1.- Krysta, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. What do you like about your hometown?

I was born and raised in the Hunter Valley, which is a Country area within NSW Australia. The Hunter Valley is known for its wine and farmlands, but over the years has started to become more developed with many people from Sydney NSW relocating to this area.

I like that the Hunter Valley is a beautiful area to live in that is community orientated. The LGA (Local government area) that I live in (Kurri Kurri), often reminds me of ‘Gilmore Girls’ (TV series). They always have local fairs or community events running and I love attending them all with my friends and family. The events run every year and are now so well known, thousands of people attend them. I also like the fact that I am very close to other places we all like to go to, like the beaches or shops.

2.- What are your hobbies?  What makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?

Social media is a good hobbie of mine. I say this is a hobbie as I am not a full-time social media influencer/content creator and don’t earn enough here in Australia for it to be considered as anything more. I work full time outside of this and find that social media, modelling, and content creating makes me feel good and I have a lot of fun doing it. Personally, I think I would lose my passion or love for it if I was doing this full-time but maybe one day.

I have a few creative teams here in the Newcastle LGA (NSW, Australia) that I love to work with (Renee Hibbert and Stephen Mark). We create so many amazing photos which are more complex, and art based then people would think. I am always so proud of the images we create.

3.- International Model, Ms Galaxy Australia National Finalist 24. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?

I decided to take my first step towards this goal back in 2018, which is crazy to say as that was 6 years ago. They both come hand in hand, modelling, and pageantry, but pageantry came first. In relation to Australia Galaxy Pageants, I found this system quite early on in 2020 but have develop a close bond with this stream in 2022 and some of my closet friends have come from this system.

In relation the feelings I have about achieving my dreams, passions and being a recognized female influencer. I have to say I am grateful; I remember how hard it was growing up being bullied and feeling like no one would ever think anything of me. I am grateful for the help and support of a lot of people, that I was able to overcome the negative views of myself and rise to a place of confidence and self-love that others are attracted to and want to have/be like.

4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Krysta in each activity carried out as a Beauty Queen and model?

Working with disadvantage families here in Australia and travelling overseas completing missionary work in countries where they are not as privilege as myself. I have had the opportunity to learn that not everyone has the same opportunities as people like me and I do not take this lightly.

As a beauty queen and model, I believe this makes me unique as I feel I have a stronger understanding on the challenges families and young people face today than most. Which is important when representing a pageant, particularly Australia Galaxy Pageants who is very Charity and Community based.

5.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?

Confidence. You can be ‘pretty’ or have the ‘right look’ but at the end of the day if you cannot convince a room of people you are auditioning for that you should be on that runway in their clothes, then you won’t be.

Of course, you also need to have the right skill, but having confidence and owning that stage is important. Remember, you are the coat hanger for the clothes when modelling, if people don’t feel that the model feels confident in wearing the clothes, then this could be perceived by the audience that it is the outfit that is making them feel that way. This then could result in that design not doing as well marketing wise for the designer. Bringing it back to why they might not hire you if you lack confidence.

6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

I am always very conscious about this fact, and I am very mindful about the type of things I post on my page because of it. Women today have so many standards they are trying to live up to and I want people to feel positive when visiting my social media page or when learning about what I do.

My goal since I started to become an influencer has always been to promote self-confidence, self-love, happiness, friendship, and community, and while I talk about brands I collaborate with, places I go to or clothes I wear. I always make sure these are brands I work with, places I go to, or clothes I wear, are programs/ companies I believe in and or would be accessible to my audience if wanting to get it for themselves.

How young girls view themselves when visiting my social media is important and it is something I continue to work on each day. I think it is something we should all be thinking about as an influencer and continuing to improve on each day.

7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

I love being behind a camera! It is the coolest experience, and I cannot wait for my next opportunity. I have been in a music video, been in a short film and an extra on a movie and each time I loved it.

In relation to your question about Beauty pageants, I felt overwhelmed to be honest. It is a lot to learn and get your head around in a short period of time. If you have not done anything like it before (and if you were or are like me) and go into your first pageant without doing a lot of research. You feel like a fish out of water, but now, I love it and think it is something every girl should do.

8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?

It is scary!! Since COVID, social media has taken to all new levels of hate. People are very quick to say negative things about people and often struggle to find kind words. I think this could create a very toxic place for a lot of people in relation to their mental health and a place where people are often scared to have a voice.

