1.- Jaimerlee, tell me about the city where you were born and raised. ,What do you like about your hometown?
I was raised in San Nicolas, a place better known as the Sunrise City and affectionately called Chocolate City, rich with Afro-Caribbean heritage and vibrant culture. This community has always been the arts and culture hub of Aruba and is the birthplace of our colorful Carnival celebrations. San Nicolas has a unique history, with many Afro-Caribbean people migrating here in the late 1920s to work at the Lago Oil refinery, which was the island’s economic heart before tourism became mainstream.
One of the most striking features of San Nicolas today is a collection of dozens of stunning murals, commissioned by both local and international artists, each telling a story about our heritage and resilience. It’s a beautiful reflection of our creative spirit.
What I love most about San Nicolas is the deep sense of unity we share. ‘We is we,’ is a phrase that we often use in San Nicolas it has come to mean family, comfort, and community to me. This spirit of togetherness has shaped me; it’s given me an unwavering pride and love for my hometown. My mother and her siblings grew up in the ‘God is Love’ house, a well-known landmark in the community. From pre-K through high school, I walked the same streets and hallways, surrounded by resilient and hopeful dreamers.
San Nicolas will always be more than a hometown; it’s a legacy, the heartbeat of my heritage, the foundation of who I am, and a place I’m proud to call home.
2.- What are your hobbies? what makes you laugh a lot or gives you joy?
I consider myself a multi-faceted person with a wide range of interests, which has led to a bit of hobby hoarding! In my free time, I enjoy painting, sketching, sewing, and working out—whether it’s at the gym, doing Pilates, running, or practicing yoga. I also love writing and have a mindset of “I can do that” or “I can make that,” which often leads me down a hyper-focused rabbit hole of learning and reading. Ultimately, I just love creating, and that’s what sums up my hobbies.
3.-International Model, Miss Eco Aruba International 2024. When did you decide to take your first steps as a model and beauty pageants? What feeling do you have achieved your dreams, your passions and being a recognized influencer woman today?
Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a model, and I often heard encouragement from family and friends. However, I was very shy and wanted this decision to be my own, not just something that others suggested. It was important for me that my journey meant something personal.
As I matured, I became more familiar with the world of pageantry and the influential women who participate in these experiences. At 15, I decided I wanted to be one of those influential women. I realized that stepping out of my comfort zone would help me overcome my shyness and set me on the path to becoming the woman I knew I was destined to be.
When the first Miss Teen Aruba pageant ,now known as Miss Youth Aruba, was announced in 2016, I was thrilled. I wanted to be the first Miss Teen San Nicolas and made it my mission to have San Nicolas take home the first crown. This became a cause that was bigger than myself.
While I always considered myself a dedicated young woman, this experience challenged my self-image. I learned that everything I believed about myself was true, except for one thing: I could talk your ear off! I never met a fun fact I didn’t love to share, so I wasn’t shy—I just let others overshadow me and was hesitant to speak up. My mother always believed in me no matter what, and she introduced me to Endy Croes from N-Designz. Endy started as my pageant coach and became a mentor and confidant who helped me embrace my true self. Many people would say I needed to be «more this, more that,» but Endy never let me feel like I was lacking. Instead, he showed me how to turn my unique qualities into strengths. That self-awareness was crucial in ultimately winning my first pageant and becoming Miss Teen Aruba 2016.
I wouldn’t say I have fully achieved my dreams yet; every accomplishment and setback is part of a bigger picture. I continued this approach into my adult pageant career, with Endy and Vicky Zimmerman by my side. This support ultimately led to a top 10 placement for Aruba at the Miss Eco International pageant in Egypt. Each experience has taught me valuable lessons, granting me confidence, wisdom, and direction as I move forward in my journey.
4.- What do you think is the distinctive, unique stamp of Jaimerlee in each activity carried out as a beauty queen and model?
My unique stamp as a beauty queen and model really comes from my personality and authenticity. I believe being true to myself helps me connect with people, whether I’m on stage, chatting with supporters, or at community events.
As Miss Eco Aruba, I focus on being relatable and approachable, creating space for genuine conversations. I love representing my community by showcasing our culture and values, making sure my platform reflects both my journey and the stories of those around me.
I want my authenticity to shine in everything I do, from modeling to advocacy. Ultimately, I hope my legacy shows that true beauty is all about embracing who you are and making a positive impact on others.
5.- Whats is the main virtue that any woman must have to be an internacional model?
I think the main virtue any woman needs to be an international model is resilience. The modeling industry can be tough, with constant challenges and rejections. Being able to bounce back and stay positive is crucial.
Resilience allows you to learn from experiences, adapt, and keep moving forward, no matter what obstacles come your way. It’s not just about physical beauty; it’s about having the strength and determination to chase your dreams and embrace your unique journey.
6.- Are you aware of being an influential woman for thousands of girls who want to be models? How important is it to you to be an idol for many girls and teenagers?
Absolutely! I’m aware I can inspire a lot of girls and teenagers who dream of being models, and that means the world to me. I try to be approachable and keep it real by being vulnerable and authentic. It’s important for others to see that we all go through similar struggles and that they’re not alone.
Being a role model lets me share my journey, including the ups and downs, and shows that with hard work and determination, dreams really can come true. I want to encourage others to embrace who they are and believe in themselves. Ultimately, I just hope to make a positive impact and be someone they can look up to.
7.- What was your feeling the first time you modeled in front of a video camera? What did you feel the first time at a beauty pageant?
