1.- Shantae, tell me about the city where you were born and raised.,What do you like about your hometown?

I was born and raised in ST. Catherine Jamaica, in a town called Portmore. I lived between the coastal beaches and the inland hills. My favorite thing about my hometown is the closeness of the community I had growing up

2.- What are your hobbies?  what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?

I love to sing and read, and i love doing anything that keeps me active. Spending time with my family has always been joyful for me. We all have big personalities, so there is never a dull moment.

3.- International Model, Miss Petite Canada ‘24 – Miss Personality Western Canada ‘23.  When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?

I competed in my first pageant in Jamaica when I was four years old. It was suggested to my mom by my kindergarten teacher that I enter the pageant, then she trained me every day after school leading up to it.

Being a recognized role model is a beautiful thing, and its very empowering to be seen this way. I approach this position humbly, knowing that without consistent hard work, and the support of my community I would not have made it this far.

4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Shantae in each activity carried out as a  beauty queen and model?

I believe my trademark in everything I do is my passion. I am often described as an empath, and I believe this trait has allowed me to become passionately invested in what I do. All my actions have the potential to make a positive impact on someone, so I live with that in mind every day.

5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?

A very important virtue as someone who is internationally recognized is compassion. You are in a position where you encounter many different people, and your smile, kind words, or act of kindness could make a world of difference for someone. Even if it’s just a shared moment.

6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

Honestly, I do not think very often about the number of girls I impact but when I do, it feels like a Superbowl kind of moment. It’s really an honor to be a role model, and it is something I have wanted since I started pageantry. In all that I do, the most important thing is that I stay true to my core values because I want to be an example of the true meaning of ‘just be yourself.’

7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

Being in front of a camera, for me, is only nerve-wracking if I think about the camera or who might be watching. In my first pageant I just focused on being a ‘WOW’ factor on-stage. I love pageantry so when I am in the spotlight, it feels natural.

8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?

Social media is one of the most powerful tools one can have. Your life can change overnight, you can create and grow your own community or even start a movement. It can be a tool for positive change, but only if used in such a way.

9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?

I love talking to my followers. They are my online community and i like to think I am in some way a part of theirs as well. My favorite platform is most definitely Instagram. There’s is so much to explore there. I am always learning.

10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

After being bullied I became that person. I was terrified of coming out of my shell, so I stayed in it. My advice is to build your self-confidence without the noise of those around you so that when you are ready to emerge, nothing can stop you.

For the parents, your support matters more than you know. Even if you don’t support what your child is doing, encourage them to take risks and reassure them that you are there to catch them when they fall.

11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?

The biggest lesson I have learned is that our insecurities are the things that make us unique, and when we are proud of our uniqueness, our light shines brighter. I learned that a confident smile, and pure, genuine heart are priceless.

12.- Shantae, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?

Modeling as a black woman has not been easy. In addition to my skin color, I am curvy and petite, which in the traditional modeling industry are all red flags. I overcame these obstacles because I refused to believe the standards of society. I created my own. I live by them, embrace them, and break barriers with them.

13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?

I auditioned to be an actress when I was 12 years old, but I was denied. According to the director I just wasn’t ready. Since then, I focused on school have not revisited the idea. I don’t have much experience with the entertainment industry otherwise.

14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

History has showed us over and over that women have the power to change the most stubborn of societies. I know that when we collectively decide ‘enough is enough,’ we are unstoppable. I have great hope for these future women and look forward to supporting their movements.

15.- Shantae, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

I am motivated by the desire to be a change in my community. I am grateful that I was raised by a strong woman. My mother is one of my biggest role models. Her intent dedication to motherhood has shaped me into who I am today.

16.- Shantae, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?

I love traveling. My very first flight happened when I was nine years old. So far, I have been to the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Canada. Chile is at the very top of my travel bucket list. If anyone tells me they are travelling to Jamaica I always recommend visiting Kingston. There is so much life in that city and visible records of the island’s history.
