Some stories aren’t told from a place of perfection, but of courage… and this is one of them.
Today, at Perumira, we make room for the essence of Katherine García, a Colombian living in the United States, a model and beauty queen, but above all, a woman who has learned to rebuild herself without giving up on what she dreams of.
Her path has not been a straight line. Like many real women, Katherine had to put her own dreams on pause to take on one of life’s biggest roles: becoming a mother. And even so, she never let that pause become a full stop. Over time, she turned her fears into momentum, her doubts into decisions and her limits into new beginnings.
Behind every runway, every photograph and every achievement lies a story of discipline, self-love and unshakable faith. Katherine doesn’t just represent beauty; she represents evolution, courage and purpose. She is living proof that what matters is not when you begin, but the strength with which you decide to keep going.
Today we are not just introducing a queen… we are introducing a woman who is writing her own story, without molds, without permission and without fear.
Because when a woman dares to believe in herself, everything around her begins to transform.
Welcome to her story.

1.- Katherine, thank you so much for accepting our invitation. A native of Colombia, what is it that you have always loved about the city where you were born and raised?
Hello, and thank you so much for the invitation.
I was born in a small but beautiful town called Salgar, Antioquia, known as the little golden corner of Antioquia. I miss my homeland very much. I remember the beauty of its mountains and the delicious aroma of coffee. What I love most about it is the people. It’s a town of hardworking, determined people, a community that has always supported one another and worked shoulder to shoulder; solidarity comes before everything. If you’re a tourist and you’re lost (believe me, you’re safe), there will always be someone from Salgar ready to help you with a smile from ear to ear.
What are the lifelong hobbies that Katherine still keeps up and can’t give up?
Listening to music. In my house, the day starts with good music.
Doesn’t it happen to some of you that it’s impossible to clean without being in the mood for a good bachata or salsa?
Well, Katherine can relate.
What makes you smile or gives you great joy?
Two things:
My daughter and reaching a goal. Nothing is more satisfying than achieving something I fought and worked like crazy for.
But the two combined are absolute happiness.
Hearing my daughter say to me: “Wow, Mami, you did it, I’m so proud of you, you’re my role model,” is the most beautiful feeling in the world. Those of you who are mothers will understand me.
2.- How did Katherine decide to take her first steps into the world of modeling and pageantry?
Like any good Latina, I grew up watching Miss Universo and dreamed of being on a runway someday. I became a mother very young and that delayed my dream a little, but it never erased it from my being.
I’m very short, I’m 1.55, and I saw it as something impossible, because that’s how society wants to define it, and you simply can’t belong when you don’t meet certain standards. But, thank God, that is changing. Our Reina Latina gives us the opportunity to show that there are no stereotypes and that a woman’s beauty doesn’t lie in her height or in “perfect measurements.”
What feelings come with doing what you love, what you’re passionate about? Is it easy?
Love, without a doubt, is the first feeling that comes to my mind right now.
I’ve always been passionate about everything related to beauty. I import Colombian beauty products into the United States; I’m also an esthetician and a laser technician. And I do each of these things with love, because I adore them. The only way to do a good job is by loving what you do!
Of course it’s not easy. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. You who are reading me right now, believe me: it’s not easy, but it will be worth it.