For someone who was considered shy, it was such a rush! In a good scary way. I love being on stage, and I’m not shy to admit that, even though I enjoy being behind the camera too. If you saw my childhood pictures, you’d think the opposite. I can count on one hand how many times my mom caught a picture of me actually smiling!
It was definitely a new experience, so I wouldn’t say I felt completely confident right away. But over time, I learned to channel that rush of nerves and thoughts into energy instead of letting it fuel my anxiety. It’s all about growing into the moment.
8.- What do you think about the power of social media today?
I see social media as a game-changer. When used the right way social media can be a very powerful tool, it connects us globally and opens up so much information, making us more aware of what’s going on in the world. Personally, I’ve seen it help me connect with amazing people and build a supportive community around shared interests. It’s incredible how it can create friendships and networks we might not have found otherwise.
9.- How do you like to interact with your followers on social media? Whats your favorite social media?
I mostly use Instagram, where I love making content and sharing my life through stories. Right now, I’m also thinking about restarting my YouTube channel. I’ve been brainstorming how to make it super personal. ike we’re just chatting over coffee or FaceTiming. I’m putting some thought into it maybe even overthinking it. I want to make it feel genuine and relatable.
10.- What would you advise young people who have talent but do not dare to take the next step? What would you advise parents who do not support their children’s talents?
Do it scared. Fear often comes from a place of uncertainty, but taking that first step is what counts—whether it’s signing up for a new opportunity or getting what you need to start. As you continue to improve yourself on your journey the confidence will follow. For me commiting to my dreams in a way forced me to continue to learn and improve and become better in whatever I was commiting to giving me the confidence to keep dreaming bigger and aiming for more.
For parents who have a different view on their kids’ potential or future, I hope they come to recognize that their children have unique dreams and abilities. Just because they might not see the full picture doesn’t mean it’s not there. My mom always believed in me and supported me, even when our perspectives on my path didn’t quite align. But as I keep moving forward, she’s starting to see that I’m becoming who I’m meant to be. It’s a long journey, so keep pushing.
11.- What important lessons have you learned from the world of fashion and beauty pageants?
The world of fashion and beauty pageants has taught me a lot about resilience and self-expression. One key lesson is the importance of authenticity, being true to yourself is what really connects you with others. I’ve learned that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, whether it’s facing tough competition or stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ve also realized how vital it is to support and uplift one another in this industry. Collaboration over competition can lead to amazing experiences and friendships. Overall, it’s about embracing who you are and using your platform to inspire others.
12.- Jaimerlee, being a model for you has been easy? Were there obstacles? How did you overcome obstacles?
It definitely hasn’t been a journey without it’s obsacles. I’ve faced a lot of struggles, particularly with body image. As I got older, my weight fluctuated, and there were times when I felt too skinny or when I gained weight—which is a natural part of a woman’s journey—and I felt like I didn’t fit into the industry standards. But I’ve always made it a priority to focus on my mental health throughout my journey. Feeling confident in myself is crucial, as it allows me to give my all in everything I do. I’ve learned to embrace my uniqueness and surround myself with positive influences, which has helped me navigate obstacles with love rather than negativity.
13.- Have you thought about being an actress? Do you like the entertainment industry?
I definitely love the entertainment industry! I’ve always wanted to explore acting, but it’s something I still need to work on because, unfortunately, my face has subtitles and tends to give away my thoughts too easily.
Right now, I’m focused on the music side of things. I really enjoy helping talents with their projects and improving my skills in creative direction, image management, and marketing. While I wasn’t blessed with singing talent, I still get to tap into my creativity and be part of the artists’ journeys.
14.- Worldwide, women have acquired a greater role even though there are societies where they are still abused. What is your opinion of the role of women in the future in these societies?
I believe the future holds great promise for women everywhere, even in societies where they currently face abuse and inequality. As more women continue to rise up and advocate for their rights, we’re witnessing a shift in perception and awareness. Education and empowerment are crucial in these efforts; by providing women with the tools and knowledge they need, we can help them reclaim their voices and rights. It’s also super important for communities to back these changes and create safe spaces where women can thrive. The journey isn’t always easy, but I’m hopeful that with determination and support, women will take on even bigger roles in shaping a better future for themselves and the generations to come.
15.- Jaimerlee, what is your motivation and what do you feel grateful for every day?
My motivation really comes from wanting to inspire others and show them that chasing your dreams is possible, no matter what gets in the way. I’m super grateful for my family, especially my mom, who has always believed in me—even when I had my doubts. My friends and the community around me are also a huge support system; they keep me grounded and motivated. Every day, I try to remind myself to appreciate the opportunities I have, the lessons I’ve learned, and the journey I’m on. For me, it’s all about growth and connection!
16.- Jaimerlee, Do you like to travel? What countries do you know? What other countries would you like to know and which places do you recommend to visit from your country?
I absolutely love to travel! I’ve been to a bunch of places like Belize, Costa Rica, Curacao, the U.S., Egypt, Norway, Suriname, England, Macedonia, Germany, and Panama. When I was younger, we did a lot of cruises, which I adored! I always felt like I was living in «The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.» Those trips hold some of my best memories.
In the future, I’d really love to check out Bali, Lake Como in Italy, Albania, and Croatia.
As for recommendations, our beaches are a must—they’re world-renowned! You can’t miss Arikok National Park; it’s basically our national treasure. And definitely take some time to explore San Nicolas. Make sure to visit the Museum of Industry and the Community Museum of San Nicolas. They offer amazing insights into our culture and history that often fly under the radar for tourists, but they have so much to share!
