Ariwanders

1.- Ari, you were born in the United States ,What do you like about your hometown? What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to ask questions. I am passionate about people and adventure and there is nothing I love more than to encounter and share.

I was born in Cincinnati Ohio, USA. I have a huge number of passions. I love to travel, sing, paint, design, draw, dance, and hike. I am endlessly curious and always want to be learning. I love to spend my time with people and with God. They give me the most joy in life. Nothing better than laughing with those you love!

2.- English teacher in South Korea and Travel Vlogger How does Ari decide to travel to South Korea? Have you always liked Korea? Do you have fun? What is your feeling of doing each day what you are passionate about, teaching and traveling?

Now that is an interesting story. My family as a whole is not known for traveling genes. Our ancestors moved to Ohio 5 generations ago and we are all still pretty much in the same place all these years later! I traveled with my family often as a child within the US usually by car…. All five of us in one car!

I did have one aunt who traveled internationally all of the time. As a graduation gift from high school she took me to Italy. I was the first time I had been on a plane, or left the country, and it let me know what was available to me.

In university there was a great opportunity to do a study abroad in South Korea. So, my last semester of school I went to Handong Global University in Pohang, South Korea for four months, to study, well mostly travel! During my time there I met so many people from different cultures, religions, countries, and backgrounds. It opened up my mind and my world and left me wanting more. I found out during my time there I could teach English in Korea and continue on this different life path. After that there was no turning back.

Teaching English was a challenge for me. I had majored in Graphic Design and Illustration and did not consider myself to be good with children. Good thing I love to learn! Every day brought new challenges in different forms and therefore everyday I had to choose to be brave, try again, and be ready for the next challenge!

3.- How do you like to interact with your followers? What is your favorite social network?

I have always been reluctant to Social Media but I reached a point where I felt I had something to share and decided to try something really new and outside my comfort zone!

My goal is to share beauty and inspiration with my followers and help them reflect and introspect along this journey of life alongside me. I also want to inspire people to be bold and brave. You can accomplish things you would never believe or imagine… so start now!

I like Instagram (find me @ariwanders) because it is like an art gallery that I can continually add to and adjust. I love/hate You Tube. Video is a completely new medium for me which makes it intimidating, fun and challenging!

I have recently branched out and started to share art through designing clothing. I am really excited about this new avenue! Feel free to check out what I have been working on at  Ari Wanders Storenvy

4.- You have decided to spread your passion for travel through a Youtube channel: Ari Wanders Do you like to make videos? Do you have a lot of fun? We see really good comments on your YouTube channel and Instagram. What experience have you gained with your channel?

Yes, to my own absolute shock I have decided to make videos about my life, travels, and ideas on my channel: Ari Wanders. I am an idea person. Most of the fun for me is planning and strategizing the video and then editing it. Filming is 50/50 I love capturing moments in creative ways so they can be treasured and shared, but when I am talking to the camera I still struggle with feeling awkward and uninteresting. So I keep working and improving. I get a little more confident each video and I also learn more and improve!

5.- What projects does Ari have in the medium and long term as a teacher and your Youtube channel?

I am so glad you asked this question! For the Winter and Spring I will be in the USA. I will be making videos about work and life in my home country and some videos about life and deep questions and ideas. I really hope for interaction so I can get to know you all more! Starting in Summer I will be traveling again and doing work and training on the mission field. This will jump start more travel vlogs! With these new vlogs I plan on not only showing the beauty of the countries but exploring culture, talking about issues, and meeting the people there.

6.- How important are social networks for a company, a brand or for a new talent anywhere in the world?

I am not an expert in this area. I think it depends on the target market. I think Social media is one of the first steps in leveling the playing field in the respect that every one has the chance to get their message out worldwide!

7.- How would you compare South Korea at an educational, social and economic level compared to the U.S.A ?

Ok I will do my best to try to answer this well and keep it short. Obviously it would take more than a paragraph to answer this completely.

One of the key ways to move a society forward is education and so when freedom and education finally became available to Korean society it became of utmost importance. Education is very important in both countries but in Korea there is an exaggerated value put on education. I was teaching children who were nearly bilingual by the age of eight in a language they never used outside the classroom. The children are under constant stress from testing to get into better schools. By High School the children are in class or extra curricular activities til 9 or ten o’ clock at night and then have homework to complete for hours afterwards. The pressure is reflected in the suicide rate. Korea has the highest rate of child suicide in the world. I think America has become more comfortable in the availability of jobs, opportunity and education and so there is not as much pressure in fact education may even be taken for granted in the USA.

Socially the countries are very different. America is known as the melting pot. There are different languages, foods, religions, ethnicities and cultures that have all collided, mixed and melded together into what the US is now. It is different than it was 10 years ago and will be different 10 years from now. Korea’s culture has a lot of influence from China and Japan then in the early 1900’s western influence emerged on the scene. Now it is a strange mix of two extremely different cultures which are emerging into a new unique social culture. Korea has been traumatized by imperialism and war. There are still some symptoms of this in social culture, but the future looks bright for this incredible country.

I do not know a ton about economics, but from my humble observations I would say that both countries have a strong vibrant economy developed through the ingenuity and hard work of their people. I think that there is more freedom in the American Economy to break from the norm and forge your own career path, but I don’t think Korea is far behind. The upcoming generation has so much talent and creativity and I can’t wait to see how they transform their country!

8.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

Excellent excellent question. I would agree women are still abused in most every society but to varying degrees. Women are and will continue to be innovators, influencers, homemakers, warriors, generation changers, and so much, much more. The difference is that now, and hopefully even more in the future, they will be recognized, respected, and remembered.

I have always been passionate about women’s freedom, rights, and worth. Becoming a teacher and seeing how girls (as all children) are taught by culture from such a young age how they are seen and valued by society, what they are worth and how they will be measured pushed this passion into full flame.

I don’t think there is a proper role for women but rather every woman has a role. Women being free to fully realize and fulfill their role… that is a bright future.

9.- Ari, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

In my life God has given me much love and much freedom. I am grateful for this and it motivates me to spread the love and freedom I have found to anyone I can.

10.- Finally, Ari, warm greetings from our country to yours.

Same greeting to you friend Jaime!
