexibility, Perseverance, and Grace! I truly believe that if you are going to be in the industry, you need to be able to be flexible and roll with any changes that can be thrown your way! Continue to persevere! Many times, you’ll be told no in this industry more than you’ll be told yes! Don’t stop just because one door closes! One of my favorite saying is “When one door closes, try a window”. Continue no matter what happens, and if you feel like you’re continuing to be told it is not your time, then make your own way! And finally, having grace! Give yourself grace when things don’t go your way or as you planned. Give those around you grace, because though they might tell you no, they are just doing their job. Take everything from these shows and pageants as a learning experience!
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I never thought about how I could be influential to young girls until I was older and moms would approach me and tell me things like “My 5 year old loves watching you on stage” or “My daughter is always watching your Instagram stories and tiktoks!” and it finally hit me that I am someone that these girls look up to! I don’t ever want to think of myself as an “idol” but more so a role model for these girls so they can see my journey and think “I can do that too!”. I want my career and my journey to be one of inspiration and for girls to look up to me, so they can learn from my triumphs but also they can learn from my mistakes as well!
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
I was terrified! I tend to get into my head a little bit and was internally freaking out. I tried not to let it show on my face but looking back, you could tell I was scared! My first time competing in a pageant, I was a little nervous because I was 6 and had no idea what I was doing, and I was up in front of a lot of strangers. I used to be so shy but I have definitely grown on out of that!
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social media is such a powerful tool! And, if used correctly, can catapult someone into stardom! I think people forget that our youth turn to social media as an outlet and they find their idols and biggest influences on social media apps! I’ve seen the power that social media has and what it can do. I do think we tend to forget that what we post can make an impact, and that others look up to us. I think someone in the industry always needs to be careful of what the post online, because it can affect your career and if you get hired in this industry.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
I love interacting with people online either through my Instagram stories or on tiktok! I’m always interacting with people and try to make my social media posts fun and colorful and I try to bring life into everything I post! Right now, I would say my favorite app would be Tiktok! That’s the fastest way to find news and trends and see what’s going on in other parts of the world! As someone with a Fashion Degree and someone who LOVES the beauty community, I feel like I am able to see what’s trending and the latest fashion and beauty trends way faster because of Tiktok!
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Keep practicing and perfecting your craft! Even if you feel that you are not ready to take the next step, don’t lose the spark and joy you feel when you perform, even if you’re just performing for yourself! I would advise the parents that although the do not support their child is, allow your child to express themselves and watch them when they work on their talents. Look for that spark that they have when performing. Sit and think about how happy your child looks when showing their talent. Don’t allow yourself to be the reason your child loses their spark and the love of what they are doing.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
There has been so much personal growth in myself since I started in this industry! I have learned how to properly walk, to sit up straight and how to speak with others and how to be in an interview. I have learned how to do my hair and makeup as it suits my features and how to dress for my body type. All the skills I have learned has helped with my appearance, but I have also changed in my character. I have learned how to be myself, first and foremost. I have learned who I am, and what I stand for. I have learned to have a servant’s heart, how to help and uplift others. I have learned how to motivate and inspire others and to encourage those to reach for the stars. I take these lessons from pageants and the fashion industry and I apply them to my everyday life. There is so much one can learn from this industry and I feel like every show and performance gives me something more to learn from.
12.- Cortni, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
Breaking into the industry has not been an easy thing for me. Growing up, I was turned down for jobs while my brother was getting auditions. I would meet with model and talent scouts who said I had an “unusual look” and they usually didn’t have a need for another blonde in their agency. I didn’t get my first break until I was older, after having walking coaches help me with my walk and practicing constantly. I booked 4 shows at NYFW 2020 and before that, I was given the opportunity to do print modeling for a Magazine. Many times when I would get told no, I would just look for another avenue where I could try again. I used the no to propel me to another opportunity.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I love to act and I have taken many acting classes throughout the years. Oklahoma has a growing industry for acting so I feel that in the future, I might be giving the opportunity to act in a movie or even a commercial! I love the entertainment industry and I think anyone can be apart of it! The beauty of the industry is that there’s always something new happening and new talent is always being discovered!
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I think that the role of woman, especially in the year 2024, is rapidly changing and progressing. The role of women in these societies will change. Though right now it seems as though they are not able to be free from where they are and what is happening to them, I think that one day, something will happen that will catapult the role of women and the whole of these societies will change and women will be the ones that are looked to for help and guidance. They will take on the leadership roles and change the structure of those societies in which they live.
15.- Cortni, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My biggest motivation is my dreams and my grandfather. All he has ever wanted for me is to succeed. No matter what I do, my grandfather encourages me to follow my heart and do what I think is going to help me accomplish my dreams. He is my number one supporter and never fails to let me know how proud he is of me. I’m so grateful and blessed to have him in my corner. I thank God everyday for my support system and the people in my life that believe in me.
16.- Cortni, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I love to travel! I have traveled to 16 states here in the US and to Mexico! I plan on traveling all around the world! Next year I plan on visiting Turkey and Greece with my father and later, go to Hawaii with my mother! If I could, I would travel all around the world so I could explore and try the food and see the beauty of the culture and the people in these places! If someone where to travel here to the US, I think the list I gave them would take them a few years to accomplish but the main things I think people must see is the US is: Glacier National Park in Alaska, Hawaii, The Grand Canyon and their national park, Yellowstone National Park, New York City, San Fransisco, the list goes on!
