Michelle is our Guest of Honor at Perumira’s 7th Anniversary.
Welcome Michelle Lim!!!
1.- Michelle, you were born in Singapore, What do you like about your hometown? What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?
I was born in Singapore but raised in The Netherlands for over 14 years. I consider The Netherlands to be my hometown instead. However, I appreciate Singapore as my country of origin. The food here is amazing and also you don’t need to worry about 4 seasons. Though I do miss it a little bit I must say.
My hobbies are dancing and recreational gymnastics for now. When I have more time I would love to explore painting more and other DIY crafts.
Seeing my 2 daughters grow up and going through different phases with them gives me the greatest amount of joy for sure. They are my world.
2.- Catwalk & Voice Coach, Why did you decide to embrace this profession? What do you like most about your profession?
My profession is actually a full-time marketing executive and babywearing fitting specialist. However, I chose to take on catwalk & voice coaching as an additional profession so that I can groom new batches of pageant queens to be more confident, to inspire them to work hard and so that they can shine bright when they walk up that grand stage. When I see the girls grow during their pageant journey is what makes me feel most satisfied.
3.- Model, Mrs Singapore Worldwide 2016 and you are currently Mrs World Peace Singapore 2021., When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized woman today?
As a young lady when I was still schooling I always wanted to take part in Miss Universe Singapore, but I never had the confidence nor the chance since I was working and studying at the same time. As years passed, I chanced upon Lumiere International Pageantry’s founder Justina. I decided to go for the interview and went on to participate in Mrs Singapore Worldwide 2016. It was such an amazing journey and very different from what I had envisioned.
I made new bonds and worked very hard to improve myself. Emerging as the winner was a shock to me because I felt that that was one of the biggest achievements I’ve had so far. I have done modeling on and off throughout school life and I still do now because I enjoy exploring new kinds of photoshoots.
Today, I have decided to take on the challenge as Mrs World Peace Singapore 2021 and to use that title to create a better world starting with myself. I realized that I have only grown stronger over the years and that if I put my mind to it I will achieve things greater than I sometimes dare dream.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Michelle in each activity carried out as a person?
I think my positive attitude and tenacity are definitely my trademark. Once I start something I will want to finish it well. Lead by example and never forget my moral values as I journey on.
5.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be a beauty queen?
A beautiful heart, because that’s what makes good things gravitate towards you.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for many girls who want to be beauty queen? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I was not aware until rather recently when more people reached out to me and told me that they were following my story. That they felt hope and courage when they read. I think social media should not be used to only paint pretty pictures, but it should have a big splash of raw reality in it too. So that other people know too, that they are not alone in whatever situation they are. That it is ok to reach out for help and support.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
Many people do not believe when I say I am a very shy person actually with low self-esteem. I felt very nervous and excited at the same time when I had my very shoot and beauty pageant. I kept thinking that maybe I wouldn’t make it, but there was also a side in me which believed in working hard for my goals.
8.- What do you think about the power of social networks today?
Like I mentioned above, I think social media should be used to reach out to people in the right way. Life isn’t always the pretty picture we tend to paint, but instead injecting some raw reality is healthier when we reach out to others on our platforms.
9.- Whats your favorite social network?
Don’t really have a favorite in particular. I use mostly Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. You can follow me on IG and TikTok @mixuewr if you would like to. I have a very quirky personality which sometimes shows up when I post things.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Never try, never know is a motto I live by many times. I would say if you have a passion for something go for it! Do not let anything hold you back or other people’s opinions. It’s your life, you direct it. If it doesn’t work out it’s fine, try something else when you are ready. For parents who do not support their children’s talents? I think we should encourage our children to never be afraid to try something new. Be it playing an instrument, video editing, drawing or anything else. Tell your children to do their best and give them encouragement when they’re about to give up.
11.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
Oh, I have dreamed of being an actress many times. Even now I still do! If I ever get a chance I would probably take it and give it my best shot.
12.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
Change is simply going to take time. That is why I said above that change starts with ourselves. If I want the world the change I need to start with myself and teach my daughters the same way of life. That’s the only way we can slowly change societal norms as they are today.
13.- Michelle, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
I am a simple person. My biggest source of motivation are my 2 daughters. They are the lights in my life and I would do anything with/for them. I feel grateful every morning that I get to live and breathe another day. That I get to love and hug the people I care for. That I get to do what I believe in.
14.- Michelle, What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from Singapore?
I used to be a cabin crew with Singapore Airlines and have visited numerous countries such as; Germany, South Korea, France, Italy, England, Turkey, Japan, New Zealand, China, Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Denmark, South Africa, USA, Australia and probably more. I would love to continue to explore Japan and I would want to visit South America as well. More of the Middle East and the rest of Africa. The world is vast and there is so much to learn.
Singapore is a tiny island but packed with quite a lot of fun stuff. If you are a first-time visitor definitely go and explore Sentosa. If you can get a real local Singaporean, get them to show you our coffee shops where they sell the most delicious food.
