1. – Zhuldyz , tell me about the city where you were born and raised. What do you like about your hometown?
I was born in a small village Zhympity in Western Kazakhstan with a population of 5000 people till today. It is a humble place with good hearted people. Today the village is struggling with poverty and needs good social projects. I would like to help these people one day.
2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I am a creative individual, I like my artistic lonely hours to spend on my blog, video editing, fashion styling tips, reading and doing tarot readings. Physically, I enjoy hiking with my dog, swimming and gym. I laugh, dance and have fun the most when I’m with my friends.
3.- International Model, Fashionista, Miss Global Kazakhstan 2023. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
I work in the fashion industry 15 years, I tried myself as a fashion designer, stylist and photographer. I know all the ins and outs of this world but stepping in front of a professional camera as a model and pageant queen has been a unique experience that I got to live as the Miss Global Kazakhstan 2023. I would like to unite all my background knowledge, education, experiences and media platforms to promote women’s equality, rights and social justice.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Zhuldyz in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I believe every person is unique by birth. My uniqueness is my Eurasian mentality, international childhood, my creativity and vision. People who know me well tell me that I am bold, open, ironic, honest and fair.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?
Confidence. Becoming a model makes you a subject and an object simultaneously. The fashion industry is competitive, fast and hungry. It is easy to lose your head in the information buzz and speed, in the public opinion, social bullying and etc. You must maintain your confidence to stand still and strong, and love yourself enough to keep your identity.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I am raising a young girl myself. As a mother of a 4 year old daughter, I would like to inspire young women to pursue education, self-improvement, sports and natural beauty.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
The beauty pageant was an eye-opening experience about women, beauty, solidarity and competitiveness. I felt at my best self there.
Being in front of a camera exposed myself to me in a different way. As if it’s my alter ego posing so confident and sexy sometimes. In my daily life, I am quite laid back and natural.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
The digital world oversexualizes women, pushes us towards unattainable ideals, convinces us to chase popularity, fame and likes. In some way, the social media world is crippled. And on the contrary, there are so many good people doing positive change. In general, I want women to be comfortable to be themselves, to follow their dreams and uplift each other.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
The only social media I actively use is Instagram. I am a micro blogger, who recently created a new account. I’ve had a permanent fanbase of 500 followers for the last 15 years. Real 500 people that I work with, create projects, share ideas, communicate regularly and have mutual respect and love for each other. I believe quality matters over quantity.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I have experience of judgement and misunderstanding from others. Those who create will always be judged by those who don’t. It is quite common when you choose your own path and follow your vision. I would advise to the young to be patient with themselves, plant seeds of knowledge in the field of their passion, surely and consistently take steps in the direction of their goal and take advice only from people that inspire them.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
The price of beauty. Sometimes it is not a pretty picture. Sometimes beauty requires too much sacrifice. I admire the willpower, discipline and courage of women who have dedicated their lives to beauty pageants.
12.- Zhuldyz, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
I overcame many personal insecurities by exposing myself to the camera, speaking on stage and in public, writing and expressing my opinions and thoughts online. I became more free, comfortable, confident, more me… during this process.
13.- What inspired you to pursue a career in journalism, and can you share some of your earliest experiences in the field?
‘Word is a weapon and a shield,
words can be poison,
words can make you heal.’
– Zhuldyz Serikbayeva
In the last year of high school, I wrote an article for the school newspaper that later won a national prize. My favorite subjects were always Literature, Russian and English Languages. In the university in Malaysia, I picked up a camera and shot surrealistic images that gained popularity among my friends, later in other cities through social media. I worked as a photographer and writer for many years.
14.- What does being a journalist mean to you, and how has it shaped your perspective on the world around you?
Journalism (writing, storytelling) is one of the oldest professions in the world. Historically, this is how we bond, exchange information and shape our collective consciousness. It is a powerful tool that converts ideas into materia. I want to be a positive influencer, want to inspire, humor and make people think.
15.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
You never know what you are capable of unless you try, right? Yes, I would like to get out of my comfort zone and try something new.
16.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
In Kazakhstan domestic violence has been criminalized only in 2024 because of thousands of women who boycotted and voiced their support. Individually, we are weak. Collectively, we are a force. I believe we can bring justice, law and peace to Kazakhstan and inspire all surrounding societies and countries by leading an example.
17.- Zhuldyz , what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
I feel grateful for all the riches I have like my daughter, family, friends and career. I am proud of the self-progress I’ve made over the last years. I’m grateful for the bad days too, cos I learned my lessons and grew thick skin.
18.- Zhuldyz , Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
Kazakhstan was at the epicenter of the Silk Road network. It became a place of Eurasian fusion, trade and commerce. It is interesting to see how Kazakhstan maintained those qualities to this day. So worth a visit!
I am a classic Kazakh nomad. I have lived in Mozambique, South Africa, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Spain, and have visited dozens of other countries. There are so many beautiful places I still want to visit. The world is the biggest library.