3.- Katherine, are you aware of your growth as a person, model and beauty queen? Are you becoming more of an influencer and opinion leader every day, especially for younger people? How do you handle this?
I am aware of it. I want to be a source of inspiration, so that people who, for whatever reason, haven’t started that journey toward their dreams understand that there are no limits, that no matter your age or circumstances, you can always find a way, whether it’s in a beauty pageant, in a career, that dream trip, starting a family, or that business you keep doubting whether to start.
As I told you earlier, I became a mother very young. Although it was very hard, I’m not ashamed of it; thanks to it I’m the woman I am today. I started building my dreams in my adult life, because being such a young mother meant I had to put my life on “standby.”
But here I am, being a mom, a businesswoman, an esthetician, a laser technician, wearing a crown as a Latin ambassador queen and, believe me, many more achievements will come.
I want you to understand that there are no silly dreams, only fools who are afraid to fulfill their dreams.
How do you like to interact with the followers who join you?
I believe that in every act, no matter how small, there is a lesson. It happened to me a few months ago when I decided to change my look: cut my hair and change the color.
I wanted to ask my followers what they thought; most of them said not to do it, that I was crazy, because my hair was below my hips. I cut it and the change was incredibly positive. I remember that day I talked about how human beings are so afraid of change; something as insignificant as hair (which will grow back in a matter of months), yet everyone saw it as madness.
Then I talked about letting go in order to transcend, to evolve, and one of my followers wrote to me saying: “You have no idea how much I needed this message. I want to start a business, but I’m afraid, afraid of change and of what might happen. But your message reached me for a reason and I’ll do it, I’ll let go of my fear.”
And that’s how I want to interact: I want to leave a positive message with each person who watches me.
What is your favorite social network?
I’m an Instagram girl. My daughter is trying to bring me up to date and get me to use TikTok, so that’s where we’re headed, hahaha.

4.- What do you think is Katherine’s distinctive, unique trademark in everything she does as a person and a model?
My energy. When I was a candidate in the Nuestra Reina Latina pageant, I remember all the girls telling me: “We thought you were conceited and unfriendly,” because I only replied to the WhatsApp group messages when strictly necessary, “but you’re actually a sweetheart, you’re a ray of sunshine, fun and very friendly.”
And that’s because my energy vibrates very high, and I’m drawn to energy when I can sense it.
For me it’s a little hard to connect through a screen when it comes to relationships. I value this the old-school way: face to face.
5.- What values, care and habits are necessary to adopt in order to be a model?
Discipline in every aspect. Believe me, I’m still working on this. It’s not easy, but you know the phrase I told you earlier: nothing worthwhile is.
Perseverance, and I identify with this 100 %. I’m a woman who doesn’t give up. A thousand doors will close on you and you’ll cry and say: why? Is this not for me? But will you stay there crying?
Believe me, someday the right door will open. I’m a firm believer that God doesn’t give you the path you want, but the one you need; but to find your path you can’t give up.
Understanding that it’s not just the body, that you also have to train your mind and soul; that each one requires care and proper nourishment. Being able to take part in the Nuestra Reina Latina beauty pageant was a beautiful experience, because on the road to the crown, while I was preparing, I learned so many things, I evolved as a person and grew as a woman.
Love, without a doubt, one of the most important.

6.- How did it feel the first time you modeled in front of a photo camera and a video camera?
Since I was a little girl I’ve been happy posing for photos, I think it’s just in me, so it feels natural and I love it.
What did you feel the first time you were in a beauty pageant?
I think nerves and fear are inevitable, but you decide what you want to turn those feelings into. When I learned to master them, it was like a state of fulfillment: I was in my element, I was born for this! And then everything flows. The key is managing your breathing!
7.- Katherine, would you like to venture at some stage of your life into the entertainment industry, such as TV, radio, or perhaps something more focused on acting, film or theater? Have you always been outgoing?
Acting, without a doubt, I would love it. I’m aware it would take a lot of work, but it’s not impossible and it’s a long-term goal. For now, I have a dream I want to fulfill and that is to travel; that will be my priority for quite some time.
I’ve always been outgoing, I love a social life, meeting new people, although, as I said earlier, my energy vibrates very high and I look for the same.
8.- Katherine, what do you think of the power that social media and new technologies have?
I think it’s positive, as long as it’s used properly. We are the ones who have to make it worthwhile and make sure it’s used the right way, responsibly, to do good and not harm, to bring us closer and not push us apart.
The most important thing is to understand that everything we see on social media is not real: there are no perfect bodies, there are no perfect lives, and that is something we have to teach our teenagers.

