1. Tell me about the city where you were born and raised. What do you like about your hometown?
I was born and raised in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, a city close to Rotterdam where I currently reside. Growing up in a village adjacent to a bustling metropolis provided a unique experience. I spent much of my free time exploring Rotterdam and attended school there.
2. What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I cherish spending time with my loved ones. I enjoy leisurely walks with my dog, Boaz, during family outings. With friends, I savor dining out or engaging in fun activities. These shared moments bring me immense joy and laughter. My family and friends form my unwavering support system.
3. International Model, Miss Universe Zuid-Holland 2025 Finalist. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageant contestant? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
The world of modeling and pageantry has always intrigued me. I participated in a few small shoots and shows for a clothing brand, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
I initially signed up for Miss-Beauty of Zuid-Holland last year, but I felt it wasn’t the right time. I dedicated the beginning of 2024 to personal growth and felt this year was the perfect opportunity. In November, I successfully auditioned for Miss Universe Zuid-Holland and am now thrilled to be a finalist.
I believe that a strong mindset and self-belief are crucial for achieving dreams and goals. Sometimes, taking a step back for self-reflection and creating new plans is essential. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and eager to share my journey with everyone.
4. What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Nadette in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I am driven by a desire to showcase the reality of my experiences. I want to share my learnings from this pageant while highlighting the hard work and, most importantly, the joyful moments. This pageant demands significant time and effort, but it’s a valuable opportunity for personal and professional development. Connecting with new people brings me immense joy.
5. What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model?
In my opinion, compassion for all living beings is paramount. Respect and kindness towards others are essential qualities.
6. Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I am aware of the impact I can have. I believe I can serve as an example that challenges traditional beauty standards of size and height. True beauty lies in self-acceptance and confidence, which will radiate to the world.
My role is significant because I understand the insecurities and dreams of younger girls who aspire to participate in pageants. By reflecting on my own experiences, I hope to connect with these girls and teenagers.
7. What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
I’ve always enjoyed being in front of the camera, starting from a young age when I would pose for my mother. Every time I step in front of the camera, I feel a surge of excitement. It’s an opportunity for creativity and careful consideration of the desired outcome.
The first day of the Miss Universe Zuid-Holland casting, when I was assigned number 89, was filled with joy. I felt a sense of anticipation, knowing that a new and exciting journey was about to begin.
8. What do you think about the power of social media today?
As an elementary school teacher, social media is a frequent topic of discussion. I emphasize both the positive and negative aspects to my students. In today’s world, social media is an integral part of life. It offers numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth and facilitates connections with new people. However, it’s crucial to be mindful of the potential downsides.
Consider carefully what you choose to share and with whom. Prioritize self-awareness and open communication with others if you encounter any challenges.
9. How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? What’s your favorite social media platform?
Instagram is my preferred social media platform, but I also utilize TikTok and Facebook. I strive to create a diverse content mix, including pictures, reels, and stories. I aim to share my experiences, learnings, and to actively engage with my followers by seeking their opinions and perspectives on various topics.
10. What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Give yourself time. It’s natural to want to achieve goals quickly, but sometimes it’s beneficial to step back and reassess. Discuss your aspirations with your family, as they provide a strong support system. Set small, achievable goals to gradually progress towards your larger objectives.
Parents may have their own ideals for their children, and time constraints can also be a factor. Open communication and patience are key. Sharing the joy and pride that their child’s success will bring can be instrumental in gaining their support.
11. What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
Stay true to yourself! Embrace your unique beauty ideals and perspectives on societal issues. This authenticity makes you an interesting individual and fosters valuable connections with other pageant contestants. You can learn and grow in a way that aligns with your personal values. There’s no need to change yourself to participate in a pageant.
12. Nadette, has being a model been easy for you? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
There have been challenges. When I was younger (I’m 27 now), there were stricter beauty standards regarding size and height, and I didn’t fit the mold. This led me to believe that modeling wasn’t a possibility for me. I struggled with these insecurities during my teenage years until I finally embraced my own unique appearance.
Self-belief is crucial, as it will radiate to the world. We live in a society that increasingly embraces diversity, and Miss Universe Zuid-Holland celebrates the unique beauty of all women. This inclusive approach is truly inspiring.
13. Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I participated in a theater class for almost three years when I was younger and enjoyed exploring different roles. While I appreciate the entertainment industry, it’s not my primary focus at this time.
14. Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
Women have historically been powerful forces for social and economic progress. In societies where they are abused, women can become powerful agents of change. Their voices and leadership are essential in challenging harmful traditions and advocating for equal rights and opportunities. Ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women is crucial for their empowerment and the overall development of society. The future of these societies depends on recognizing the invaluable contributions of women and creating a playing field where they can fully participate and thrive.
15. Nadette, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
I am grateful for all the opportunities I have been blessed with. I have a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. I can pursue my fitness goals, enjoy quality time with friends and family, and maintain good health.
My motivation stems from a sense of contentment. I appreciate the blessings in my life and recognize that not everyone has the same opportunities.
16. Nadette, do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I love to travel to immerse myself in different cultures, discover hidden gems, and connect with new people. I highly recommend visiting Mexico, Kenya and the Dominican Republic. Brazil is another destination on my travel bucket list.
In my own country, I highly recommend visiting Rotterdam, as it’s where I spend most of my time. You can explore historical monuments and experience a diverse range of cultures through the local cuisine and beverages. Despite being a bustling metropolis, Rotterdam offers numerous parks and natural areas for leisurely walks.