However, while I say this, I have also seen it do some amazing things.

Tiktok (while apparently one of the governments most hated app around the world), has created a society of loyal followers and supporters for a lot of families in need around the world. Lots of people want to help others and it has been amazing to witness when used in the right way. People have also been able to make big changes, like Pairs Hilton on the “trouble teen reform” and have also been able to shed a light on unsung heroes.

I just think is it worth your mental health? The ‘fame’ as such? I personally think from my own experience and listening to others. If this is your goal, it is very Important to protect your mental health and have things in place to help you manage the negativity that also come with the power of social media.  It can do great things, but it also takes a lot away from you at the same time.

9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?

I like TikTok and Instagram and I interact with followers in many ways. I will often try to respond to messages sent and comments made. I also love to share things with them within my stories and in both stories and post will ask people for their views on topics of certain things.

10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

Just do it!

I learnt an important piece of information when reading a book called ‘Brave’ to a class of 5-year-olds, ‘In order to be Brave, you must be a little Scared first’. Being scared or fearful you won’t do well is natural, and human, however the only way you are ever going to be sure is by just giving it a go.

To parents, you are your children’s first teacher, their role model, and the people they trust the most. While you have every right to choose to support or not support your children’s talents or dreams. I think it is important to think about the long-term impacts of not supporting it, if that is what you choose to do.

My advice to a parent who is not supporting your child’s/ren’s talent would to be ask yourself why and to challenge your own bias before making your finial decision. If your child/rens talent are something they are very passionate about they are mostly not going to stop because you said no.

11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?

Try not to take everything to heart! This industry can be hard as there is still a large part of it that focuses on your ‘looks or your ‘aesthetic’. When you receive negative feedback about them or not getting a job as you ‘don’t have the right look’. Coming back from rejection can be tricky to navigate and can be consuming if you let it be.

Being confident in who you are and strong in “your brand” is key to staying positive and working through moments when negativity hits.

12.- Krysta, would you say being a model has been easy? Were there any obstacles? If so, how did you overcome obstacles?

As Modelling is not my full-time job, now it is easy and fun. I get to choose the jobs I want to apply for or go to if invited, and attend modelling events that are fun and more meaningful. I get to work with the teams I love and be as creative as I want.

In relation to obstacles, yeah some! Most of the events are in Sydney which is 2.5hrs away from where I live, I spend more time travelling than I do modelling when this is the case.

There was a period in 2019/20 where I was talking my modelling career more seriously and was considering looking into doing this full-time. However, because the jobs were in Sydney and so far away, I personally started to resent it because I would drive so long and be so exhausted before I even got there. However, now I love it and don’t mind going to Sydney here and there, but I am a lot more picker in the events I go to.

13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?

Oh yes!I would love to be an actor, like many others! I am told I was born to be a star! Haha, I often get told I am very good at telling stories and have a likeable personality. I have done a little bit of acting in my time, which has been fun! I would love the opportunity to do more.

14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

I am hopeful that as a society we will be kinder and more understanding to women who have been victims of abuse, no matter what background they come from. We still often hold women accountable for the actions of their abuser and fail to see how habits formed while in a domestic violent relationship (such as drinking) is an act of resistance, instead of part of the problem.

As a governing body of power in these countries, including my own, I am hopeful that they will take the time to listen to women who are victims to understand how they can better support them, and do more to hold men accountable for their action’s. We do not have enough service that are funded to hold men accountable for their use of violence which makes it challenging to support them to make change and prevent future violence from taking place.

I am hopeful that we collectively will start to see this as a more pressing issue and do more about it.

15.- Krysta , what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

My motivation is my foster child Jessie, he is everything to me and I want to show him that he can do anything he sets his mind to. Together we have created so many memories and I am grateful that he has come into my life.

16.- Krysta , Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?

Do I love to travel? Yes I love to travel, I wish I could do it more. I have been to Zanzibar (Africa), Cambodia, Fiji and traveled into different states in Australia.

I would love to visit Europe, Italy, and Greece. These are on my bucket list, but so is Scotland and Irland haha

I loved Zanzibar, it is known as the Hawaii of Africa, and it was stunning! All I can say is google it, you will see!
