In this exclusive interview with Perumira Magazine, Monika shares her thoughts on entering her first beauty pageant, the significance of representing Alicante, and how her Spanish heritage influences her approach to the competition. With her stunning looks and strong cultural background, Monika Sordo is set to be a rising star in the world of beauty pageants.
1. – Monika, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
-I was born in Madrid, which is the capital of Spain, for a while I lived until I was 16 in Palencia, which is in the north of Spain, and then I came to Alicante, and now I live in Villajoyosa, a town in the province of Alicante, well known for its colourful houses and its chocolate, among other things.
Here I like the tranquillity and going down to the beach when I want to relax looking at the sea.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
-My favourite hobby is walking on the beach or along the promenade looking at the sea. But I also like to go swimming, play volleyball with friends and read psychology books.
-When I go out with my friends it’s always a joyful time.
3.-International Model, Miss RNB Alicante Candidate. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
-To tell you the truth, I’ve only been in the modelling world for a few months heh heh.
-And what made me want to apply for the contest was to be able to do my bit for society and help to break taboos, I made the decision to apply two years ago when I was going through a bad mental process, I had depression and severe anxiety and I couldn’t find a way out until I saw the contest.
-I would love to be a recognised and influential woman, but I am not yet. I always like to give advice to my friends and help other people.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Monika in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
– I think I can stand out for my way of being, that I am a person who likes to help even if it is my rival, I like to face new challenges and I am a humble person with a good heart.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
– I think that in any contest or profession or event in front of the public, you have to be humble, charismatic, sociable and supportive. In short, you have to like to help, you have to be able to take criticism…
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
– One of my goals in this competition is to encourage girls to enter these kinds of events or want to be models and to stop them from being tall, which is still a disadvantage for some things and I would like to be able to help change that.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
– My feeling was horrible, I thought the worst: that I was going to fall or that I might sprain my foot and make a fool of myself in front of everyone.
For now this is my first time in a contest, the closest I have done was in 2016 to be a Dama in my village in Palencia.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
– I think it is a great window for people and brands to get to know you and contact you. But it also has disadvantages such as criticism, which some people don’t know how to deal with and it ends up affecting their mental health.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
-My favourite social media is Instagram, but I recognise that I have a lot to learn about social media, so I’ll take advice from anyone, hehe.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
– I would advise young people to live the experience, that at the end of this road called life is what we are going to take with us, and that we only regret what we don’t do or don’t face.
– And as advice to parents, I would tell them to let their children discover what they like and what they don’t like, in short, to never stop them.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
– I have learned that all that glitters is not gold, that behind everything there is hard work that is not seen and sometimes not valued and that seen from the outside it may seem an easy world, but the reality is that it is a world of sacrifices and demands, where you sometimes have to push your body to the limit.
12.- Monika, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles?How did you overcome obstacles?
– I have not had an easy life, although these words may sound cliché, the reality is that I have not been able to make my dreams come true because of my own measures and unfounded complexes due to the bullying I suffered as a child and the abuse I was subjected to.
I am overcoming all these obstacles day by day, when everything seems to be negative, I always try to see the positive side.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
– If I am offered one day to be one, I will not refuse, as I said before I always like to face new challenges, reinvent myself and have a general culture.
This summer I applied for a film casting for the first time, but no luck.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
– I think that although it is difficult to change the mentality that exists in some cultures and religions, which has been maintained for years, if women are united there will always come a day when they change the mentality, as in other places, and become more liberal. I will give Spain as an example, in a large part of the country you don’t see what you used to see a few years ago, which was male leadership over women.
15.- Monika, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
– I feel grateful every day for living, because I was born a warrior, with this I mean that I was a miracle baby, because my birth came with hydrocephalus and my mother was told a thousand things during pregnancy about what could happen, luckily at 4-5 years of age there was a miracle and I was discharged.
My greatest motivation is to be able to continue to improve every day.