9.- What would you say to parents who don’t support their children’s talent?
A happy child is an adult with confidence and good mental health, and nothing makes a child happier than being able to fulfill their dreams.
Parents: a busy mind has no time to think about silly things.
Why not let your child invest their free time in something healthy that they love?
What advice would you give to young people who have the talent and the ability but don’t dare to take the next step?
What’s the worst that can happen to you? That they tell you no? And then let that motivate you to improve so that you hear that “yes” you want so badly.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Shakira, that woman who today fills stadiums and shouts: “Women no longer cry, women make money.” She was rejected as a child by the school choir; according to her music teacher, her voice was strange and sounded like a goat.
Believe me, someday you will make it, but if you don’t try, you’ll never know.
Nothing is impossible, the limit is only in your head.
10.- What lesson does all this experience in a world full of glamour, designs and beauty leave you with each day, as a person, as a human being?
That true glamour isn’t in what shines on the outside, but in what you cultivate within yourself every day. You come to appreciate beauty in a different way, not the physical kind, because that is fleeting and easy to find, but energy and purpose, since those last.
You learn that you don’t depend on what people call beauty to feel valuable, putting real human connection above a fleeting image. Keeping your natural essence and human warmth is the most important thing, without trying to fit into the standards that society dictates.

11.- What is your opinion of women’s empowerment in recent years, with women reaching top positions all over the world? How can this situation be improved?
Without a doubt, times have changed. It’s now common to see women taking on roles that could previously only be held by men, and the truth is that human beings have evolved in general.
It’s beautiful to see empowered women, because with confidence, nothing is too big for us.
But the most important thing is to understand that this is not a competition over which gender has more power. We complement each other, and I believe that when we work with love and unity, much more can be achieved.
12.- Katherine, what motivates you and why do you feel grateful every day?
My greatest motivation will always be my daughter, even though this answer sounds very cliché, because I’m sure every mother would answer this way. My motivation is not only to work so that she is well, but so that I am too, and in that way be her greatest example that nothing is impossible.
I feel very grateful for life. I consider myself a very passionate person, and the mere fact of waking up each day is already a miracle. The rest comes on its own, little by little.

13.- Do you like to travel? Which countries have you already visited? Which other countries would you like to see, and which places do you recommend visiting in Colombia, your native country, and in the USA?
Oh, wow, this question really is 100 % me.
My biggest dream is to travel the world. I became a mother very young and dedicated most of my life to being a mom, and although a mother’s work never ends, it does change in some way once the children come of age. So, even though I haven’t traveled yet, I have a list that, without a doubt, I’ll be checking off very soon.
I’ve never talked about this list before. I made it a couple of years ago as a plan for the future.
Some of the countries on it are:
Switzerland – Lake Geneva
Jordan – the Rose City (Petra)
Australia – Uluru
Greece – Santorini
Turkey – Istanbul
Hahaha, I could stay here all day, the list is long.
The places I would recommend without a doubt from my beautiful country:
Guatapé, Antioquia – the Piedra del Peñol
Salento, Quindío – Cocora Valley
La Macarena, Meta – Caño Cristales
Cartagena – the Walled City
From the United States, my favorite places:
Wyoming – Jackson Hole
Arizona – the Grand Canyon

14.- How about we play a little ping-pong? I’ll say some words and you tell me the first thing that comes to mind, deal?
Marriage – Loyalty
Abortion – Decision
Best movie – Legally Blonde
The worst – Birdemic
Children – Love
Dancing – Happiness
Singing – Anti-stress
Machismo – Equality
Politics – Unity
Favorite food – Lamb
Character – Strength
Percentage of craziness – 99.9 %
Great love – My daughter
15.- These lines are yours, Katherine. Thank you so very much.
Thank you so much, Perumira, for this lovely space. It has been an honor to show who I am beyond a crown and to share a little of my roots, my story and what I carry in my heart.
