Hannah gives me a wonderful interview as an ambassador for Canadian women, for women entrepreneurs.
1.- Hannah, you were born in Canada, What do you like about your hometown? What are your hobbies? What makes you laugh a lot or does it give you a lot of joy?
Yes! I live in Westmount, on the island of Montreal. What I like most about my hometown is the cultural diversity and everything it has to offer. There are so many activities that you can do and places where you can go, you will never get bored. We have some amazing food and a fun night life as well. Some of my hobbies include walking my dog around the mountain, doing sports, and going out to enjoy my beautiful city.
I am also passionate about my field of study in school. I am currently doing a specialization in psychology at Concordia University. I really love helping people out, connecting with them, and hearing their stories. What brings me the most joy is spending time with friends and family.
2.- Cheerleader, Why did you decide to embrace this profession? What do you like most about your profession?
I decided to join cheerleading to challenge myself and fulfill my goals of getting a world championship’s title. I joined gymnastics when I was 5 years old where I developed a passion for the sport and did it for 12 years. I won the title of Quebec Champion in my age division and level as well as being part of the Quebec team at the Eastern Canadian Championships. I am also a gymnastics coach because I want to share my love for this sport with the younger athletes.
Cheerleading is a sport that I have always wanted to try when I was ready to make the switch from gymnastics. What I like most is performing as a team and working together to produce the best routine in front of a crowd. I love how the sport incorporates elements of gymnastics, stunting, and dance performed with a high amount of energy. This sport has allowed me to travel to Disney World in Orlando, Florida four times to compete at the world championships where my team’s best placement was 4th place. I am currently taking a break but I cannot wait to get back on the floor and practice again.
3.- Model, Miss Canada Finalist 2020, When do you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieving your dreams, your passions and being a recognized woman today?
I decided to join the Miss Quebec 2019 pageant when I saw a booth at a cheerleading competition. I had no idea that pageants existed where I lived and no idea what I was getting myself into. I learned that this organization is not at all about outer beauty but about personality and the beauty within a person. I was interested in trying something new so I signed up for fun and made it all the way to top 5 in Quebec. This led me to becoming a finalist at Miss Canada 2020.
I feel extremely grateful to have lived through these experiences. I have met so many amazing people and gained pageant sisters. I have learned so much which has contributed to my personal growth. I am very thankful to all those who have supported me throughout this journey.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Hannah in each activity carried out as a person?
I like to make the best out of every moment and live life to its fullest. I am open minded and like to try new things. I am also very observant in each situation and when meeting people, I like to connect with them and listen to their stories.
5.- What is the main virtue that any woman must have to be a beauty queen?
To me, every woman is already a beauty queen. I think the main virtue that any woman must have is to just be yourself and find the confidence within you. You must continuously believe in yourself, strive to be the best version of you, and be willing to listen and learn from each experience.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for many girls who want to be beauty queen? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
I always try to be a positive example that girls can look up to, not only in pageants, but also in sports and everyday life. I have become involved with the Miss Quebec organization as a judge at several beach day activities and I wanted to present myself as a good role model for all the participants. I think it is important to inspire others in the way you can in order to show them that when you set your mind to something, you can achieve anything you desire.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
To be honest, the first time I did a photoshoot, which was for Miss Quebec, I felt very stiff and did not know what to do. Every time I step in front of a camera now, I become more comfortable than the last time and I try to have fun.
As for pageants, it comes with many emotions and at my first one, I mainly felt excited and a little nervous. All the girls were extremely supportive of each other and encouraged one another. I also felt proud to be representing an organization that promotes the inner beauty of girls.
8.- What do you think about the power of social networks today?
Social networks have a great impact on society today in both positive and negative ways. There is a huge power over influence and we need to be mindful when we use these platforms. I think it’s amazing how we are easily able to connect with other people across the world. It has created so many opportunities and a way to spread messages worldwide.
9.- What’s your favorite social network?
My favourite social network would have to be Instagram because I like how a story can be told through visual pictures and videos. I believe that a picture is worth a thousand words and this platform is also a great way to share what you are up to in your life.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
I would advise young people to not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and to do things for yourself. Just go for it because it is better to try then fail than to not try at all. If you sit back and don’t try, you’ll never know what opportunities you will miss out on. Life is about trial and error and with those errors, we can learn and improve, and keep trying again until we succeed.
My parents’ support is one of the biggest reasons why I could accomplish what I have done and I am forever thankful for that. I would advise parents who do not support their children’s talents to open their mind and give your child a chance. I think all a parent wants is for their child to be happy with whatever they decide to do in life.
11.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
Yes, I do like the entertainment industry. When I was in elementary school, I participated in three school plays. I enjoyed it and have thought of furthering myself to becoming an actress but I have not put in the effort to make it happen. It is something that I would be willing to try.
12.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
As a woman, I can say that there have already been improvements worldwide although there is still room for so much more. It is not enough and the abuse has to stop immediately. We must not be afraid to voice our opinions and share our stories to inform and educate all people and the younger generations. We must all come together to empower women even more and continue to create a positive change around the world.
13.- Hannah, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation is many things; knowing that I have loving and supportive family and friends, helping others and making a difference in their lives, my desire to do my best every day, to make others proud, all the amazing people I get to meet and cross paths with, the things that make me passionate, to lessons I get to learn, to be hopeful about the future, and much more. Every day, I feel grateful for the amazing life that I live as well as everyone and everything that makes it possible.
14.- Hannah, What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from Canada?
I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Disney World in Florida five times for competitions in cheerleading and gymnastics. I have also gone on vacation to the Dominican Republic.
There are so many countries that I would like to travel to. I love to expose myself to different cultures and learn as much as I can about them. One of my goals is to visit my three countries of origin, the Philippines, Spain, and Norway to discover my roots.
Canada has so much to offer and I would also love to explore each province and territories. Every summer, I go on road trips to different cities because what’s a better way to discover my own home and all the beautiful things we have here, just a few hours away from where I live. I would of course recommend visiting Montreal!
