Some interviews speak of a career; others reveal the path a woman has taken to reinvent herself. The story of Teresa Maggie Cienfuegos belongs to the second kind. Born in Reynosa, Mexico, and now based in the United States, she has built a path where beauty, communication and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. Today she is an EVTV Correspondent, Nuestra Reina Latina Turismo 2024–2025, an international model, a professional makeup artist and the owner of her own beauty salon, proving that success is built by embracing new challenges.
In this exclusive conversation with Perumira, Teresa shares how a simple invitation on Instagram changed the course of her life and led her to discover a passion she never imagined: beauty pageants and modeling. She also talks about the discipline it takes to perform in front of the cameras, what television has taught her, and the responsibility of using her digital platforms to inspire, inform and make a positive impact.
Beyond the titles, we find a woman who is proud of her Mexican roots, passionate about fashion, deeply close to her family, and convinced that true transformation begins when a person dares to step out of her comfort zone and turns every opportunity into an experience of growth.

1.- Teresa, thank you so much for accepting our invitation. You were born in Mexico and now live in the USA. What have you always loved about the city where you were born and grew up? Which lifelong hobbies does Teresa still practice and can’t give up? What makes you smile or brings you great joy?
Thank you so much for the invitation to this interview. It’s a pleasure for me to answer your questions.
I was born in the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, but while I was still a baby we soon moved to the city of Valle Hermoso, very close to Reynosa.
I grew up there until I was 14, and what I liked most, and still miss to this day, is the way of life, which was much simpler. I could enjoy the simplest things, like playing soccer in the street, having coffee with fresh-off-the-comal tortillas on my front porch, or running in the wind in the rain. My favorite pastimes are spending time with my family, playing sports, learning about fashion, singing in a choir and, of course, Netflix.
And what makes me smile is the laughter of a child; it reminds me of my own childhood.
2.- Beautiful model, Nuestra Reina Latina Turismo 2024 – 2025, makeup artist, and owner of your own beauty salon: how did Teresa decide to take her first steps into the world of modeling and pageants? How does it feel to do what you love, what you’re passionate about? Is it easy?
The world of beauty pageants came to me through an invitation on Instagram,
And since I love a challenge, I decided to take part even without any experience, knowing that my priority would be to enjoy the opportunity and learn more about myself and this great world of beauty. There I discovered my passion and talent for modeling, entertainment, the runway and what it means to be a beauty queen. It’s a feeling of empowerment that I would love every woman to be able to experience.
Deciding to challenge yourself and do something new is not always easy, but if we jump into a new experience knowing that we will learn new things and become a better version of ourselves, the tension drops and we can enjoy the experience more.

3.- Teresa, are you aware of your growth as a person? As a model and beauty queen, will you become an influencer and an opinion leader every day, especially for younger people? How do you handle this? How do you like to interact with the followers who join you? What is your favorite social network?
It’s beautiful to be able to look at personal growth over the course of a lifetime, especially when there are events that mark a before and after, as Nuestra Reina Latina was for me. You really become a role model or “influencer,” and that gives you the opportunity to use social media and advertising platforms, not so much to lead as to inspire others, especially young people, to put our talents and resources toward helping our neighbors.
Nowadays social media has that power. Personally, I love Facebook for keeping in touch with family and friends, and Instagram for connecting with people around the world and interacting with my followers, but TikTok is without a doubt where I have the most fun and learn about what’s happening in the world.
But everything with organization and in moderation: social networks are very beneficial, but they can also consume a lot of our time.
4.- What do you think is Teresa’s distinctive, unique trademark in everything she does as a person and as a model?
Without a doubt, my authenticity and my love of fashion are my trademark, along with my Mexican influence and roots.
5.- What values, care and habits are important to have or adopt in order to be a model?
To be a model, you have to be aware that you need perseverance, to keep looking for doors even when some of them close; discipline, to take care of your organization and your life, both physically and in terms of what you eat; and also security and confidence in yourself. You’re not always going to be what designers are looking for, but that shouldn’t hurt your ego or self-esteem. The fashion world is like that: for one designer you may not be the right one, while for another you’re perfect.

