1.- Soraya, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. My mum is Spanish and my dad is Colombian!
When I say I’m from Madrid, everyone tells me they mostly just visited the coast when travelling to Spain, and it’s such a shame. Madrid is such a beautiful and vibrant city, full of history that not many tourists get to experience.
My favorite parts of Madrid are:
The Debod Temple – Egyptian temple that the Egyptian government donated to Spain in 1968 as a sign of gratitude for their participation in the International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia. It was dismantled, transported, and rebuilt in the Parque de la Montaña in 1970–1972.
Meson de la Tortilla – In the Plaza Mayor of Madrid, there are lots of little restaurants that specializes in typical Spanish food (Spanish Omelette, Croquetas, etc). The best part is not just enjoying the incredible food with a jar of Sangria, but it’s that the restaurants are located inside old caves used during the Spanish civil war to move around the city without being detected by the enemies.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
Pageants are no doubt one of my hobbies, but also the gym. I absolutely love the endorphins that get released when doing exercise. You will find me every morning at the gym lifting weights, walking on the treadmill or practicing my pageant walk in the studio.
Something that makes me laugh or bring me joy is my friends and family. I love being goofy when I am around them, enjoying their company and having the bes time.
3.- International Model, Ms Great Britain 2024 Finalist, International Ms UK 2022-2023, UK’s National Ms 2021-2022. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to model and to be part of pageantry. However, due to my short height (5 foot – 150cm), I was not allowed to participate in pageants and couldn’t book any modeling jobs.
Fast forward 30 years, and the world of pageantry and modeling has changed to be more inclusive, which has given me the opportunity to finally chase those dreams and make them a reality.
The pandemic made me realize that we should not give up on our dreams, and that we should chase them fearlessly. So at the end of 2020 I decided to enter my very first pageant. It was the best thing that could have happened to me!
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Soraya in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
I believe it’s authenticity. I embrace my uniqueness and encourage others to do the same, challenging conventional beauty standards. As a Spanish expatriate living in the UK, I bring a multicultural perspective to the role. This perspective promotes diversity and cultural understanding within the beauty and modeling industries.
I also believe I demosntrate resilience in navigating challenges and setbacks in my life. My leadership as a beauty queen extends beyond appearances, focusing on meaningful contributions to social causes while inspiring and uplifting women everywhere.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
The main virtue that any woman must have to be an international model is confidence. Confidence is the foundation of all the other qualities needed in the modeling industry. It enables a model to walk the runway with poise, handle the pressures of the industry with resilience, and present herself authentically in front of the camera.
With confidence, a model can adapt to various roles and environments, make a lasting impression on clients and designers, and inspire others by embracing her unique beauty and strengths. Confidence also empowers a model to stay true to herself, maintaining integrity and professionalism while navigating the challenges and opportunities of an international modeling career.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I literally had no idea! This is absolutely incredible. Being a role model is of the upmost importance to me. I believe that as a role model, I have the power to inspire and empower young girls to pursue their dreams and ambitions. By demonstrating that it is possible to achieve success through hard work, determination, and authenticity, I can help them realize their potential and encourage them to strive for their goals.
In today’s world, young people are exposed to various influences, not all of which are positive. As a role model, I aim to provide a positive example of confidence, kindness, and resilience. By leading by example, I hope to guide them toward making positive choices and developing a strong sense of self-worth.
Ultimately, the impact I have on the next generation is a significant part of my legacy. Knowing that I have played a role in shaping the lives of young girls and teenagers, helping them become confident and empowered individuals, is a very rewarding and fulfilling aspect of my journey.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
It was the best feeling in the world. I believe I was born to be in front of a camera and I absolutely transform when the camera is on. It’s fun and challenging at the same time, which is the very best combo.
The first time I stepped on a pageant stage I was very nervous. I was fulfilling a dreams that had been in the works for 30 years. Once I was on that stage, all nerves left the building and I just felt incredible. Hearing the audience cheering really gave me a boost of confidence, and I had the absolute best time on that stage.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
Social media is a powerful tool that has reshaped the way we communicate, learn, and engage with the world. We need to make sure we use it responsibly and thoughtfully so it can lead to positive outcomes and meaningful connections.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
I absolutely love Instagram and Tiktok. I am more active on social media and love to interact with people through my comments or private messages. You bet that if you send me a message I will be 100% answering you, so don’t be afraid to send message to people you look up to.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Believe in Yourself: Confidence is key. Recognize and embrace your talents. Understand that everyone starts somewhere, and believing in your abilities is the first step toward success.
Take Small Steps: You don’t have to make huge leaps right away. Start with small, manageable steps that move you toward your goals. Each small success will build your confidence and bring you closer to where you want to be.
Seek Support and Mentorship: Surround yourself with supportive people who believe in you and your talent.
Learn and Improve: Take classes, practice regularly, and stay open to feedback. The more you learn and grow, the more confident you’ll become in taking bigger steps.
Embrace Failure as Part of the Journey: Understand that setbacks and failures are part of the journey to success. Each challenge you overcome will make you stronger and more resilient. Don’t let fear of failure hold you back.
Take the Leap: Ultimately, taking the next step requires courage. Remember that the biggest regrets often come from the chances we didn’t take. Step out of your comfort zone and seize the opportunities that come your way.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
To always be yourself. Pretending to be someone you are not won’t help you in any way and it will translate to your work as a model or when you are in that pageant stage and interview.
12.- Soraya, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
Not at all! As I said before, my height has been one of my biggest challenges. If a door closes, another will open and if not, just push it open and create your own opportunities.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
This is the ultimate dream! I thought this was going to be my career path, I even thought of going to study in New York City at the Actors Studio Academy. However, things happened that didn’t allow me to do it. Instead, I opened my youtube channel that let me create content, even if it was not in proper movies or TV.
I would love to work on the entertainment industry, so if anyone reading has an opportunity, please get in touch!
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I believe that education is paramount. As more girls receive education, they become empowered to assert their rights and contribute meaningfully to society. Legal reforms will be crucial, with stronger enforcement of laws against gender-based violence and workplace discrimination. Economic participation is another vital area; as more women join the workforce, their economic independence will lead to broader societal changes, allowing them greater decision-making power and community contribution. Increased representation in political and leadership roles will also be essential, as it will help address gender-specific issues more effectively and provide role models for younger generations. We will also need support systems from international organizations and local NGOs. They will play a significant role in advancing women’s rights and offering resources to those in abusive situations.
I believe the future role of women in these societies will be shaped by ongoing efforts in education, legal reforms, economic empowerment, and leadership representation, gradually fostering more equitable and supportive environments for women globally.
15.- Soraya, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation comes from the belief in the power of resilience and the limitless potential of every individual, especially women. I am driven by the opportunity to inspire others to embrace their unique paths, defy societal expectations, and pursue their dreams fearlessly.
Every day, I am grateful for the ability to connect with and uplift others through my platform. I cherish the moments where I can advocate for inclusivity, promote self-acceptance, and empower women to recognize their worth beyond superficial standards. Ultimately, my motivation lies in the belief that through authenticity, empathy, and perseverance, we can create a world where everyone feels valued, empowered, and capable of achieving their aspirations.
16.- Soraya, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I love traveling! I have lived in Madrid, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and now the UK. I have traveled to more than 15 countries, and have so many in my bucket list.
One country that I have to visit is Colombia. It’s my dad’s country and I have never been, can you believe it!!!! So please, take me to Colombiaaaaaaa.
