Welcome Stephanie Hubert !!!

1.- Stephanie, you were born in Canada, What do you like about your hometown? What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?

I currently live in a small town named Saint-Lazare in the province of Quebec, in Canada. I am in a francophone family that always valued the importance of learning other languages, so they put me in a day care that was trilingual. I lost most of my Spanish through time, but I can say that I am grateful to be perfectly bilingual because of this.

My town has a country vibe to it, as its emblem is a horse. I am lucky to have a small farm in my backyard with 3 beautiful horses, 2 cats, and 2 dogs. Some of my hobbies include walking my dogs in the woods behind my house, watching movies, playing video games, reading, and playing board games with friends. One of the things that gives me a lot of joy is my family. I love to spend time with them over a cup of tea and some cards.

2.- Are you Filmmaker, professional in Arts, Literature, and Communications? Why did you decide to embrace this profession? What do you like most about your profession?

Growing up, I always loved watching films. I was always begging my parents and grandparents to watch them with me. This medium fascinated me, as it made me feel that I could do anything. I was especially mesmerized by the Harry Potter series. It gave me this magical feeling that is unexplainable, but it encouraged me to strive to give this similar kind of feeling to others.

Over time, I learned that I was also very good in the woodworking shop courses in school. This led my parents to hope for me to become an engineer, but I had this calling to film that I did not want to let go. So, I studied in Arts, Literature, and Communications at John Abbott College in which I learned various filmmaking and editing techniques. Right on my first class, I knew that this was my calling. This was reinforced when I watched my favourite movie for the first time, La La Land. It gave me the same magical feeling Harry Potter was giving me, which led me to know that these were the kinds of movies I want to make for the future. At John Abbott College, I helped others tell their stories through public speaking and through film. I was a public speaking assistant teacher for 2 years, and I was one of the co-founders of the John Abbott Student Film Festival. In my final year of study there, I created the documentary “We have our future”, and it awarded me with an “Excellence in Filmmaking award” certificate.

Now, I study at Carleton University in Film Studies and Communications studies in which I still continue to do short videos for LERRN (the local engagement refugee research network), and work on my documentary series “Vision of Representation”. The thing I love the most about the film medium is that it is limitless. Stories can be told of all kinds, and can help influence people in their own lives.

I believe that Film has the power to influence change, if the people that make those films break the boundaries of society to instil the idea into people people’s minds of a better and more inclusive world. As a filmmaker, this is what I set out to do.

3.-You have a wonderful project ‘Vision of Representation”, how the idea to give a chance to people, to the talents around the world?

Vision of Representation started with an idea that I had right before the pandemic hit. I wanted to interview people about a part of their story and what makes them unique. I wanted to feature their values, their beliefs, their hardships, and what inspires them. However, with quarantine, I could not film these in person. Over a lot of thought, I decided to do these interviews through ZOOM recording, and this became a blessing, because I was able to feature people from across Canada and the world. From a project that I initially thought would be only 20 episodes, it grew to become a series that so many people love and watch.

This incredible response came from people seeing the value in listening to other people’s stories as it gave them a positive view on people with different views and opinions. It made them understand other perspectives and embrace differences. It allowed people to break stereotypes and understand multiple kinds of adversities. I am so proud and happy to say that I have now released 19 episodes, and have filmed over 40.

I have empowered thousands of viewers, and my goal is to inspire more through releasing weekly episodes. My goal is now to reach 100 episodes, but who knows, I might create other seasons. It has been so empowering for me to create this platform for people to use their voices to talk about what matters to them, and I will keep pursuing my vision of having more representation of all kinds of people.

4.- Stephanie, your big goal is the Oscars!!!

My ultimate goal and dream is to win an Oscar in Directing. Unfortunately, only one women has ever had this privilege, and only 5 women have ever been nominated. I want to be apart of the women that grow this number, because young girls like me never had many role model to look up too in this industry. I want to be apart of the best, and inspire other women that they can achieve a successful career in this medium.

5.- Miss Galaxy Vaudreuil 2021, Miss Teen Canada RU 2018, Miss Teen Québec 2016  When do you decide to take your first steps in beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized woman today?

I decided to compete for the first time in the Miss Teen Quebec pageant in 2016, because my therapist suggested me to do something new. I was starting to feel better with my mental health, and it was the time for me to gain confidence. The Miss Quebec association is a pageant that only judges you on components related to personality. Through this journey I got to learn a lot about myself and what I believed in. I ended up winning this pageant, and was able to raise 5000$ for Operation Enfant Soleil during my reign.

