1.- Jessica, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
I am born in a small town in the northern part of the Netherlands, Hurdegaryp. In 2000 I was born in this town there I lived for 20 years. It’s a small town that grew bigger by the years, with two primary schools, and even a secondary school. This town is a “in Dutch ons-kent-ons” (everyone basically knows each other). This town is still a place to feel like home when I am with my parents.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
In my free time I like to go to stay healthy in the gym, further I have a lot of books at home haha, I think currently it is around 60? You can say that reading is a relaxing activity for me. Something that makes me laugh a lot are happy children, because of my work, and because children are the sunshine. Furthermore I like dancing, and being around my friends.
3.- Beauty Queen . When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
It has been an honor that I had the opportunity to represent my country during an international pageant. In 2023 I had the titels of “Miss Grand Sea Netherlands 2023”, “2nd runner up Miss Grans Sea World 2023”, Miss Face of Liquid Beauty 2023.
In 2022 I decided to first enter the pageantry world. I didn’t have a lot of self-confidence and with the pageantry I had the idea to get more confidence.
Currently I have a lot of dreams that are not accomplished yet. Currently I am busy with giving the next generation (the younger kids) the idea that they can achieve everything that they want to be. During the last 3 pageant where I went watching for my friends, I had the option to give away little crowns to the children that are visiting the pageants. At this time, I could give away 15! Crowns and therefore had the possibility to let the children shine.
I don’t have the idea that I am being seen as an influencer, but I want to be a role model for the next generation.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Jessica in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
During my activities I am close to myself. Even when I am in full glamour you can still see me as me!
5.- What’s is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?
Dedication is the key! When you have a goal, you can achieve it. If something is not going as how you want it to be, don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. There are always a lot of people that would love to help you achieve your goals.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
Currently I am being more and more aware of the influence that I am showing. That is for me the reason that a few years ago I knew that I had to change. To change for myself, because I wanted to be a good role model, someone that the next generation can look up to. For me it is important to be a role model, just to show everyone that no dream is too big to achieve.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
The first time in front of a camera it was so scared. I had no idea what to do, and how to pose and be confident. During practice it got better and better, but I am still laughing about the first few times. Remember it is not always going easy in the beginning, working for your goal is imortant.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social media is extremely big and very influential in daily life. It is important to know that social media is not everything, and most of the time only the good parts are being showed. However, during the time of social media, it is amazing to see what time of influence social media can give. It is easier to share goals, and advocacies during social media, and making an influence can be on a larger scale.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? What’s your favorite social media?
With my followers I try to interact with them by replying on their comments, and y posting questions on my Instagram story. At last, everyone has the option to send me a message and 90% of the time I will reply. (The other 10% I won’t see, but I am not sure why).
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
When I was a young child, I was always afraid to actually go for my goals and for the things I was interested in. In that way, I never achieved my goal/my talent, because I was too afraid of what other people would think. Within the years I have learned that it doesn’t matter what you are doing. There are always people that will judge you, and they will make fun of you. And that is not your fault, or your problem. It is important that you are happy, and if following your talent is making you happy than that’s the thing you should do. I am aware that people can be rude, and that they hurt feelings. That is the most difficult thing about following your dreams, even as a child with new dreams every week. But do what makes you happy, that is the best advice I can give.
And for the parents, I know, it can be difficult if your kid has a weekly different dream or a talent that can cost a lot of money. But even if you don’t support everything that they want to do, listen to your kids. It’s important to not destroy they dreams, or their knowledge that they have a talent. You don’t have to support everything they do, because that is sometimes impossible at all. But listen to them, when they want to share new information with you, and just listen don’t be negative. It’s okay to not always respond in a positive way, neutral is totally fine. But negativity from your own parents can destroy a child with dreams and hope. It can take months or even years before this kid dares to dream again and to share exiting information.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
The most important lesson that I learned, it that I need to do it for me. If I want to change who I am, it’s important that I want to change for the better, and not because other people want me to change. During the pageantry I learned that I absolutely adore speaking in public, and definitely for matters that are important. I like to see children smile and give them hope. From the world of fashion, I learned that not every style is my vibe. Even if I just need to wear what I want, not every clothing style suits me, and that is okay. Furthermore, I learned that I am absolutely in love with vintage clothes, I like reusing clothes that other bought and sold again. Reusing “fast-fashion” is one of my favourite things.
12.- Jessica, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
Well, I don’t see myself as a model. I do see myself as a pageant queen, but within this industry being on photo’s is a part of the total package. It hasn’t been easy, I was NOT comfortable behind the camera, but over time and practice I did enjoy this times. It is still not always easy to stand behind a camera, but with practice and more confidence it is getting easier every time.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
When I was younger I wanted to be an actress, but the moment I knew how much text you need to remember it was already over for me. I do work in the hospitality industry, whereby a bit of acting is necessary sometimes, and I enjoy this however I would not want to make my fulltime job out of it.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
In many parts of the world, women have made significant strides towards equality and empowerment. However, it is undeniable that in some societies, women still face severe challenges and abuse. My hope for the future is that these challenges will be addressed with increasing urgency and compassion. Women are integral to the progress and development of any society, and their well-being and empowerment are crucial for the advancement of global human rights and prosperity.
The future role of women in these societies hinges on a combination of increased advocacy, education, and systemic change. Global awareness and pressure can drive reforms, while local efforts and grassroots movements are essential for enacting tangible change. It’s important for international communities, governments, and organisations to support and collaborate with local activists and leaders working towards gender equality.
While predicting the future is challenging, I remain optimistic that through collective efforts and continued advocacy, women in all societies will gain the rights and respect they deserve. The empowerment of women not only benefits them individually but also contributes to the overall progress and stability of societies. As we work towards a future where every woman can live free from abuse and discrimination, it is crucial to remain vigilant, supportive, and hopeful.
15.- Jessica, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation comes from the privilege of being able to attend university and the opportunity it provides me to make a positive impact in the lives of others. I am deeply aware of the advantages I have, and I am determined to use these opportunities to contribute to the betterment of society. Each day, I feel grateful for the education I am receiving, the support of those around me, and the chance to grow both personally and professionally. I am thankful for the ability to pursue my goals and for the potential to create meaningful change in the world.
16.- Jessica, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
Yes, I absolutely adore travelling. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting 22 countries so far, and my goal is to see all 196 countries in the world. I’m deeply interested in learning about different cultures and understanding the diverse ways of life around the globe. Colombia and Cuba are high on my bucket list because their cultures are so distinct from those of the Netherlands, and I’m excited to experience that contrast firsthand.
