Sabrina Faruk, Mrs Universe New Zealand 2023 and Mrs Kindness Universe 2023, lights up our pages with her grace and commitment. Originally from Fiji, Sabrina is the first guest from Fiji and New Zealand in our prestigious Perumira magazine.
With a smile that radiates kindness and a passion for service, Sabrina has excelled on the international stage. As an advocate for the fight against domestic violence her influence transcends the catwalk.
In this exclusive interview, we explore her journey through the world of beauty queens. Sabrina shares her experiences as Mrs Universe New Zealand, her charity projects and her vision for a kinder, more compassionate world.

1.- Sabrina, you were born in New Zealand, What do you like about your hometown in New Zealand?
I was born in Fiji, a small island of paradise.
I’v been living in New Zealand ( Aotearoa) for 28 years.
What I like about my hometown New Zealand : I love the unique culture and bond we hold, filled kindness & generosity and the diversity . Aotearoa the land of long white cloud and not to forget its beautiful nature.
2.- What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I love spending time at the beach.
What makes me laugh are my children. Just being a child with my children is priceless. Moments are the best treasure to capture.
3.- Model – Mrs Universe New Zealand 2023 – When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
As a domestic violence survivor, I had decided that we are all worthy.
My dream was always to Model and Act. After surviving such nasty past- I decided that dreams are to be achieved and that is when I took my first step towards being crowned Mrs Universe New Zealand 2023.
I am proud of my achievement & thankful daily. I am extremely dedicated towards making a difference in the community and empowering Vulnerable who are currently facing domestic violence issues. Being a title holder gives me a better platform to reach out and help the vulnerable. That is my focus to make a positive change in the community.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Sabrina in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
My uniqueness is I always believe in remaining humble. Whatever duty I carry in life I carry it with confidence poise and humbleness.
5.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?
To have self-belief and confidence in themselves. Being able to have a positive attitude no matter what the situation is. Its how you always carry yourself.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
It is a big responsibility knowing I am looked up too by many including the young girls.
It is an Honour to be looked up too and to lead our youngsters to ensure they Follow their dreams and achieve what their heart desires.
My message to them “Believe in your worth, beyond your appearance” .
Pursue your dreams with confidence and always prioritize self-respect.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
I loved it. I have always loved the camera.
I believe no matter how confidence or nervous you are- always carry yourself with confidence and that is what I do. I have self-belief and that is my confidence in front of a camera.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social media is a powerful impact both positive and negative. One must be sensible on how they see it and Follow it.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? What’s your favourite social media?
Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I would always advocate youngsters to believing in themselves and embracing the journey.
That every new experience is a chance to learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to give things a try, that you never know what amazing opportunities could be waiting for you.
My Advice to Parents would be to support your child with love and guidance, and Help them understand thar failure is a natural part of learning and growing. Foster a positive environment Where they feel empowered to try new things and purse their passions.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
You develop a sense of self confidence and adaptability. This industry inspires us to think outside the box and approach challenges with a fresh perspective.
12.- Sabrina, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles?How did you overcome obstacles?
I believe nothing in life Is easy but not impossible.
I have tackled obstacles with a positive mindset and plans to ensure I meet my goal as I have set my mind too. I don’t give up, I try harder and harder to ensure I give my 100 percent in whatever I put my heart too.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I have acted, and yes I love it. I have a short film “Love Bite” that has won 10 awards internationally, yet to be released best short film in Geneva, Switzerland – FEB 2024 & Best Short Film in INDIA FEB 20-24
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I myself am a domestic violence survivor, I advocate for woman to believe in their strength and capabilities and to get out off such situation.
Life is valuable and we deserve love and respect. domestic violence is never okay and tolerating it is never a solution.
Woman can play a significant role as advocates of change- by promoting awareness, empowering individuals to speak out and advocating to protect victims .
Woman together can create a society where “domestic violence is not tolerated and survivors receive support they need to heal and thrive».
15.- Sabrina, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My biggest motivation are my “CHILDREN”. I am grateful for each moment in Life, weather good or bad.
It is important to me that I appreciate my achievements and to remain thankful.
16.- Sabrina, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from NZ?
Yes, I quite enjoy travelling. I have been to Manila Philippines – to compete in Mrs Universe 2023.
I have recently travelled to New York as a showstopper for American Fashion Designer at NYFW- Designer: Marc Defang.
Countries I would love to visit in future : Italy, Dubai, Greece.