I still implicate myself very often with this organisation as I love its values. 2 years later, I met empowering women from across Canada at Miss Teen Canada 2018, in which I was the first runner up. This gave me the opportunity to compete internationally at Miss Teen Continents 2018 in Las Vegas.

Now, I am part of the top 7 of Miss Earth Canada 2020, and I am having my eyes set on Miss Galaxy Canada. Being a women in this industry is very inspiring as I am so empowered by the women alongside me, which always encourage me to be a better version of myself.

6.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Stephanie in each activity carried out as a person?

The thing that makes me unique is my bubbly personality, my ambition, and my contagious smile. I strive to be authentic in who I am and embrace myself, so that I can be a role model to others. Something I carry with me is to always try to stay positive, and be kind to others.

7.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an beauty queen?

I think the one thing a titleholder needs is to be a listener. She needs to be able to empathize and listen to what others have to say so that she can help them and have an open mind to all. By listening, she can learn from others to become a better version of herself, and empower others by hearing them out which makes them feel important.

8.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for many girls who want to be beauty queen? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?

I consider myself to be an inspirational women, but I do not need to feel validated by it. My goal is to empower and motivate myself, which will automatically help and inspire others.

Confidence is something people love to look up to, so all I have to do is maintain it to continue to motivate others. For me, it’s important to tell my story so that young girls and teenagers, so that they know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel when things get hard.

If I can inspire or empower one person, I think I did my job.

9.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?

The first time I modelled was a very uncomfortable situation for me, because I am so used to be the person behind the camera. However, the pictures of my first photoshoot ended up being so beautiful, which helped me feel better in my skin.

Now, I know more how to move my body and advantage myself. Competing in my first pageant was so inspiring for me as I was able to use my voice on stage for the first time and realize my potential.

10.- What do you think about the power of social networks today?

Social media has the power to influence others. It’s not for nothing that we call people “influencers”. The algorithms behind social media platforms create some form of profile about you to be able to sell you products and ideas that you might like to amplify.

Every time you share something, these platforms get to know a little more about you, and can even send this information to other companies to take advantage of you. There has been a research in the United States that proves that Facebook might have had a part in the way the last American elections went due to widespread of various kinds of information and fake news.

This means that we need to be aware of what we put out on social media. We need to be cautious in what we consume and take this information with a grain of salt so that it does not influence our way of thinking.

However, since social media has the power to influence, it is important as consumers and content creators to use these platforms in a positive light, and be kind to others. I challenge myself everyday to write genuine positive comments on each post that makes me smile, in order to encourage positive content.

11.- Whats your favorite social network?

My favourite social media would need to be Youtube as it is such a constructive and informative way to gain information from people. Since, I love videos, this is a great way to express myself and showcase my work, and also encourage my peers in their projects.

12.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?

Something I learned recently is that the only true barrier is yourself. I know that the first step is always very difficult, but trying new things will help you so much in seeing your value, and living a fulfilling life.

As someone that had parents that wanted me to go in a “safer” field of study, I had to learn to listen to myself and do what I love, because that is the way that I knew I could make my life a happier place. Always strive for your goals TODAY, because you never know what tomorrow will hold. Do not simply be the passenger on life, be the driver, and take control of your life.

13.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?

The more we talk about these stories, the more chances we will get to influence a change. The fight for any kinds of change, such as the fight for women or for race, is not a finish line, but a journey. It is not something that can be solved today, and probably not tomorrow. The date is impossible to know, but we cannot simply wait for it. Every story that is told, is one more person that might understand and change their mindset. If I could tell something to the women that are facing adversity, I would tell them to share the discrimination they face to empower others to do the same.

14.- Stephanie, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?

Every night when I go to bed, I tell myself what I am grateful for. I think about my family, my loved ones, my pets, and everything that I have that I might take for granted sometimes. This motivates me because it helps me have a positive view on life. I am motivated by my ambition and my will to always be proud of myself.

15.- Stephanie What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from Canada?

I have visited many countries in my life. I believe traveling is very important to meet all sorts of different people and stories. In my teenage years, my family and I have hosted an exchange student from an other country for a whole year. We have done this for 7 years. We did this to open our minds up to another culture and also teach ours. We have hosted students from Austria, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, and Germany. These girls have added so much value into my life and I am so grateful to ave been able to visit a few of them. A place I would recommend people to visit in Canada would be in Saguenay (Quebec). This place is five hours north of Montreal and has a very special place in my heart as it is where my grandparents live, and where my mother grew up. This place has some of the most beautiful landscapes with large forests, mountains, moose, whales, and all kinds of Canadian wildlife. Not to mention that the food is so delicious and different from the rest of Canada.