6.- How did you feel the first time you modeled in front of a still camera and a video camera? What did you feel the first time in a beauty pageant?
The first time in front of a camera, I truly felt like a fish in water. I think some things come naturally, although of course I prepared and I keep preparing to perfect the art of modeling as well as photo posing.
As for my first time competing in a beauty pageant, my focus was always on learning and enjoying the experience, and that is exactly what helped me control my nerves and ease the stress that can come with a commitment as big as representing the Latino community in the United States.
7.- Teresa, you are a correspondent at EVTV, friends of the house. Have you ever thought about becoming an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry? Have you always been outgoing?
EVTV has been my school in the world of entertainment. Thanks to being crowned Reina Latina Turismo, the doors opened for me as a correspondent, and I realized how much I like entertainment. Although I have never thought about being an actress, I wouldn’t rule it out. I think life brings surprises and unexpected opportunities that we can take advantage of and turn into a new life experience.
I haven’t always been a very sociable or outgoing person, but working on my confidence and self-assurance has made me someone who is not afraid to express herself or to be in front of the cameras.
8.- Teresa, what do you think of the power that social media and new technologies have?
I find the reach that social media and technology have today incredible. Being able to learn from thousands of people around the world and connect with them is wonderful, especially when it comes to helping.
With everything that is happening in the world, I think it’s wonderful to be able to lend a hand to someone even if they are far away from you. Still, I also believe that as a society we lack a great deal of empathy for the people on the other side of a profile or social network, since there is a lot of cyberbullying, and sometimes we don’t measure the harm we can cause others with our words or messages. But I trust that together we can learn and improve so that we are part of the solution and not the problem.

9.- What would you say to parents who don’t support their children’s talent? And what advice would you give to young people who have talent and ability but don’t dare to take the next step?
Parents often do what they believe is best for their children based on what they themselves have lived through, and unfortunately it is not always what’s best for their children. I believe education is what has the power to transform and adopt new ways of thinking. I would recommend family counseling, to learn that children are free people who are taught and guided, but at a certain point must be allowed to fly so they can achieve true success, which is happiness, and only by doing what they are passionate about will they achieve it.
As for young people, I would tell them not to let anything or anyone keep them from finding what they are passionate about and what makes them happy, to chase their dreams and turn them into goals. We should always take into consideration the advice of parents or people who love us, but at the end of the day it’s important to get to know ourselves so we can accept ourselves and work on what we need to correct. And I would definitely tell them to draw close to God and develop a friendship with Him; in my case, He has been my guide and refuge in the most uncertain and difficult moments.
10.- What lesson does this whole experience in a world full of glamour, designs and beauty leave you with each day, as a person and as a human being?
Beauty pageants are indeed full of glamour, designs and beauty, but what is sought in a queen goes far beyond appearance. They look for a woman with integral beauty (beauty of the whole person), starting with her way of thinking, her achievements in life, her values, and what she can contribute as a role model and as a leader. That definitely teaches you to give more importance to what you carry inside and not to appearances.

11.- What is your opinion of women’s empowerment in recent years, with women reaching top positions all over the world? How can this situation be improved?
Women’s empowerment begins with valuing ourselves and taking up the space we deserve as women. Being able to turn our dreams into reality is something women have fought for throughout history, and today it is a reality. I would love for us as women to learn to support one another more; I think that way we could achieve everything we set out to do.
12.- Teresa, what motivates you, and why do you feel grateful every day?
I am a woman who constantly has new projects, goals and challenges. That keeps me learning, growing and eager to start each day with great enthusiasm.
I have thousands of things to be grateful for, but without a doubt my family, my friends, and my husband, who is my best friend and my support, are the reasons I thank God every day. They are my engine and what fills me with happiness.
13.- Do you like to travel? Which countries do you already know? Which other countries would you like to visit, and which places do you recommend visiting in Mexico, your home country, and in the USA?
I love traveling and exploring new cultures. I have had the pleasure of visiting Puerto Rico, Hawaii and, of course, Mexico, and I would love to visit some countries in Europe and Asia in the future.
I have also had the chance to visit some states here in the USA. Among my favorites are Arizona for its beautiful landscapes and nature, Florida for its gorgeous beaches, Washington DC for its culture and art, and of course New York, a city full of surprises and diversity, and don’t even get me started on Broadway, which is absolutely impressive.
And in my beloved Mexico, the “pueblos mágicos” (magical towns) are beautiful. My maternal grandparents are from Jalisco and Guanajuato, beautiful states full of culture and tradition. The beaches are gorgeous, like Los Cabos and Mazatlán, and of course Mexico City, which is enormous, full of art, culture, tradition and impeccable culinary diversity.

14.- Shall we play a little ping pong? I’ll say some words and you tell me the first thing that comes to mind, okay?
– Marriage – commitment
– Abortion – depriving someone of the gift of life
– Best movie – Matrix
– The worst – Sharknado
– Children – responsibility
– Dancing – enjoying
– Singing – disconnecting
– Machismo – lack of security in one’s manhood
– Politics – a double-edged sword
– Favorite food – Mexican, of course
– Temperament – the art of mastering one’s temper
– Percentage of craziness – 10 %
– Great love – God
15.- These lines are yours, Teresa. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your interest in getting to know me more deeply and for giving me the opportunity to talk about such important topics as empowerment, social media, the role we have toward young people and much more. I think it’s great that there are magazines like this one that become a platform for addressing issues that affect all of us. Thank you again, and I wish you all the success in the world.
Kisses, Teresa Cienfuegos
